plus d- players ran out of legs and composure when the FRESHER Tigers exerted their true pressure game
Seemed that Richmond also held their structures better - there forwards didn't get sucked up the ground as much as our defenders did and that meant on a turn over, if we couldn't lock things up quickly & they got to the ball over the top, we couldn't stop them. Our defenders were playing catch up to their forwards.

During the second half it also felt like they had 2 players ready to pressure our guys and on a turn over they then had like half-a-dozen free options.

I'm not sure where our players were at times because it seemed we struggled for open options ahead of the ball but then lack of players behind the ball on a turnover.

It's just super frustrating because we had all the running in the first half, failed to really break the game open and then couldn't maintain our pressure & composure in the second half

Indeed. For Tom Browne and others, I'll give you a head start:

1. Having finally found a position for Blicavs as a key defender, and with Tom Lynch killing us, why didn't you play him there?
2. Why did you move Dangerfield forward at the start of the third quarter, when he was playing well in midfield?
3. Why did you not play Blicavs in defence for the ENTIRE FINALS SERIES?
4. Why didn't you try Taylor forward which would have allowed Henderson to play in defence where he is far more comfortable?
5. Given that you specifically recruited Zac Smith and Scott Selwood, why weren't either selected during the finals and what are their futures?
6. We recruited Gary Rohan, a player known for having injury issues and disappearing in finals. He ticked both those boxes this September. Was recruiting him a mistake?

Easy.
That's the big one for me.

Blicavs on Lynch should have been a no-brainer but why was he moved from FB in the first place when we had such a good defensive structure for the first half of the year; makes absolutely no sense to me.

A bit harsh on Rohan. I think there’s more to it. Anyone that can play that level for 10 weeks has the ability to do it consistently.

He's played 125 games in ten seasons. He STILL averages less than 10 touches a game. Turns 29 next year.

Anyone who thinks his drop in form is some kind of aberration of a one off hasn't paid proper attention. It was always a good chance of occurring which plenty of us pointed out before he signed. It is not a surprise.

Fun fact: this season was his lowest average in tackles per match for his entire career.

He kicked 20 goals in his first 9 games, which was outstanding.

After that, 5 goals in his last 10 games, and less than 10 touches on eight occasions. Only once did he have more than 3 tackles. The idea that he's a relentless forward pressure machine is a myth. It wasn't a surprise, he simply turned back into Gary Rohan.

Who'd have guessed that Gary Rohan would have injury problems and failed to fire during finals.

We are just so unlucky.

This is what has finally finished Scott and the MC for me, they develop a bloke into an AA defender then at the pointy end of the season decide it's a great idea to move him away from that position.

No coincidence that over the past month or so he's played some of his worst football for the year, twice as a ruckman and twice as a winger.

At the start of the year we would have been happy with a top 4 finish, and a prelim. Our list is thin, and lacks depth. We heavily rely on our top 6 players.

Our recruiting is not questioned yet we are happy to throw our coaching team under a bus. When we win its all Scarlo, when we lose its all Scott. Our coaching team has been rotated as Scarlo and Enright are in there. Lloyd has come in as well.

Last night the tigers were simply too good. For all the blood letting for Blitz on Lynch watch the game. Lynch was super because of super fast ball movement. No-one would have had the opportunity to out mark him or spoil him in nearly all of those contests. What Lynch does well is he has his opponent under the ball with HANDS IN BACK and moves their position and can then lean over the top.

What Richmond has done well is to bring in talent whilst on top without losing a top quality player. Geelong lost Ablett and the Hawks Buddy. Our dynasty was affected by the decision of Ablett, and the tigers were able to add Lynch.

So when everyone is laying into a coach who has kept an average list in the finals, think about whether you want this experience or be Melbourne. Our list is not great, and yet we have a good coach. We simply sit here and take great delight in potting him. The mighty hawks are where? Are the Hawks potting him?

If Geelong supporters were rational they need to consider the 'TRUCK' writing copious amount of s**t to get Hawkins suspended. Yes his act was stupid. So too was Bashers. And Basher has a history of behind play gutless acts. His act was HIGH, INTENTIONAL, and LOW IMPACT therefore a week. But i have not seen 40 replays or copious amounts of print. This is what annoys me. All that happended was Miers was allowed to be ridiculed, inc by Cameron Ling. Tigers were allowed to continue to hit into him. Seriously we need to look after our own. I dont care if Houli plays or not, but his hit had more impact/force than Green.

And look at our recuiting. Last night we needed another tough mid. The thorpedo would have been perfect. We recruit the nice kids.

TRADE FAILURES
- Varcoe for mitch massive fail
- Caddy for parfitt fail

RECRUIT FAILURES
- thurlow
- lang
- smedts
- cockatoo

what we have not done is had some wins with early draft picks. kelly has disguised our poor recruiting

2e was an overpay
henderson was overpaid for
and we are the only ones who cant work out free agency and paid for danger

wells needs to stop being the good guy
I agree with that. But I'm not sure if Wells has been given the chance to do his best work.
We seem to have been taking short cuts and risks to get that next flag since 2011.
If you look at Cocky, Smedts Lang, we took them all earlier than we should of in the hope to get a real bargain cause they were coming off injury years (ala Selwood) and hopefully get the jump on the teams with picks ahead of us.
Yeah Thurlow over Grundy is bizarre but the club didn't want to wait to develop a Ruckman so we got McIntosh instead.
If the club wants Henderson and 2E Wells has to pay. Not his fault. Maybe could be a better negotiater I guess.
We were just lucky Wells got his way over Scott on Delidio, or that's another one you could of added to your list.

I saw that too. Maybe our game plan didn't have two halves in it, and needed to be tweaked after the hal time. Often we get smashed in the 3rd, even when we win.

Tuohy cost us jack. Hendo is a bust right now but has a few years left to even it up.

Of course. Players can and do win games btw, but I agree with the concept over a 120 minute game. Richmond was always going to win last night being the superior team. Have said that all second half of this year.'My claim is we may be looking at them as an all-time great team as well, but they will need to win next week. I am defending our loss. We are a good team. BUT... Richmond has been strengthened by Lynch and should be a force for several years, and if they are up to winning flags, will be highly regarded. We are not in that league.
Just like Hawthorn 13, 14, 15 - surely an all time great team, even if we hate that.

One things for sure Dubs, you're going to be proven right come five o'clock Saturday evening no matter who wins; so far this year you've variously declared Collingwood, GWS and Richmond as "the teams to beat" (not to mention WC and I think you came close at one point to jumping on Essendons bandwagon as well) so you certainly have all your bases covered.

Rolling the dice. Houli took Dahlhaus to the cleaners in the second half last night too. Not a great day to be discussing the merits of top up recruits..

And people need to remember the tigers played 10 games at the g
So minimal travel miles
Oh FFS we had to travel 80ks up the road.
All teams had a week off before finals anyway.
We had 11 weeks to prime for finals with heavy training loads(of shit), managing players etc.
Just not true at all Richmond were that much fresher and more run in the legs etc.
& if they were? Faarken hell! Heads need to roll.
What an absolute balls up of an excellent year with injuries and knowing we were finishing top 2 before the bye.
F**king waste.

I think they have to stop playing around with team selections and start settling this team much earlier in the season; IMO an unbalanced team is one of the reasons why we haven't at least made it to a GF over the past 4 years.

Personally i would like to see both Tuohy and Henderson play at HB for the whole year with Stewart also off HB, Blicavs at FB, one of O'Connor or Bews and one of Kolodjashni or Henry; stop playing 8 or 9 defenders and just pick 6.

It's like Blicavs when he isn't playing in defence (that is, he's utterly useless). People simply ignore facts they don't like, and hope they go away.

To be fair, I'm hoping Scott goes away too and that hasn't worked either.

Hahahaha, at least that gave me a bit of a chuckle this morning.
It's like I can't believe Scooter has injury problems or Mitch Clark would be a shit bloke. We just can't take a trick.

I was hoping they'd send Atkins to do a shutdown role on Houli but it never happened and like you said Houli was dominant off HB.

What did people think of Menegola's game last night?

I thought he was pretty good though i would like to see him clunk a few more marks when he goes forward.

Richmond seemed to cope with travelling to Brisbane for their first final reasonably well too. To face a team that finished above them on the ladder.
