We have goldstein next week. If we dont have stanley next week then we need sav. Cant have blicavs as sole ruck againdt goldstein. do people not remember the massacres goodstein has given blicavs in the ruck in multiple finals?

Rest of post was quite good.
I'm not advocating dropping Sav for any strategic benefit. I'm saying he couldn't play out the game tonight and given the short turn around to play North I think he'll have to rest. It's not something I'm pro actively advocating

From our great team of early 21st century we have shat the bed at any some of pressure in the Scott era.

This is what I’ll remember from the Scott era. From that 2013 prelim choke to tonight, that is synonymous with us under Scott. It is a record on repeat. It was a gallant effort tonight given our outs but it played EXACTLY to script.

We supporters see it. I’m dumbfounded the media have not caught on to it and actually put pressure on our coaching staff. And even more dumbfounded we have not fixed this critical issue for the better part of a decade.

Infuriating

The choking started one year earlier when we got smashed by freemantle in a victorian home final. Unheard of at that time. Then we did it again against freo in a final in 2013. This time in geelong.

Good effort. Happy with em!
Nic Nat goes allright.
As predicted the board has done a 180 degree turn on Blitz. But at least in this game we had no other option.
Have stuck up for them but I'm done with Kolo and maybe Sav unfortunately.
We've had to say Parfitt is good cause we traded Caddy for him. But he isn't.
Shame to focus on the negatives though. Cause it was really a positive performance and a good game.
Constable is good. Only 50% game time. Should of played him more when we were out on our feet.

That was a great effort. We were harder at the ball for most of the game and gave it a real crack. I’ve been critical of Scott a lot recently but seriously look at the players we had out tonight. On paper West Coast look about 6-10 goals better and we lost by 9 points. We also had a 4 day break coming off playing in horrible conditions and they play that wide ground very well. Not having a ruckman and bad errors in the 4th lost us the game. No harm in that. Their probably just about flag favourites and we nearly beat them on their home ground. I was at the game and honestly it was enormous effort we were clearly spent in the last quarter and didn’t give up. I think we have a chance this year if we keep that up.

Ratagolea cannot play next week
No ruckman again costs us against a decent side.

Ratugolea can have a spell. Rubbish.
Parfitt was utter crud. Tradebait.
I thought Sav played ok. Tackling was excellent. Made a couple of costly errors, and against Goldstein next week, will be tested again, but he's got to keep playing. If lack of effort was in question, sure, but blaming him is ridiculous.

Disappointing

but ...

... given 5 days turn around, against a white hot team on their home deck, with no ruck against one the best, and two of our best 5 players missing ... not devastating.

Exhaustion meant we couldn’t maintain the great 1st half effort in the 2nd.

Three things cost us the game -

  • Not having at least 2 fresh players in the team against a great running team on a big ground. No change was crazy IMO. Said it was going to hurt us after half time - and it did.
  • Predictable set plays cost us 3 or 4 goals. Cannot believe that obvious open channels were permitted for the NN shallow tap. And the failure of Bliz to put a body on Kennedy at the end - unforgivable.
  • Costly brain fades. Sav biggest culprit but there were others including by Constable, Guthrie.

Some good things -

  • Stewart back to old self
  • Meirs best game for long time
  • Constable looked good for most of the game, notwithstanding the odd clanger. Seems to be playing a Ling style tagger role.
  • in fact, all the young players showed something in the first half.

It was a commendable effort with the available players. Every team is trying to apply pressure, but it does seem to be a ‘known’ thing that we struggle to cope with it, and we fail repeatedly under serious heat. We seem to have good structure but the parts break down at times when the calibre of the individuals get exposed, skills and decision making not quite up to it.

Dangerfield - I almost find it insulting that he gets the focus in our team over Selwood. I see a player who’s career is slipping away and has never really regularly delivered on the bigger stages as a Cat, but still gets talked up as if he is a big game player who looks primed to “rip this game apart”, but doesn’t do it as often as we need when the stakes are high. I’d dearly love him to be that player, but I’m wondering whether it is time for a more permanent move forward. He isn’t defending well in the middle currently.

A witches hat.

I’ve had enough of Kolodjashnij

Does not do much, never creates or hurts the opposition and doesn’t do anything miraculous defensively.

A nothing player that is better served with developing a youngster or trying something different to benefit the team in the short, med or long term
Unfortunately kolo has been developed into a back shoulder plodder. That’s his role.

Unfortunately you’re correct. Jittery and nervous under pressure. Squad has been turned over , but same issues. Just like the ‘bye’ thing Scott doesn’t think History repeating as relevant
