Out of all the stats to illustrate you pick that one? Those TOGs are standard for key backmen.

He also covers 17+ k's a game, with those TOG stats. Not like a standard key backman at all

Of the current crop probably Blicavs and Brad Hill.

Last season, Hartung.

On pure match effort, Gaff, Scully and Whitfield. In the past Robert Harvey, also Braun was WCs best runner not Cousins.

Recent history for the AFL, probably Robert Harvey, ran opposition into the ground.

When it comes to the Dogs, Daniel Cross, not the most gifted athlete/footballer, but aerobically/mentally had no ceiling. Absolute beast!!

Gotta be Blicavs right now:

Round 1: 97% TOG
Round 2: 95% TOG
Round 3: 96% TOG
Round 4: 99% TOG
Round 5: 93% TOG
Round 6: 89% TOG

(Round 6 an anomaly due to the fact we had the game won at half time, haha)

Seriously though, the guy is an absolute machine. Tom Scully would be second (considering current players)

Yeah, I highly doubt there’s ever been an AFL player who could run like him. Perhaps more earlier in his career if he was better then.

Kane Cornes was easily our fittest.

Dominated every pre season. Hardly missed a game too.

Probably still would be. See him running Albert Park lake on a regular basis. I can do one lap, go home have a shower, take the dog for a walk, have a siesta and then drive past there and he is still running. Freak Runner.

Still is an aerobic animal. Read sometime last year he was looking for a marathon PB time of under 2.5 hours! Very quick.

For us Lappin was probably the best we've had. More of a gut runner than being incredibly quick but could just run forever.

You would have to think the fittest player ever would be a relatively recent player with all the advances in training and general professionalism. Guys like Scully and Whitfield would both be up there.

Tim Clarke was a freak. Probably should of pursued running instead and got into the Olympics. Gutsy player but just woeful skills.
Like his older brother. Sister was an elite athlete too

Brad Hill holds most of the sprint and repeat sprint efforts on the telstra tracker. Slightly different measure of fitness but still extremely valuable to us

Shane Crawford. Retired and then ran to Adelaide and Cycled to Perth at a higher average speed than a Tour de France rider

I doubt that second stat, even if true how many 2000m+ climbs are there between Adelaide and Perth? Tdf riders usually sit on about 40kmh on the flat, I doubt Crawford was doing that for 2000km

Why isn't he in the tour De France then?

Average speed was the wrong wording then. Still ****ing impressive.

In raising $1.32 million for Breast Cancer Network Australia, Crawf performed at a higher level of endurance than the cycling professionals, riding further in fewer days than the famous Tour de France. He finished the epic 22 day ride in Perth last Thursday.
