The loss of Duncan and Hawkins was most felt in the third. Sav tried his best but was tough for him to continually push up the field and hold marks. When they inevitably came in the third would have been handy to certainly have those guys there. Younger guys like Narkle and Parfitt struggled there. Danger second half was well below par as I was expecting him to go full beast mode and get the job done. Maybe he was carrying a thing or two? Sel was great as usual and I thought overall the younger crew stood up. Kelly was huge very sad to see him leave which seems likely. Need to get heaps for him. Lynch was clear difference between sides and move had to be made. First half of year we were settled second we weren’t. They as a coaching group need to take responsibility for that because we never really got going again and were erratic with selection and positioning of players. Full credit to Richmond for turning it around but we were all over them in the 2nd and should have been 6 goals up.

We are fortunate in that we are always in and around the mark but we just aren’t good enough for long enough and been the story in finals.

First 12 rounds had me so excited because like you said they looked settled and hungry.

Unfortunately the 2nd half of the year really did look like more of the same from the last couple of years.

9 defenders selected last night.
Does Scarlo have too much say in the team selection? If it is down to say Constable and Tuohy does Scarlo's Misfits tip it Zac's way?

Aren't some calling for him to be our senior coach next season - could have 22 defenders in that case ;)

We do seem to have a few defenders on our coaching panel - might be time for more former forwards or midfielders to balance things out and offer different perspective

Bookmark it. I’m certain it will happen.

Richmond will be carrying a lot of sore players from last night and a couple of likely outs (Graham and Broad). Never ideal to make unforced changes in GF week.

On top of that Collingwood has well and truly figured out how to beat them with 2 huge wins in their last 3 games. Richmond beat them late in the season when Pies were missing half a dozen of their best team.
Collingwood have big outs too

and is in the reserves for good reason, or does the numerous different people hearing from others that could conceivably have info not convince you.
We heard it pre-game Carlton from Budda230, who as a twitter man, no doubt you'd know what he does these days.
Another in the Constable thread stated he'd heard something about Constable, and it sounds eerily similar.

I strongly doubt bringing in a slow inside midfielder who is in the reserves because he ball watches and doesn't follow his man would be the right man in, especially when Richmond got on top by running the ball in waves, at pace, on turnover. His weakness is precisely the method Richmond used to get back into the game and we already had enough midfielders being lazy with their accountability.
Nah much better to bring in yet another defender and play him out of position

That's the thing though, our coaching panel is locked in for next season all existing coaches have been offered contracts for next year.

We don't have outside voices willing to question the status quo

Why did we lock them all in?

Isn't that going to be like 3 seasons in a row without change because we kept them the same for this season also?

How many teams have totally unchanged coaching line-ups for 3 consecutive seasons?

Then don't play Henderson, put Taylor forward and then who replaces Hawkins. We still have the same problem.
A bunch of options no one on here wants, but then is happy to complain about after the fact.

Geelong supporters completely lack the tenacity and togetherness of other clubs.

N-one at the start of the year was tipping us for the flag. We went through a wonderful year, and discovered new talent. Our recruits in Dahl, and Rohan were worth what was paid for them. Unfortantely a shallow list had injuries at the wrong end.

It was also the first year where we were genuinely excited about the output - not potential of a first round pick.

This list is haemorrhaging from the lack of first round pick talent

What the tigers list management did well was recruit in from opposition sides nankervis, lynch, prestia, caddy, houli - all who would have been in our starting 22
but ehy rolled the dice on stack who looks like a tatts win, and according to vfl reports pickett is exceptional and the exact player we needed in the run home

anyone who thinks a full recruit is dillusional, you will have players continuously picked off

look at gold coast - give them ablett, lnch, prestia, caddy etc and their list looks ok

we need to regroup, and appreciate what we have
we have one of the hardest coaching groups to coach against - we simply dont appreciate the overachievement of this list

Ryan Abbott for mine. Have he and Stanley alternate between ruck and CHF and keep Sav deep forward.

we needed outside run and carry
there were was enough lack of pace out there

constable is much like stanley this year, when they played seniors were ok, in the vfl then their reputation was senior like
Was okay? He was averaging 20+ a week.
Constable in the middle rotating off the bench, Narkle or Parfitt on the wing there is your pace through the midfield rather than a KPD playing as a wing and not impacting the game.

But both those players were crap too. Parfitt arguably worst on ground.

I was at the gym today trying to blow it out a bit and I was thinking.

I started with the fact that obviously Hardwick's response to CS's stupid comment pregame (again ffs!!!) about them being worse and us better was instructive. I read it and thought "well Chris you've just been owned". Then I got to thinking that Hardwick is almost a monty to rack up his second flag next weekend, yet the competition has improved and the game evolved since his last one in 2017. And he was nearly gone in 2016. By comparison CS won one first up but we have gone backwards since in my view, or at least others have moved past us.

That sums up how I feel about the whole thing at the moment, it is not a pleasant realisation, and I really really need a break from it all.

As for last night I thought our lads played their guts out but came up short. Some really gutsy and skillful stuff. Menegola's smother was a good as anything all night.

As another poster said above Richmond played out of their skins in the second half. I can't for the life of me understand how this chaos football sees the bloody ball bounce the right way all the time, the free get given - or not. Maybe it's just momentum or karma, or something else I don't understand.

I do know two things though.

Firstly I do not particularly enjoy chaos football. It is just a mess at times and I see so many free kicks that would normally be given not given. So many close calls ... And secondly, Dusty, though a great footballer, is an A1 prat and shits me no end. I think he would even if he played for us.

That's my rant. There have been some wonderful moments this year. I'd love to see Gaz go again, and thought through the year he should have had a few games off. Maybe would have helped a bit who knows? But ce (say?) la vie.

Hawk will be feeling like shit and I feel for him a lot. He is a genuinely good guy and this will hurt him as much as anyone. He will be well aware this might have been the last roll of the dice.

Scott can do what he likes. BAU, I'm over him.
