Review Geelong defeats North by 60 points

Taking advice from "the secret" didn't help his goal kicking. Why didn't he will those?
He was still human-maybe if he had played as a pure forward, he would have been even more accurate, but as a centreman, he was regarded as a reliable kick for goal.

Miers shortstepped a few more contests against Nth. He's just not physical enough for AFL football, particularly when it comes to finals football.

I must have been watching a different game. Jezza made mince meat of Walker.

Good on him for playing a decade at the level but he's a battler.

Simpson has not played any VFL this year got concussed at training before season started.

Could have been a practice match? I’m sure he was close but suffered another knock...
But I could be wrong

Simpson hasn't played at any level this season - practice match or otherwise. The concussion was suffered at training, this is from March 10:

Midfielder Sam Simpson is also sidelined after he copped a head knock at training, with the Cats to give him time to recover.

Just watched the game on replay. Like Essendon in rd 1, North were pretty woeful, so it's hard to take too much out of it in terms where we are sitting this season. Other sides are not going to give us nearly as much space to find players on the outside with series of handballs that often as what happened in the first half.
Just gotta say - can't remember who it was prior to the game, said Kolodjashnij might be in for a break out game after being rested last week. Well, some of the tackles he stuck out there - even when the game was basically over - were unbelievable. Just looked like a man on a mission.
And what can I say about Tom Hawkins? The man just keeps getting better and better every game he plays. That was just such a complete performance.
Selwood - I haven't seen him that sharp in terms of his disposal for a long long time. Brought a big smile to my face. Strangely enough I feel like the crackdown on umpire dissent is actually really helping Joel. He looked so much more focused and measured out there than he has been in recent years, even when some things didn't go his way by the umps.

Love this post!

Selwood has been in our best 3 times already this year. He looks fit. Last year he battled through calf issues which was not public information at the time. He does look sharp. Some of his forward handballs yesterday really opened them up.

Kolo’s best game for the club. The tackling intent was the highlight. He’s vitally important this year as we lack depth in that position so here’s hoping he keeps going well and that he drops off the big footy whip list.

In regards to your first point. The cats will dominate some teams at stages this year. It’s system not luck. If we are good around the footy it gives our defensive 6 and really good shot at looking more offensive. Touhy, sdk, Atkins, Stewart can take up much more aggressive positions when we are on top. I just feel it’s system not luck as to why we have had two wins where we have made the oppo look very poor. Here’s hoping for more jez/Hawkins bags.

I'm intrigued to see whether this works out the way you're suggesting. Certainly seemed entirely focused on the footy and not getting frustrated against the Roos. But that'a always easier if you're getting on top and aren't caught up in a real scrap. Like you, though, I do hope that the crackdown helps him to focus each game on what he can control and expend less energy getting annoyed with umpires.

Yeah much easier against a wooden spoon team. Might be very different if we are being beaten by a contender, as we have seen with him in the past when frustration sets in.

I'm liking the umpire dissent rules for this exact reason. If there is/was one knock on Selwood and Hawkins from a leadership point of view, is that occasionally the body language and complaining to umpires set a bad example to the team in my opinion.

Fourth quarter fade out and performance for a second week in a row concerning.. Is it a fitness problem or something else?? If we get out done again the fourth next week against fremantle you have to really ask that question of our fitness team in taylor. We need to run out games strongly
It's not fitness, because we picked up again in the last 5 minutes of the fourth Q. It's purely that instinct to kill that is lacking, play too nice and get run over in finals. Same issue since 2013.

I remember hearing Cameron Ling talk about this - how it's a long season and you can do yourself a favour a few times in the season by really putting a team away - break their spirits by half or three quarter time and you can ease up toward the end.

Coach's votes for SDK's game. Maybe a sneaky chance at the RS nom this week?

North Melbourne v Geelong
10 Jeremy Cameron (GEEL)
8 Zach Tuohy (GEEL)
4 Joel Selwood (GEEL)
3 Sam De Koning (GEEL)
3 Tom Atkins (GEEL)
2 Cameron Guthrie (GEEL)

I saw that Scott says Kolo is best 22 and has been for years. True or not, i question the wisdom of coaches speaking thus. Hardly encourages the likes of Stevens who has played well consistently now in the VFL for a long time. One hopes we'll see him get a chance soon.

Our mid-field is just going; Sel was our best there even at his age, which doesn't say much for the others. New blood needed.

Odd take.

If Scott turns around and says Danger is in our best 22 does that mean Stephens, Knevitt etc should be disheartened?
No. Because every man, woman and child knows he's in our best half dozen players.

Your comment is skewed by subconsciously asserting into the conversation that you don't believe he is best 22 and thus the coach speaking as if he is should discourage others to improve and develop.

When in fact what we want is competitive individuals who use that to motivate them further to displace someone who is best 22. Someone who gets discouraged because the coach says someone in his position is best 22 is hardly someone we should want on the list.

Stanley stiff.

Even more contact shy than he was before his injury. Needs to show something soon or he will be overtaken.

Very surprising.

Cameron 5, 5
Tuohy 4, 4
Selwood 2, 2
De Koning 3
Atkins 3
Guthrie 1, 1

Funny, was told during the game Guthrie was rubbish. Both coaches clearly disagreed

I thought it was Guthrie's best game for the year.
Was a bit more aggressive in the contest and going forward.
Had 7 I50's and kicked a goal.
