This is just embarrassing now. Why are you even on bigfooty at this time of year?

I just don't know how much longer I can keep supporting this team. It's just not fun anymore. It's just gutting. I'm starting to hate the club, hate Chris Scott and footy in general. It shouldn't be like this, it should bring you more joy than pain. I just want to stop watching this team and forget they ever existed. It's just bloody heartbreaking.

Then stop. What's the point in watching something that hurts your mental this much?

I'll never hate this club. I want nothing more than us to win but the fact I've been able to see us win 3 flags, that I never thought we would win, have been three of the greatest moments in my life and make up for all the shit we've gone through.

Easy target. Putting it on Hawkins is easier than conceding we were no chance after half time and got completely bent over. Give people hope... If only he'd just converted. Well, if only the side and its gameplan didn't get completely cut to pieces again... but that's a more difficult issue to address.

Disagree at people suggesting we weren't a chance even if we kicked accurately, you should not lose a final when you win the marks I50 count 10-4, it indicates you had better entries into the forward line. We did enough to win this game, we created enough opportunities.

No they didn’t, they had 4 more home games then Geelong, the entire season was manifestly unfair and to compound that with being forced to play in front of that crowd is outrageous.

But please pray tell how Port earned that final fair and square?
I think its been around for about 100 years...
1 plays 4. They finsihed on top of the ladder.

Its not rocket science nor is it new.

This season has a pandemic running as well so the home games concept in HA season has been whacky.

But PA playing this Qf at home was eanred by them and had nothing to do with us losing.

Mthc Duncan on KROCK said we were beaten contest to contest. Thats work rate to the core.

Ground had nothing to do wth it. PA earned it.

And then there are those supporters who stick with their team, even when it is not fun and that team almost folds due to finances. It may even take them 44 years to see them win a premiership, but the real supporters stick fast. That is the difference between them and the fair weather supporters.

But where were those shots? How many set shots did we have tonight 30 out on a slight angle? Not many. Their defenders out worked us and pushed us wide. Yah we took the mark but the shot was a low percentage chance. That's on our set up through the midfield and taking low risk options moving the ball inside 50. And fundamentally poor forward line structures.

I could quibble about the form of individuals but overall I thought everyone more or less did what was expected of them, and under genuine pressure, too.

The result sucks, but if there is such thing as an honorable loss these days then that'd go close to qualifying - Port were a bit better on the night, yet we were with them every step of the way.

Maximize/Convert our opportunities this evening and things may well have been different.

The footy we played in the 2nd quarter was as compelling as anything that we've offered up all year; things didn't always go our way, but we were producing strong football under Finals pressure.

However after Half Time we came out just a fraction passive; I was a bit concerned when Port added an early behind and the vision on the screen saw a very stagnant Geelong team; we looked flat and short of leg.

We were still in it up to our necks late in the last quarter, but Port's game had more natural dare and run.
It was ex-Cat Steven Motlop who exemplified Port's facility for maximizing their opportunities in transition; he was always good at that at Geelong despite the ups and downs; he is a thoroughly modern-day footballer, perfect for his role as a half-forward; as good in transition as there is, offensively.

On the anniversary of the 2011 Flag, Tom Hawkins took a trip down memory lane, menacing up forward and yet unable to get any value for his shots on goal.
He would like to have some of those shots again, a couple betrayed some mental tightness.

It cost us.

* Gary Rohan's poor finals record was in no way improved with tonight's showing - he tried; flew high to no avail, competed aerially with little actual effect.
Still not canny enough to earn himself a few cheapies to alleviate that mental weight.
And he was ok early on with some clean touches, too ... honestly that role is a tough gig ... Dan Menzel was probably our last forward who played such a specific role, he'd kick more goals in big games, but would leak others going the other way.

* Brandan Parfitt's ability to sell candy will break some ankles before he is done; comfortably has the best side-step in the biz.
It's the subsequent decision-making which he needs to improve in order to fully maximize his talents.
He was really good tonight; I've got him earmarked as our next Captain if he sticks around.
Side-stepped Port players for Shits n' Giggles throughout the match no matter what the game situation was; Ablett jr used to do that. But there was little payoff.

* I had Jed Bews and Joel Selwood vying for Best Cat honors in the first half, with Bews having a massive impact imo.
But they were surpassed in the end by Lachie Henderson, who had the best game of his career given the stakes.
He has had a wretched Finals run whilst a Cat, tonight he was brave and gutsy and composed.

* Jack Henry is one of my favourite young Cats, but he really needs to sharpen his peripheral sight and hearing.
I've seen him caught in that manner a few times this year.
I don't mind seeing him caught HTB when trying to make the play, particularly when we are down on the scoreboard - but he has to realise that he doesn't have all night to dispose of the footy come Finals. Still thought he played pretty well overall.

* Ray Chamberlain insisted upon drawing attention to himself with a period of unneccessary grand-standing in the 2nd quarter that left neither team any the wiser as to his interpretations. The umpires were fine overall though.

* Harry is running on fumes but will go down as one of our ultimate professionals; he has prepared himself, and done his job, week in week out for 13 seasons now, and he represented the club and himself to the very best of his ability yet again tonight. Might only have one game left in more ways than one.

Conversion in front of goal was our biggest issue tonight; Port made the most of their opportunities & we shit the bed when it came to our chances

Across the match we had more scoring shots than Port - 13 (P) vs 17 (C), and more scoring shots in 3 of the 4 quarters

Q1-
Port: 2.1 13 (3 scoring shots)
Cats: 1.4 10, (5 scoring shots) add in Hawkins missed shot & what should have been a set shot for Parfitt after the siren if not for the handball to Ablett, and that's 7 shots on goal in the first quarter
Port with less scoring shots win the quarter by 3 points

Q2-
Port: 2.1 13 (3 scoring shots again)
Cats: 2.3 15 (another 5 scoring shots
Cats win the second quarter by 2 points, but trail at half time even after 10 scoring shots to 6

Q3-
Port: 3.2 20 (5 scoring shots)
Cats: 1.1 7 (2 scoring shots)
Port finally have more scoring shots and they make it count winning the quarter by 13 points

Q4-
Port: 2.0 12 (2 scoring shots)
Cats: 1.4 10 (5 scoring shots, just like the first quarter)
Port win the quarter by 2 points making the most of their chances

The only quarter we genuinely struggled to get the ball forward was the 3rd quarter, but we should have gone in at half time 3 or 4 goals up at least and you never know how that 3rd quarter then plays out.

It was also clear during that first half that when we kicked a goal it shut up the crowd, and by not getting a run on and kicking away when we had our chances in the first half we shot ourselves in the foot

Just 2 things that absolutely piss me off

how many times week in week out going forward do we have 4 forwards going for a mark and no one staying down
Also, people saying our back lines continuity is elite need to start watching how many times our defenders take each other out then it resulting in a goal.
Happens 2/3 times every week

We are too system based

not just tonight but we always look our best when 15 points down and taking the game on
