Dane Swan club-imposed suspension - two weeks

Congrats to COLL - club culture placed above the individual and a belief that the club can prevail without poorly behaved individual stars. You would never see that at HAW.

Pretty disappointing from an experienced campaigner. They were saying on SEN that his number one focus is not football. From interviews he has had this seems spot on. But this is a team sport and he needs to consider that he puts his team in a difficult position and now top 4 chances are in jeopardy.

What is his number 1 priority then?

"The decision was made after the club became aware that Swan had been drinking alcohol six days before next Saturday's match against the Sydney Swans, a clear breach of club protocol," Collingwood said in a statement on Tuesday. "The suspension followed discussions between a number of parties, including the leadership group."

Good on the Pies on their decision! But he reckons he was on the water so whats the go with that?

I wouldn't be surprised if its bullshit and he is being rested with a injury, I don't trust Collingwood on the eve of finals

I'm surprised no one has brought this up yet. Not trusting Swan at his word that he was only on the waters is the bigger story here, they'll still win without him.

Suspension is extremely harsh for someone who was only out til midnight on a Sunday without drinking, and still went to training the next morning.... if that is true.

At face value, this seems like an extremely rash and stupid decision that Collingwood are gonna regret big time.

Unless the club has very good reason not to believe him

questionable company, no drink in hand. can anyone read his watch?

Just picking up a lazy 40 touches a week it seems.
Honestly who gives a s**t as long as he trains and performs on the weekends.

Without going all Helen Lovejoy on you, as a senior player and one of the best 10-15 players in the league, he's supposed to set the benchmark for the younger players to aspire to, with his professionalism on and off the field. Maybe they're not as talented as Collingwood's A-graders, but if they see Swan, Pendlebury, Thomas, Beams etc. busting their arses at training, arriving early and staying late, they will get a better idea of what is required for them to get the best out of themselves. If they see that their best players are lazy at training and break team rules when it suits them, but they can still go out and pick up BOGs, well, that's probably how the West Coast Eagles thought about it ten years ago.

Interesting, as a Geelong supporter, to see what happens now with the Pies. Four pretty tough games on paper and they have to win at least two of them to be guaranteed a top four spot. It's still extremely unlikely that they'd miss out (I couldn't see them going into the Round 23 game against Essendon needing a win and not being able to deliver). But this suspension certainly doesn't help them.

Amazingly dumb thing to do at this time of the season. (Did he think to blame his condition on tattoo ink toxicity?)

And very impressive action by the club. Sends a clear message they are serious about the standards they have set.
