1) Carlton come out and clearly state that they won't be asking for a PP
2) The media runs with the angle that Carlton desperately need to apply for a PP
3) The AFL states that they won't give Carlton a PP unless they apply for one, and convinces Carlton to apply for a PP
4) The AFL turns around and tells Carlton that they won't receive a PP because they already have enough "young talent" on the list
5) The Media runs the angle that Carlton were not successful in their bid for a PP, throwing our draft/trade plans into disarray ....

You have to love the AFL and the media. What a pathetic bunch of individuals .........

I also love how the AFL will "over-compensate" teams such as Melbourne (Frawley compensation), Geelong (Motlop compensation) and now the Suns (Lynch compensation) to manufacture desirable outcomes for some clubs yet pull this crap when it is Carlton which needs the assistance.

God even allowing Essendon to have the #1 selection in 2016 when they finished last due to most of their senior players being suspended for doping charges shows that the AFL are happy to engineer favourable outcomes if they benefit the AFL (Essendon should have received their 1st rd pick before the finalists in 2016 so they did not significantly "benefit" from fielding an artificially weak team due to the doping charges).

A situation where Carlton receives a PP which must be traded on for a mature player (such as MM), which is basically how they engineered the Cat's getting Ablett through the Motlop compensation, or the set up of a mini-draft such as that when the Giants came into the system, would have been a much better outcome ...........
Loving the salt.

North got 4 years, 60 games and 125 goals out of Waite. Carlton = 0 free agent compensation.

McAdam is from Halls Creek, country WA. Isn't this his first year in the SANFL? The idea Carlton/Gold Coast trade him to the Crows as some sort of lock is a weird one. He's more likely to go to WA or just as likely to go to Sydney or stay in Queensland or at the Blues...

Why do you think you are entitled to a free "gun" player? If you can get a mature bodied foot soldier to help the kids develop through the next 3-5 years that would be a good outcome.
So we’ve been bagged all year for playing blokes like Lamb, Mullett, O’Shea etc but now you see picking up a type like that from a state league as a good thing?

**** me Bigfooty really is laughable with how much people contradict themselves.

The hate is really weird. They try to mask it behind pseudo-discussion, but really they just want to see us fold.

As much as I dislike the Pies, Essendon and Tiges (in that order), I still hope they'll always be around and competitive as traditional rivals. I guess others don't see us that way lol.

The Crow fans I get, we reamed them in last year's trade period so they're bitter AF.

Melbourne though? We don't even care about them but they are still super vocal lol.

Hang on.... No one held a gun to carltons head and said “you must apply for a PP or else”... so the whole premise of your arguement is pointless..

Carlton said they didnt want one.. so when all the media crap was flying around about it they simply shouldve stuck to their initial comments on the matter and completely ignored the media crap..

Youre making it sound like carlton were forced to apply!..

And dont worry... im with you on the AFL media being an absolute joke..

This is also assuming that the crows or port even want him for a start...

Carlton went from firmly saying we wont apply because we dont think we will be successful, to then changing its mind. It was clear their had been some indication from league HQ that it was worth our time applying. The about face now is just bizarre and probably because Brisbane & Stkilda applied as well and it was hard to justify giving us one and not them.

I don't think Carlton should be getting any assistance from the AFL at this point.

Carlton's ****ed up so many times and it's time for the club to sort it's crap out finally. We keep changing personal in key positions and yet I keep seeing the same insipid on field performances year after year. AFL putting some spice on the dried out turd that is Carlton atm isn't going to change much.

I love the club but hand outs and pity from the AFL won't stop Carlton from screwing it up all over again.

GC is a new club in Rugby Heartland that has bleed players so I'm less opposed against them getting help. AFL probably needs to intervene more directly to keep them afloat at this point unfortunately.

And finally you concede you are an AFL-run club by not even engaging the discussion. Acceptance feels good doesn't it?

That's what you get for being a hypocrite matey. Pot. Kettle. Black.

Run along now.

I didn't concede anything. I just find your disconnect with reality hilarious. Go and tell Glen Bartlett, Gary Pert, Geoff Freeman, John Trotter and the rest of the MFC board that they are run by the AFL.

Your club is in the shit and no longer able to bully other clubs and buy premierships like you used to get away with in the 70's and 80's. They actually need to focus on working to become a strong club instead of just throwing their weight around. Still haven't come to grips with it and it's hilarious.

Seems pretty harsh for the afl to say Carlton should ask for a pp and then deny it. The media ran with that all year in preparation for one.
I reckon it's hilarious personally.

Bahahahahaha.

The club that finished last getting the first pick = the AFL engineering an outcome.

It's not like that's the only player you'll be able to draft/trade in. You'll probably get McGovern. You're going to get the #1 pick and ~#20. You've got Cripps, McKay, SPS, Curnow, Dow, Weitering and others to build a future side around. Docherty will be back next year. If you get smart with your trading you might be able to fast track the process by trading out next years first round pick for another top 10 pick this year (like Melbourne did when we took Oliver and Weideman in the same draft). You've got a free hit at a state league player with plenty of examples of similar types running around at other clubs who would easily best 22 at the Blues.

There's something to work with there. My post was in response to one of your supporters lamenting they wouldn't pick up a "gun" with the state league free hit. Not everyone on the list has to be a "gun" even premiership sides consist of solid B+ type role players.

The club that gave their players performance enhancing drugs getting the first pick = the AFL engineering an outcome.
Agreed.

Was a horrible decision by the AFL.

"Tom Browne reports the Blues’ application for an extra pick has been denied, with the club set to receive free access to two state-league players. The Blues’ application for an extra pick has been denied, with the club set to receive free access to two state-league players.

It is understood Carlton will be unable to trade the players to the other clubs."

Tom Browne. Do better.

Common issue among older Carlton supporters that struggle with the idea of been unable to field 22 super stars. Carlton's not gunning for a flag anytime soon so I'd love for the club to go out of it's way to get some older players to give the younger guys breathing room to develop properly. No matter if we got a priority pick or not Carlton is going to get stomped next year barring some miracle. Carltons been grabbing C graders unintentionally for years now so may as well grab some decent state league players on purpose to ease the transition. Cripps is going through the Nathan Jones simulator atm so he'd love some mature bodies to play around too.

Doesn't help that most of Carltons better older players are injury prone like Murphy and Kreuzer.
