Autopsy Hawks: 30 minutes not enough for 4 points...

Let me take this one for Shakey who is at AAMI Park.

Junk time goals mate. We fought out a game that was done against wounded opposition that let us back.

Indisputably. Whenever you get 50 points behind they pretty much all become junk time goals. You can go on and lose by 100 or at least try to salvage something. And last year we got ran over and the carnage continued all game.

Shocking start. North took their foot off the gas aiding our comeback.

Positives were we didn’t drop our heAds and blowout. Plenty to learn from this experience.

What more does Lewis have to do to come in? Has to replace TOB who should be running the water for our kids at City oval, if we were deadset we'd be sending Chip with him. Jono had 36 yesterday, has to come in.

Agreed.

It's great that the 5 blokes having a go kept plugging away, but I don't think we were a genuine chance of winning at any stage after 15 minutes.

Clarko should be using these games to decide who the next 2-2-2 are and leadership group in 2019.

My questions stand though.

Our forward entries were the same, despite not having those 2 to apply forward pressure.

And what exactly will we learn from the loss & do differently?

What did we learn from all our losses in 2005 and 2006 seasons when we were developing and getting thrashed every weekend? Or what did we learn in 2009 and 2010 when we were underperforming and losing to teams that we were expected to beat? We must have learned something from them because the end result of both those periods was premierships.

We have very good reasons to trust that our coaching fraternity is learning plenty from every game we play. Especially the ones that go awry.

28,981 crowds today, thank you for those suggesting to get a GA ticket instead of the reserved tickets.

Positive: the comeback, was still believe we can get much closer. So that's a good one.

Negative: Frawley :(. I don't like potting player but he's been bad lately. I love his effort last week but the Tigers game and today, can we play Brand instead?

We need a Forward that can take a mark. Mitchell Lewis / Ryan Schoenmaker for O'Brien?

Anyway not really sad with the loss, It's a long season, regroup and go Hawks.

This might be true and I'm hardly a fan of Shoey but we don't have many options. At least he has proved in the past he can be a role player in a good team. TOB has really done zip.

Mitch Lewis is 198-199cm, takes contested marks, can relieve in the ruck and has kicked no less than 3 goals in all his VFL games. He has reach, he can jump, just lacks a big tank but I friggin well know he'll give more than TOB.

Wasn't a 'foot off the gas' thing - was a 'down two players on the bench and our young players were spent' thing.

Genuinely thought the Hawks were gonna steamroll us in the 4th quarter. Happy to win. Would have been much tougher with Cyril/Puopolo though.

Cheers

We have one of the best marking players in the comp. Whenever I post on here how to make the most of his marking I get ridiculed. So I am not going to say any more about it and leave it to the real experts who believe short people win games.

It doesn't matter, he will be sat on his arse by clarko Next Week regardless. Couldn't care less.

I heard Burns on Grandstand pre game that Burton received a significant knock to the ankle in round 1 and that he was still playing sore but that it had also impacted on his confidence based on the serious injury that occurred a few years bad - car crash bad.

I heard reiwoltd speak today on JOM and that his improved form is not due to his knee being better but recognising that this is as good as it’s going to be and changing his mindset - this is also what burton needs to do

Think we need to take a collective deep breath here......

We are still a work in progress. We are going to see these type of disappointing, frustrating and downright annoying performances from time to time .
Its not Hawthorn 2012-2015 anymore. We have a host of young kids finding there way , they will be up and down . Guys new to system learning how to play alongside each other . That brings inconsistency.
A little patience is required . We've shown great improvement from early last season .

Put 2 of Burgoyne , Rioli, Puopolo and Birchall in that line up and how much better do we look ? We are missing some decent quality

3rd quarter was fantastic , we were one goal away from seriously getting them nervy but we ran out of petrol tickets

1st half was abysmal . Kudos to North they smashed us , were hungry and taught us a lesson . They aren't exactly a team of just kids either , have 6-8 hardened experienced players .

This could be a needed reality check for the group and maybe some of us supporters

Get him in post haste.

Wasting our t time with Shoey & O'Brien neither are the answer.

I was there today and had a really good view of the game. This really was a game of two halves. I felt we were out coached in the first half and the game was played on Norths terms. When this happens, like the Richmond game, we just seem to kick the ball long to a contest. North set up so well we couldn't create any run, so really all credit to North. I think it was 57 - 28 marks in favour of North at half-time.

If we somehow managed to be 5 goals down at the half, we win this game and would be sitting pretty at 4-1. We dominated the clearances in the second half, pressure was up and we created turnover and spread. Unfortunately, early in the last we didn't capitalise on the first 10 minutes and that was the game. Disappointing result.

The most disappointing part of today for me was Burton. I watched him closely and can honestly say he was lazy and selfish. He didn't shepherd and he chased half assessed. I think he was dropped to Box Hill because of his defensive efforts and perhaps it wasn't the best idea to bring him straight back after one game.
