It’s a BOG medal... that’s all it is.

Don't pretend winning an ANZAC medal has any part in respecting the veterans. It's a medal for a best on ground footy player, it's not going to be pinned on a jacket for a march.

ANZAC MEDAL
A best-on-ground player has been named for each of the Anzac Day clashes. Since 2000, the player in the match considered to best exemplify the ANZAC SPIRIT – skill, courage, self-sacrifice, teamwork and fair play – has been awarded the AFL Anzac Medal.

(Supported by the RSL in its inception BTW)

Nope, I have a great life, thankyo7 very much, great husband 2 amazing kids, but that day I shared with my sister after many many many years of attending, heartbreak, sleeping out for tickets, crying over (another) 5 point loss, we went to the whole series together, and it wasn’t until we saw Matthews pumping his arms as he walked down the stairs that we looked at each other and said ‘we are gunna win!’ I remember it like yesterday! We went to vic park afterwards and sang simply the best and we ar3 the champions all night long, with 10,000 friends! It was ****ing awesome! And now I attend every week with my precious 23 year old daughter, and dream of doing it again with her. We were at the 2010 draw, butin the US for the replay! I don’t care how long it takes, we will get there....I don’t take holidays in September any more! Cheers

Man I hate Essendon and even I don't care. Oh woah, not during a medal ceremony! Never mind exterminate the Essendon football club.

A lot of deflection in this thread. Still waiting for any other examples where a player has been loudly booed during a medal ceremony (I know of one from 2006).

Happy to condemn any Pies fans who've done this. Were some claiming Schuey was booed when receiving the Norm Smith? Can't really hear it, certainly didn't cause him to stop his speech and don't recall it ever being called out by the media. Makes it tough that Schooooo sounds a lot like a boo. The chanting of Collingwood fans over Reiwoldt during the Grand Final parade in 2010 was definitely classless as well.

Booing during a medal ceremony is either poor behaviour or not. In my view it is and that view stands whether it's Collingwood fans or fans from Mars.

I don't like booing in general but do understand it can be part of the theatre or part of imposing a home ground advantage. Once the game's been won and done though, continuing with it some time after is pretty weak.

Hird was a year or two ago, they filtered it out on tv. I know for sure it's happened a few times, doesn't really matter though.

Shuey’s Norm Smith medal presentation says hi...

The booing was terrible. More calls went against the bombers than Collingwood. But the most damaging one was the goal Essendon kicked
For a hold on Langdon.

The key thing people think umpires change the result. Sheil burnt the ball consistently which cost them more.

Umpires don’t tend to change results. Players do.
Is that the same logic as the NRA's guns don't kill people, people do?!

Of course, umpires impact close games.

There was an Essendon supporter in the Birds of Tokyo thread who called the ANZACS fools.

Little wonder they have so little respect for the day.
There was once this poster that equated what one supporter posted with what a whole supporter group thinks about ANZAC day.

That means that all supporters of the club that poster supports must be well below the average IQ.

Langdon ran straight for him without eyes for the ball and started a wrestling match.

They just letting Pendles know they didn’t appreciate his played for soft diving free kick on ANZAC day. Had an English Officer vibe of entitlement to it.
Yeah - but you only get 'chicken wings' at Richmond matches on ANZAC Day eve don't you.;)
Maybe they should issue a 'white feather' award to the player who does that.:thumbsu:

Oh totally.

Now I completely believe that based on votes by media and ex players, Pendles should march alongside the most honoured veterans cos he done kicked good.

They can call a team West Coast or 'whatever other name you can dream of' - but its just a franchise attached to an expanded AFL.

West Coast where is that geographic location - make one up - 'Doesn't make it so'

How does that work for ya.

It's as real as West Coast.

Well both players will have to live with that. One gets a fine for being dirty the other a medal for exemplifying the ANZAC spirit for staging.

Absolutely nothing like today, but given the colossal straw-clutching that Essendon scum have been dredging from the filth of their collective deluded memories in this thread, I’m surprised it took you this long to bring it up.

All fans make themselves look small when they boo and blame the umpires for the loss.

But boy is Buckley a flog. Will he call out all the Collingwood fans who boo'd Goodes? that Booed Riewoldt? That Booed Gaff? That boo every single week?
You'd make a great coach, the players would love you, think about it.

Next time you speak to a veteran, ask them if their courage and sacrifice compares to Pendels

The RSL think it is a nice tribute, love the profile the match gives to ANZAC Day.
The veterans who addressed the players don't have a problem.
The rest is your problem...
Sorry you were wrong and didn't know what you were talking about regarding the medal- I can understand your embarrasment and need to make a 'witty' response to shield your ignorance - all of a sudden you're even using the words courage and sacrifice, learn something everyday don't you. Part of the ANZAC spirit the medal makes reference to and pays tribute to.
Of course its not a war and nothing compares to courage in that (aren't you a genius) - but it is a respectful tribute.
