I think Nev's got a very valid argument.

Pretty simple solution - you do something of that nature (punch to the head off the play), instant deregister for the year. Then watch as it never happens again
He did used to have one but Simpson got a bit too excited every time he entered his office. Think he uses a magic 8 ball these days.If Nisbett gets another press conference anything could happen. He must have a chook wheel in his office. Lucky it landed on "golf" and not "declare war on panama."
Yeah, it's like saying "would" when you actually meant "wouldn't". You know, the old double negative thing. When he said they had played golf together he meant it figuratively, apparently. He didn't mean that they had actually attended a golf course and played golf in the company of one another... or had even actually met. Or communicated.
Some less mature people may have missed the nuance in his comment that they played golf together. Of course he didn't mean in the sense of actually doing it. Stop taking things so literally.
Suggestion of a 12 month ban from Neville Bruns (who Leigh Matthews was charged with hitting) is interesting. https://thewest.com.au/sport/west-c...one-year-ban-says-neville-bruns-ng-b88919993z
I want to watch the best players out on the field as much as anyone but at the same time these pathetic Mickey Mouse fines and suspensions clearly aren't getting the message across that punches in AFL games are not acceptable for our society in 2018+. We are seeing a heap of the best players lose 12 or more months from freak injuries like ACLs, so why shouldn't we contemplate similar stints on the sidelines for disgusting deliberate acts that have no place on a football field?
I'm personally hoping this suspension considers how long Brayshaw would have been out for if this had happened earlier in the season so in the 10+ range. I think that would take the heat off talk of criminal charges and at least send some kind of message that irrespective of intent off the ball punching is not acceptable. If you look at Dean Solomon getting 8 weeks and Hall getting 10 weeks 10 years ago, anything less will put the heat back on the AFL as not taking the one punch and anti violence campaigns seriously.
During the off season I do hope they prepare new rules for year long bans for similar incidents in future. If players know they might miss an entire year they'll be far less likely to go out on the field with closed fists. We do not need to see another incident like this in the next decade.
This is what I posted on the main board. Really says it all about how I feel the Eagles have handled this.
So looks like Andy and Gaff never played golf. Am I reading this right?View attachment 539490
I hope Gaff accepts it
Kinda wish the club tries to defend it though but instead of there being a penalty for Gaff there was a penalty to the club - really want them to burn for their continued arrogance. Weirdly, it's not Gaff i'm pissed it
Surely someone like a coach would have enough integrity to stand firm in the face of that though
If the coach can't live up to his core values, how the **** are the players expected to
Nisbett I expect it from, but not Simmo
This was the biggest surprise - he has always been a decent guy and no matter how much i dislike wce he was always a good guy. His quarter time interview and his channel seven interview were very poor. Came across like a spoilt, entitled w***er. Which is the opposite of what I have always thought of him through his playing days until now.
Gaffgate is the gaffe that keeps on giving
Thats pretty weak from Green. X weeks for any punch without regard to the circumstances. So 2 weeks for Gaff then? He's lost me. That's the sort of crap I reckon was engineered by west coast's spin doctors and he's signed up for the ride. When he starts naming and shaming non west coast punchers, I won't be listening.
Matt Thomspson from afl.com.au has just tweeted:
Fact: Andrew Brayshaw never played golf with Andrew Gaff.
I want to know if Andy has every picked up a golf club in his life now!
Maher's Disclaimer wordAndy Maher suggesting Nisbett doesn't get much wrong, been around footy a long time etc, so putting doubts on Pav's tweet about the golf.
This. Those trying to downplay the hit by saying Gaff meant to hit the chest but by accident hit the face don't seem to realise the dangers in throwing a punch any where near the head. Gaff missed the chest by a fair way and could have easily hit the temple or throat and the outcome would have been oh so different
