I sure do remember Byron, reckon a few guys might still be sore! Clems disposal looked good, flat quick through the air. And he looked like he had plenty of run, hard to gauge from shorts though I guess.

With Smith occasionally some of his kicks are nice. Too often and it won't come out in highlights being highlights he can put a little too much onto his kicks and the outcome is numerous sprayed kicks in there, not unlike say our Marley Williams, though perhaps not quite with the same penetration as Marley.

Wright kicked 32 goals and 21 behinds in 13 games at 60% accuracy for the season. http://www.foxsportspulse.com/team_...96134481&client=1-3020-111723-294694-20320271

After his first two games of the season where he kicked 9 behinds in total the remaining 11 games he kicked 27 goals and 12 behinds at 70% accuracy for that period.

He also managed to average 7 marks and 10 hit outs a game over the season.

In round 7 against Geelong kicked 6 goals 1 behind, 7 marks and 15 hitouts. Did not register a vote in his sides top six best players for the game.

One note regarding Wright's conversation in front of goal. While his accuracy will seem unappealing it is worth considering he kicks them from 60m so it's less that he has issues converting as much is they're just from longer distance than most other forwards.

Will we be using Pick 85?

It seems up in the air. If we like someone, I don't see why not and that would be my preference. But if we think we can get the same guys in the rookie draft then we may alternatively just keep open that final senior list position and go the extra rookie.

This is probably the last year we invest heavily in the draft

I expect you're right there and this year felt very much unintended but happened as a result of Beams.

In saying that Derek Hine in an interview earlier last year made mentioned that he likes next years draft so don't see us backing out of next year completely.

It's a real midfielders draft next year and filled with lots of outside types which probably would be appealing to us.

Knightmare Sam Weideman is coming through next year I know mark didn't play enough games to go father son but how highly do you rate him? Will he get drafted and would we consider him? I would love to see him become a third generation Pie.

I am sorry but i don't get this.

Surely you have to invest heavily in the draft every year. That is the nature of the draft and the AFL system

Or am i missing your point??

Over the last few years we have looked to gain high picks to get young players in. In years previous we looked to trade out top picks to get top line players in.

So, are you saying that next year we will look more at trading players than drafting them?

I don't mind this strategy with our young list but we do have a bad record with trades and especially free agents in the recent past.

It is also a dangerous strategy as you have to deal with two parties when trading for a player i.e. club and player. Only one party involved when drafting players.

Sam looks like a first rounder next year. He's a nice height, strongly built and can take a grab. So there is some promise there. If I was to do a phantom a year out he could go around pick 10. But things change. Jesse Watchman this year is an example of that as a key forward some touted as high as a top 10 pick coming into the year and it's probable Jesse misses completely this year. Conversely Sam could elevate his draft stocks and become a top two or three pick, though I'm not expecting it. But basically this far out don't bet on anything happening with individuals in next years draft crop other than perhaps the consensus top 2-4 or so.

Should Collingwood look at Sam next year? You consider all options but I wouldn't purposely go into the draft targeting him. I'd probably next year if anything be more inclined to go into the draft looking for a midfielder given the depth and quality of top end midfield options looking likely next season.

Fair enough, would be hard enough for you to compile a phantom draft for thursday let alone next year. But thanks for that he is someone I would love at the Pies. If we get Laverde or Langford this year would that enable us to go for a tall next year?

That all depends how we go during the season if we are shown to have any glearing deficiencies that would need an instant fix personally I would look to the draft next year and then after that focus on bringing in mature players that fill a need to set us up to have a crack at a flag from 2017 onwards

There will be a few considerations in play next year even if we take Moore as our only tall this year. Do we need something else more? Is there someone else likely to be available who is clearly better/represents stronger value at our eventual pick? Is he even available at our pick? Do we feel it is necessary to add a further key forward and is so then when? Is Reid a long term key forward and is he healthy? Do we think we can add a better young key forward through trade week or free agency in the immediate or down the track?
There will be lots of questions that will come into play next year even passing on a second key forward this year.

Does anyone know if the Draft will be live streamed on the AFL website? I was sure they did it last year, can't find any mention of it this year.
Don't think so. I can't remember it being done last year either.

I was trying to find this out also, as I won't be in the country. TD suggested just to listen to the SEN radio coverage online. Will be good enough for me until I can recap it online and view the club videos.

Pick 5 - Laverde

First question is tall or short. I think with Reid, Cloke, White and Moore up front then we are ok for a while yet. Frost, Brown, Keefe and the developing Marsh suggest it wont be back and clearly rucks are in good shape. So i would go midfield. Options are Laverde who is the type Hine has talked up all year and have been hearing its him for a while as I think they are clear Pickett will be gone. Langford is the other one but I would go Laverde as just think he is a touch better with his decision making. In saying that people are putting a lot of stock in a game Laverde dominated against a pretty ave opponent. Dont rule out Ahern. One Collingwood recruiter loves him.

Pick 30 - Viojo-Rainbow

I thought long and hard about Cavka for this pick and little splits them. I would be keen for a clearance player but I think one of Gore, Neal-Bullen or Bampton will be around at 48. Viojo is a terrific athlete and an elite kick. A backline of he Scharenberg and Langdon will be outstanding in years to come. Collingwood do want fwds though and again Cavka or Menadue would be have to be in the mix.

Pick 48 - Bampton

I would think Bampton is a kid who could pretty have a Wines type impact for us. His kicking isnt as good but everything else is. Having guys like Greenwood, Adams, Bampton, Broomhead, Freeman etc running around the middle good be fantastic. If they went with an inside mid like Blakely at 30 then maybe Boekhurst comes into contention here or Cavka but I think he will be long gone.

Pick 85 - Nic Newman

Just developing so quickly. I was a huge advocate for us drafting Hibberd a few years ago and frankly think the club missed an opportunity there as he was perfect for our needs and history suggested a good ball user from HB would have maed a lot of difference. Well here is another v good option and I hope we dont pass on it. Boekhurst would be good as well. Real roughie would be Jermaine Miller-Lewis or Shane Yarran. I think some talented fwds who might enable Elliott to push up would be good. Miller-Lewis has height, speed, x factor and aggression. Missed all year but worth a punt.

Rookie Draft - forget redrafting lets look at some kids;

Pick 8 - Shane Yarran

Best medium fwd I have seen come out of state league bar Andy Krakouer. This bloke has x factor in spades and whilst it would be 50:50 he goes I'd jump on him.

Pick 26 - Jesse Watchman

One I would be keen for here is Jesse Watchman. has a couple of great marking attributes. Guy is a beast and maybe with some development coaching for Rocca he would be a bargain. Could well be Callum Moore. Pies have real interest in him.

If we don't get a KPF at 5 this year then we need to next year imo.

Takes most KPP 4-5 years to play consistent footy and we don't want to get in a spot where we have an ageing fwd50 with a gun midfield, then need cycling the other way when we draft KPF and have an ageing midfield.

I definitely watched it last year and I don't have foxtel, must have been a stream.

So are we definitely using pick 85 on a player? sorry if this has been covered before
I doubt even our recruiting dept knows whether we will be using pick 85 yet. Will depend on the available players.

I think thats fair but I wouldnt rule out McKenzie if around at 30 and I am a fan of Watchman later. I think he has a lot of the tools but history says the best big men are always taken in top 10-15 so you may be right......maybe it should be this year. FA changes it all a bit but they would want to be confident.

Does FA really change it all that much? If anything FA makes it ridiculously hard to pick up a good established KPF without paying massive overs, or one who's approaching the end of their career who is unrestricted and want's the opportunity to get a flag. To get the second type, you have to be in contention, which we certainly aren't at the moment.

As much as I'd love Cameron, I can't see us getting him without blowing a massive chunk of our salary cap, meaning we will have to sacrifice quality players to do so (Sydney losing Mumford for peanuts is a prime example, and they will lose more as their star mids come out of contract imo).

In the age of free agency, having quality players who are worth high trade currency (KPP's) on your list is gold, and it make's having players who support the team they are playing for even more valuable imo, as they will likely be more loyal.

Cheers, so I guess you can also just pay the $4-99 for a 7 day pass on the iphone app and watch it that way.

FA imo is a bit of a poisoned challice too.

Sure you may pick up a Cameron for 1-1.3mil + a year over 5-7 years but look at what that does to the cap and the follow on effect to the rest of the list, you would eventually be forced to move on quality due to tight caps.

If you draft it then look for an FA gun mid for 600-800k it would have much less ramifications, quality KPFs come with a surcharge that quite frankly most the midfielder's wont except for the elite of the elite.

PS I would love McKenzie at 30 I don't think it will happen though.
