I think with buddy coming in tippo will be playing that roughy role, part time rucking when pyke gets to rest up forward. Dunno how this is going to work out.

I actually feel a bit shitty with franklin coming over. We may have to change our whole game plan around him...

wowwee. Did anyone see this coming? Swans do it again. Bigfooty in meltdown mode in 3,2,1..Pretty sure now the COLA will be looked at. Eddie must be a nice shade of purple right now.

COLA was introduced for a good reason as the Swans lost top 5 draft picks in 1990's after a few years because Melbourne clubs raided our top draft picks.

Here is a list of a few players who disappeared and played 200+ games elsewhere:

Shannon Grant 58 games with Syd and 241 with North Melbourne
Anthony Rocca 22 games wth Syd and 220 with Collingwood
Darren Gasper 21 games with Syd and 207 with Richmond

McGuire can melt down but the Melbourne clubs are now on the other end of these deals.

I am finding all this Buddy talk distracting, I want to know who else we are chasing !

Wonder what was said behind closed doors at Hawthorn when they found out Buddy's desired destination ???

What will the Hawks move be, match the offer to make us trade for him?

it's a bit of a gamble on their part. If they match and play too hard, we can walk away and they have Buddy for 9 years. We do habe Mumford to give them, but if they demand pick 14 and another player, they risk being saddled with buddy for longer than they wanted. I rekon they will match, and a straight swap of mummy and upgrade of draft picks.

Hawthorn also issued a statement to say it had been informed that Franklin "has decided to explore his options under free agency".
The Hawks gave a strong indication they will not try to match Sydney's offer, saying "Hawthorn Football Club will continue to apply its established list management strategy that puts the needs and interests of the club first."

Mmmmmm I dunno, to me it seems that they will match it and try and force a trade.

Even Crawford said the Hawks offer was more than Gws and ours , I get the feeling they will match it and he will either stay or we will have to trade

We are a pretty fair club, will probably takes unders for mummy if they makes Franklins transfer straight forward.

It would be funny though if we took Franklin for free and traded Mummy to them for pick 20 or so. Just for laughs I am hoping for that.

We can't lose there.

If they match it, Hawthorn is locked into a 9 year 10 million dollar deal. They'll then have to delist a bunch of players, because they've made list decisions already. Great morale for the player group, suddenly delisting a bunch of guys so they can beat Sydney to keep a guy for 9 years who doesn't want to play for them. And they'll lose the compo pick.

If we decide not to trade, they're stuck with the deal, as matching our deal is a binding contract. Buddy would also have to agree to any other trade they proposed, and he'd be pretty annoyed, so might just say no.

Bottom line, matching our offer is very risky for them. I don't think they will, and will just take their compo pick and run. Then give it to us for Mumford.

Disagree punts, all the rhetoric I have seen from the HFC is that they know Buddy wants to leave and I don't think they will stand in his way, lets be honest if there offer was highest of all and he wanted to stay then he would have already resigned and not let it go to FA. They are smart enough to let it happen and ensure good will with the Swans so as to get an easy trade with us for Mumford who they want.

Hawthorn must have thought they were so clever trying to poach Mumford all year, not knowing they've done us a huge favour in freeing up salary cap space for Buddy. Thanks Hawthorn:thumbsu:
Actually I don't remember the context but I remember on AFL360 it was mentioned that they believe that mid season when it was first mooted that we may make a play for Buddy that the Swans had notified the Hawks of there intent so it's conceivable that this is when they may have decided to heavily pursue Mumford as all the talk previously was that Mummy was the target of GWS, could it be that we have screwed the Giants over twice first in getting buddy from under their noses and secondly by letting Hawthorn target their other key target in Mumford.

Just hope we dont lose everitt. Had his most productive year this season and with a few retirements will be a key part of our future. Keen for him to stay. Lamb, although disappointing that he may leave, is not so much of a loss in my opinion. Plenty of his type coming up through the ranks anyway. White has been terrible until this year. He can go. Mummy is going to be a dissapointing loss but I think we can cover him for 1 swasob if we have too. Hopefully buy the year after next, nasmith will be coming trough.

I would love us to draft Harrison Marsh's more talented brother. We would utterly win the lottery if he was available at our 2nd round pick, I'd be completely and utterly stunned. Very fast player with good size, very dangerous.
