you beat me to it, I too was going to start a thread after I read Craigy's comment

Craig must back this statement up with consequences, you can not come out and say that we have players that do not want the ball and continue to play those players

I was always coached to win my own footy and whether your an inside or outside player there comes a time when it is your turn to go and win your own footy

yeah we all know we are in deep sh*t and its largely of our own making but rather than keep dwelling on the negatives what does he need to do to keep his job.

I still think with abit of tweaking NC could still be a quality coach provided he can change. A few things I would like to see him change if he wants to keep his job:

-Forget the unconventional crap and start getting back to the conventionals. We know you don't like trading but premiership teams have been built with quality trading. Learn to swallow your pride and take a step back to take a few steps forward. Building a premiership side without at least a few years of top draft picks (ie bottoming out) is near on impossible, unless you can get some quality Father/son picks.

-Ease up at training. I dont believe there isn't a link between our training regime and the number of serious injuries we have suffered over the last 4-5 years.

-Wave goodbye to C Walsh and the bikes. Hasn't worked.

-Play players in their natural positions, especially youngsters. Not much point bringing in a kid who has played most of his junior football as a forward and then expect to adapt to the half back flank.

Depends on the player and the nature of playing HBF.

Roo, Goody, Macca all played alot of early footy off the HBF and I doubt any of them spent a great deal of time there as a junior. (can anyone confirm).

P Dange - I'd play off the HBF and PLAY him there. When I say that - not as a forward pushing back to the HBF.

Which leads us to Walker - I wouldn't play him at the HBF. If we did though PLAY him there and not drifting back filling up space. Give him a man/role and tell him to run forward. However, most of those things don't suit his strengths so he is one player I wouldn't do it with.

Also - junior players I'd give more slack in not 'winning their own ball'. However I'd heavily reward those that do! (aka VB in his first few seasons).

I also think the 'not going and getting the ball' is as much to do with, and I believe Craigy may have been hinting at this, confusion over who SHOULD go get the ball in the situations. I said a few weeks ago I believe the zone/structures at the contest are confusing players in who SHOULD be the one contesting/winning the ball. If that is the case it just goes to show there is possibly too much focus on management and not enough focus on leadership in how we expect our guys to play footy atm.

Colin Powell once said, '"Leadership is the art of accomplishing more than the science of management says is possible."

When I think of our club at the moment I 'feel' (obviously I don't KNOW) we are focussing more on the management and not enough on the leadership.

In trying to find the above quote I also found a few others that might be worth some consideration:

"But just as they did in Philadelphia when they were writing the constitution, sooner or later, you've got to compromise. You've got to start making the compromises that arrive at a consensus and move the country forward. "

"Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate and doubt, to offer a solution everybody can understand. "

"No battle plan survives contact with the enemy. "

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and persistence. "

That'll do for now :) Obviously not going to solve our problems but the leadership/management comparision always appealed to me and there are some points to ponder there. End of the day we need some ACTION down at the club to change our situation.

Back on topic, kids....

One thing I appreciated about Craig as coach in the early days of his tenure was his unwillingness to throw his players under the bus. The wins were down to the good performance on the field; the losses were down to mistakes he was making.

In that regard, he was the un-Wallace. I never wanted Terry as our coach, and I hope we don't get him by stealth.

the unknown is

will Craigy learn from his failure or will remain single focused and determined on his current philosophies

My concern is that Craigy's greatest strength is also his greatest weakness, yes at times sticking to the plan is the right way to go, however it can be argued that our gameplan was never good enough to win major finals and now it is totally falling apart due to the changing nature of the game, so why keep persisting

Yes your right Craigy needs to learn from his failure however he also needs to keep pace with the changing game with his training, game plan and his selection of players that can execute
