Good news for those who aren't PC gamers too. Crysis 2 will make use of the Cry engine 3 for consoles, which means it will be coming to PS3 and 360.

The next instalment of Crysis will be the first game built on Crytek's CryENGINE 3 and will be released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. EA will publish the game.

"The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio," said Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek, who had hinted at a multiplatform console game in April.

"This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event."

Following the announcement of CryENGINE 3 for consoles, it was inevitable that Crytek's next game would be for multiple platforms, but it wasn't obvious that it would be Crysis 2.

"Nothing speaks more to the success of the EA Partners program than when a studio the calibre of Crytek continues to work with us," said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners.

"Crytek is already one of the elite PC development studios in the world and we are excited to have the opportunity to partner with them in bringing their award-winning technology and gameplay to more platforms and a wider audience with Crysis 2."

Crysis was pretty ordinary, despite the graphics. Hopefully this one will be a bit better gameplay wise...

Crysis was just a tech demo, so I dont understand why they're putting something like it on consoles. It was made so people could test how powerful their PC's were, which is pointless on consoles. Most PC gamers got, upgraded their system so they could play it then went back to WOW or some other piece of shit.

If by pretty ordinary you mean absolutely terrible. So boring! The only reason anyone should bother getting the first installment is to benchmark their PC. (Kick ass on max settings btw )

Crysis 2 might end up being more then just flashy graphics with a shit story and dull game play, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Crysis was a great FPS. Destructible environments combined with the suit powers led to some awesome cat-and-mouse moments. It felt like you were the predator. I can't wait for it. Also, to the poster complaining about dumbing it down for consoles, I actually believe Cervat when he says that Cryengine 3 is fully scalable. My biggest issue with PC-to-console games is simplifying the game because of an 10-button joypad opposed to a 101 key keyboard + mouse, ala the arse-rape that was Dues Ex2. Crysis's gameplay will convert very well to console, IMO.

Biggest crock of sh!t

The conversion of RTS games to consoles has already gone a long way to destroying that genre by dumbing it down to games like Halo Wars and World in Conflict. We don't want FPS games to be next.

I'd like to add that I'm not a Crysis fanboy. The game was very good until it got up to the alien bit. I just couldn't get through it as it was rather dull. I did play the first half up to that point several times.

Gonna be set in New York. And here are the very first screens of the game (Plenty more at the source).

Makes sense. Probably easier for the consoles to render an urban environment as opposed to the sprawling jungle landscape of the original.

CryEngine 3 does look pretty good running on the consoles though. I was watching a comparison video a while back, and whilst it was evident that the PC version on high did have some advantages, the console version still looked pretty damn nice.

The urban environments in the tech demo were pretty horrid though. Was easily one of the worst things in the demo, while the jungle looked great, but I suppose they'd want something completely different to Crysis. Especially moving onto the consoles as well, going for something "new".

However those screenshots (not sure how close to in-game they are) does make NYC look much better than in that drab tech demo. The one thing that seems evident from the screenshots is that this won't be a "game" looking game and will hopefully look more photorealistic than the majority of previous game NYC's have looked. Hopefully this can be the best re-creation of NYC in a game yet. There's been plenty of tries but nothing that's really done that much justice as of yet.

Hopefully this PC game doesn't have to be dumbed down for console audiences and technology.

There....I said it.

And no, I'm not a Crysis fanboy. I got bored with the first one during the underground alien bit.

Great. They'll have to dumb down a decent PC game to suit the mindless console users.

There. I said it.

Indeed, twice in the same thread

Nice trailer...

That is a nice trailer. I'm tempted to finish Crysis 1 now. I never managed to get past the alien bit because I found it a bit dull. I did the stuff up to there about 3 times though.

My guess is it won't be completely connected to Crysis 1 in terms of story (as I said, I haven't finished Crysis 1 yet so I don't know if it's really open for a sequel and NO SPOILERS PLEASE). I'm guessing that because a lot of the console games won't have played the original.
