Gold Coast after Hurley

so Michael Hurley's "management" only has Hurley on their books????? the management could have gone to talk about anyone on their books, as Hurley wouldnt be the only player they have. Hurley doesnt have a management team solely dedicated to him. Just more of a story to include Hurley's name.

there is more and more of this type of journalism around. there is nothing in the article. just facts are twisted to tell a story where isnt one.

Given the strength of the 2008 draft, and that they will all come out of contract in 2010, you would think anyone and everyone from that draft will be a target. Two years in the system, would be just about perfect for GC.

I'm just pleased that North Melbourne have no decent young talent for them to target and that we rely entirely on a heap of over 30s. ;)

Richmond have been tanking to stop anyone being looked at :D:thumbsu:

What a shame that L&L retired, and that we traded Lovett, and McPhee left. Tragedies.

Oh how terrible it will be that we'll have a big chunk of spare salary cap to deal with this.

Problem is just like the other 15 clubs any spare money in the salary cap needs to be spread around - you certainly can't direct it all to one player or you will have discord in the ranks. GC & WS on the other hand don't have any such restrictions.

In rugby league players and coaches agree to terms with new clubs in the following year yet continue to play/coach. Why would it be different in the AFL? If Ablett Jnr agrees to play for GC in 2011, will Geelong play him in 2010 if they're a crack at the premiership? Of course?

Just because it happens in the NRL doesn't mean it's a good thing ..............

Like I've said, this is an awesome way for GC to earn the antagonism of every other club's supporters.

Is that what they really want as a new organization? It's going to make life difficult if/when they run into financial difficulties and need to grovel to the AFL for handouts, something I believe the other clubs would have in approving?

All i know is that we ALL need to be concerned......from the cats to the dee's....all clubs are going to suffer pain for this grand plan...:o

Even if this is true, I highly doubt he will move to GC because...

1. Why move away from his home state to move to a completely different state.
2. Essendon have a lot of salary cap space.

for your first point, the answer is money. he could potentially be a "franchise player" also.

plus theres the fact that everyone over here, especially the media associate him with kicking taxi drivers in the balls. doubt the gold coast press would be so interested in that. then theirs the fact that last time i spoke to him he didn't have a gf, he doesn't really see his old high school mates much, which is worse because of the taxi incident. then the real icing on the cake... he didn't extend his contract which means he is either money hungry or open to suggestions. even goald coast local dayne beams got a contract extention.

Just gotta cross your fingers and pray it happens to another club.

How much bs can one person spin in one post. :o

You would think that the club has plans in place for Hurley becoming the next big marquee player at Essendon so i'm not really worried about him.

What's the contract status of Dempsey, anybody know? He might be a target given that he is a Gold Coast lad.

No, he's not a GC lad. Although he is a Queenslander, he's from the northern bits. But I agree he'll be a target.

Dempsey is from Cairns.

Actually Bellamy dropped a young kid from the Storm for the year because he signed for the Titans and Bellamy wasn't very happy about it.

But yes, in general I accept the premise that players would continue to see out their contracts at their current clubs.

However, while I understand why clubs like GC need to start recruiting early, it should be kept quiet...the world where players announce in round 12 that they're leaving the following year is not one I'd like.

Sorry i meant to say Queensland, not GC.

I know he was born in Cairns but he did spend a lot of his younger years going to school and playing footy in Brisbane which is pretty close to the Gold Coast.

Because (a) we have no cap space and (b) now that Ryder, Pears are tied up Hurls isn't our number one priority. Not a chance in the world of happening.

i doubt he will go. gawd the have gone fishing haven't they. the only players that they will pick up from each club will be. the fringe players. i highly doubt junior ablett will go there. snr ablett is more likely to want to suit up. from what i have heard, with nathan's playing weeks at broady

Dempsey signed a three year contract near the end of the season. :thumbsu:
