I shot a chook last night, does that count?:D

Does anyone know if you can buy all weapons in the game, is there enough diamonds in contracts and briefcases to do it? I bought a gun last night which I am now regretting.

Apparently later in the game there's more diamonds than you can spend, you should be alright. Which gun?

Sweet,

Its an automatic primary weapon slot gun, I think its the G3-KA4. Nothing special when I stock up at the armory I prefer to have a sniper rifle, RPG or the SAW and either mac 10 or flare gun.

I just love taking the sniper rifle though I bought the Spas 12 last night as well and I love that for close qtrs.

What are the ragdoll physics like when it comes to shooting people? If you shoot them in the leg will the start limping for example? Fallout 3 apparently has a great system. They drop their weapons if you shoot them in the arm, for example.

Yeah, if you shoot them in the legs they drop to the ground and try to get up but fall over again, they'll scream out to their mates who'll run to help them and pick them up, it's good as once they have them over their back you can go for two kills in one with a sniper.

I got killed once as I thought i'd polished off a town, only to get shot by a guy lying in the long grass shooting me with his pistol. I couldn't find him and ended up torching myself with the flame thrower (as I wanted the bastard to burn) but I ended up trapping myself and burning to death.

Funny Stuff.

Gotta love how interactive this game is, was hiding in a shelter surrounded by baddies threw a grenade missed them all but hit an ammo supply which shot off bullets for 10-15 secs, didn't even have to fire a shot.

I bought this game bout 3 days ago and ive fallen in love! I loved the first one but WOW this game is awesome.

Im playing it on Hardcore and wow is it hard. It really makes you think, I dont ussually go on expeditions (by expeditions i mean planned trips to a mission with stops along the way; diamond cases, enemy camps, tapes etc on the way) during the day.

The game is designed so that its virtually impossible to go in guns blazing. My favourite tactic atm for clearing out enemy camps is ussually starting a fire nearby, running away and getting them from behind with the sniper, shoot and run. Then go in close and shoot any barrels, gas cylinders etc, if there is someone still alive, shoot them in the leg and see if they call for help.

Atm ive only completed the tutorial missions but ive gotten about 30 diamond cases and 5 tapes, ive also done all 4 convoy missions and I just completed one of the assasination missions. Im doing this to try and unlock the best weapons and have plenty of diamonds early. I think the sneaking suit is downright cheating though.

God the convoy missions are fun, easy but fun. *SPOILER* I just did the one which isnt really a convoy mission but an assasination of a guy in a convo. Where they circle the airport. I watched them circling and noticed that they drove through a small and very very detailed stream lol. While the mad dog sniper on the tower in distance wasnt looking, I ran over and put down 3 IED's in a 15x15x15m triangle (just to be sure :D). I ran off and had a sit down on the rocks about 100m away. Sure enough the prick came along in his fancy black 4WD with his bitches behind him and as soon as the first car (the target) entered the water... BOOM!!!!!.*SPOILER* can get enough of it! man its awesome.

And I wasnt to sure about the Dart Gun, but I realised about 5mins ago, that it actually goes pretty gd! There is a sniper perched on a 25m tower in the airport. I shot him from about 200m away, and it wasnt a headshot either! Thats with the accuracy upgrade, so if you are unsure, buy it. Its good because it can be used as a special weapon, so you can still weild a primary weapon for close action. The only drawback is that it only carries 5 bullets. But if you plan your trips well, shoot well and dont destroy everything in camps, five is plenty.

What weapon combos do you guys use for different scenarios? ATM im using the *SPOILER*Golden AK-47*SPOILER* as a Primary, Silenced Pistol which will eventually swap for the silenced MP5 as secondary and the Dart Gun for Special. That is for general camp clearing n shit. I swap the pistol for IED's with convoy missions and for pure mayhem and CBF style i swap the AK for a crappy old G-Launcher i found and and uzi as secondary.

wow that was a long post. sry guys. but ive been waiting so long to talk about this. HBK can verify that.

Sometime soon ill look back through the thread.:thumbsu:

MP5 is a primary weapon, a bit annoying.

I went straight into Hardcore mode too, it's pretty tough, and the AI is pretty good for the most part.

Yep. I bought an MP5 thinking it'd be a secondary, and had to reload from my previous save to annul that decision. Its a nice gun, but a bit extravagant to carry in the primary slot.

Definitely a flaw of the gun shop screen. It should tell you what slot you can use the gun in. Its pretty much the most important thing you need to know....

Yes my mistake. I bought the game guide too, so i dont really have an excuse lol.
swap the MP5 for the Uzi then. Uzi is ok, game guide gives it: 4/10 for Damage and Range, 7/10 for Accuracy, 6 for Reliability and 5 for fire rate. Also Default ammo for ascending difficulties is 30+150, 30+90, 30+90 and 30+60.
ask me any questions about the game if you didnt buy the game guide, its helped me a great deal.

I just remembered, you just have to go to upgrades in the start menu. if gives you a comprehensive list.:thumbsu:

Is there much variety in the game world? I know that it's huge and looks lovely but is it just African savannah constantly? I know that this gives a sense of "yikes this is big" and the African desert is meant to be like that but are there any mountains or towns or anything that changes things up a bit? It's a bit like Crysis having tropical island after tropical island. How do they break it up without changing the setting? Add in a freaky alien bit. It was very poorly implemented though so my point is completely ruined in this example.

I'll shut up now. Game looks good though. Does it have a real GTA element to it of just being able to walk around not achieving much but having fun doing random stuff?

There are dozens of different types. but mainly jungle, desert and arid (outback australia look). and fighting conditions change. in the desert your vision goes blurry farely often cus its just so hot and fires will start very easily. in the jungle, the folliage can be thick so it makes it very hard for enemies to spot you if your skilled enough. its also cool that they have lots of wildlife: birds, zebras, deers etc.
it flows very well. its mainly jungle in the middle and desert sorrounding it no loading times either.
ohh and ive only been on the first map, so i havent seen the 2nd half of it. Both absoloutely massive though.
It does sort of a GTA feel to it, there is a lot to keep you occupied.

Crysis sounds a bit like Far Cry 1.

I got the game yesterday but haven't played it really.

I did a few benchmarks and I get about 60 fps average on max settings, 4x AA and 1028 x 1024 resolution yet get these darn stutters. It's not laggy as such....just stuttery. Apparently this is an ATI problem and the latest hotfix helped but didn't solve it. Apparently limiting the FPS to about 40 helps.

Oh and the draw distance is shocking I have to say. Things pop from very short distances. I'll have to edit it in the config.

Considering Ubi have said that it runs best at 30fps, it would be good.

Ah, shit, I just lost my Gold AK-47, shouldn't have had it in the mission before getting introduced to the new map, anyone know if there is another?

There is heaps around. But id go with the FAL Paratrooper if your on the 2nd map, looks like a mean gun.

on the 2nd map there is a Golden AK directly north of 'Rail Xing', follow the river around the cliff going north, wen it turns back and starts going straight again, there will be a guard post on the left. on the right side of the bank there is bank, forest and then cliffs, head to the cliffs on the west side and follow it back down south, the gun is in there.

Awesome thanks, I'll have a look, I know it is just looks, and doesn't add any more to a normal AK-47, but it is a damn cool gun!

Interesting. I didn't hear that. I did notice a significant framerate drop when he went into "OMG I'M DYING FROM MALERIA" mode. to about 25 fps, without any limiting stuff.

Does run best at 30 fps simply mean that there is no stuttering or does it mean that anything about that really isn't any smoother? I mean in Crysis I know that there is a definite difference in smoothness between 30 and 50 fps.

This is what Ubi said; Source: http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/10/06/far-cry-2-720p-but-no-60-frames-a-second/
You asked. We got it answered. Far Cry 2 is set at 720p, but the game can’t managed 60FPS because it has too much going on.

“No,” multiplayer producer Richard Gaetan told VG247 when asked if the title is locked at the magic 60.

“We wish it would be 60 frames a second, but no. With the world so big – even in multiplayer the biggest maps are pretty huge – the dynamic grass that can catch on fire, the trees that can be destroyed, the vehicles in there as well, there’s so much going on that no, we’re not at 60 frames per second.”

Gaetan did confirm, though, that you’re going to get 720p out of the game.
This was the article I was going off from memory, had to go find it to clarify, so those are the reasons it isn't running well at 60fps, unfortunately it didn't say what it DOES run best at, but I'd say it would run best between about 30-40fps, that is what most next-gen games run at these days.

Probably would be possible if they went Crysis style on us and made it so high end no one could play it properly lol.

Hey guys got this game, any tips for a **** like me who always gets lost and can never seem to find missions? Obvious answer is probably "look harder" are they just out and about or is there areas where people are always giving you missions. To get better guns do you have to do the weapons dealers little side missions before you can find the "better" guns around the place?

Cheers, its good fun at times but yeah I get a lil lost and im into fallout 3 at the moment should've got one at a time...

If you want to play just the main story line, go to the faction leaders in the main towns. they will have an orange ! over them.

Doing the convoy (Gun shop) missions will unlock some guns and upgrades yes. But the majority are unlocked through storyline progress.

You can also find missions from the Priest in the main towns. These are called underground and will supply you with malaria tablets.

You can get missions off your buddies which you can find at Mike's Bar and your safehouses.

And you can also receive Assasination missions off someone at any of the radio towers marked on your map. There are about 4-5 on each i think.

Just remember, look for the Orange Hazard ! sign and there will be a mission. :thumbsu:

Gd luck, your gunna need it.

I'm not sure about console versions, but on PC, my machine runs Far Cry 2 rediculously well and I'm running everything maxed out with 4x AA and 1600x1200. Well over 60FPS. I hate playing FPS's at anything less than 60Fps personally.

30Fps is perfectly playable, but it's the minimum what you'd want. 60FPS+ is optimal. People say shit like 'the eye cant see faster than 30fps!!' that's bullshit, it's plain as day. The main thing that matters is frame rate drops though. If you are hovering around 40fps but then drop to 20 occasionally, it is far worse than playing at a consistent 30fps.

I'd also suggest that Far Cry 2 is a LOT less taxing than Crysis. Crysis' visuals are another step entirely on FC2. A moderate PC should be able to play it pretty damn well which is a credit to Far Cry 2's engine as the visuals are still pretty impressive.
