" players of today would win they're faster and have better tactics "
Some are. Not many at Carlton are.

" players of today would win they're faster and have better tactics "
I dunno, the Fitzroy boys are getting a bit old now.
At what point did you ignore the part where in today’s football with numbers behind the ball, 1 on 1 virtually non existent which make real blowouts a rarity these days? Those saying Fitzroy would win are either having a laugh/troll or just don't (or too young to) remember how terrible poor old Fitzroy were.
Fitzroy won 1 game for the year, early in the season against a travelling Fremantle who were only formed the year before, had a number of injuriesdid and would go on to be bottom 4 for their first 5 seasons - with really bad away form (8 seasons if you count the year they got up to 12th/16).
Fitzroy's percentage was just 49! that year - meaning teams more than doubled their score over the course of the season. It was thought they may have had a chance for a last win with the emotion of it all in the last few weeks of a proud club with a long history, playing teams all outside finals in St.Kilda, Richmond and Fremantle again.
On a miserable day, an average St. Kilda made them look listless and silly, winning 88-35. The worst was yet to come though, with Richmond belting them 187 to 36! Their last game ever they were given the most hope though, against Fremantle (the only team they'd beaten) who were sitting in 14th and had little to play for.
Fremantle went on to belt them by 86 points in what I think was easily their biggest win to date.
Carlton, whilst poor, are still every chance to win another game but even if they don't, their percentage is up around 60 and they are still a fair bit more competitive. For those mentioning that Fitzroy had some decent players (Barker, Paxman, Molloy, etc.) most of those were kids at the time and went on to be handy. Carlton's top end - Cripps, Docherty, Murphy, Kreuzer, Curnow, Simpson, etc. surely surpass those on the Fitzroy list.
Carlton 2018 is a better team than Melbourne 2013.
take the blues 22 who played last weekend and play them against the WAFL or SANFL rep teams, and i think you have a very competitive game thereCarlton would annihilate Subiaco. Any struggling AFL side would still beat the best WAFL side in a canter.

Carlton would win but I'm not so sure about it being a flogging.Carlton would annihilate Subiaco. Any struggling AFL side would still beat the best WAFL side in a canter.
Played five finals for Hawthorn in 2000-2001 including a preliminary final in 2001 (the same year he was Hawthorn's leading goalkicker).
Injury saw Barker play only 46 games between 2002-2006 out of his 168 total games (beginning in 1994)
Who would win in a Carlton 2018 vs Carlton 2002 match up?
Melbourne 2013 is such an underrated bad team. It's because GWS played a bunch of skinny teenagers the same year and only won 1 game, which made Melbourne's two wins look pretty good. But they were both unbelievably bad.To be honest I always find squiggle a good method of comparison for these kind of discussions Final Siren
Eyeballing the charts Fitzroy 96 and Carlton 18 look around the same level - but has Hanny states - Melbourne 2013 appear to be worse than both!
