Both Battle & Serong limped off but didn’t look bad.
Think I saw Serong back out there.
Someone posted that Battle was also back out there but I didn’t see him
Battle definitely went back on

I see Chol won the ā€˜Bigfooty Hawks Whipping Boy Sweepstakes’ for 2025.

He’s not the whipping boy. The expectations of him are not unreasonable.

He’s in a position to cause a huge influence on the game. And we really need someone to make an impact in the KPF spot. The frustrations are the opportunities narrowly and frequently missed. We know what he’s good at and he’s very good that with those attributes. Defensive pressure. Flying at a contest to disrupt the ball.

But the small bits he lacks, clunking a mark every now and then as well as contesting for forward space, are particularly lacking in that KPF spot. I know there’s no one else that can do it better. Doesn’t mean we don’t need it and he falls just frustratingly short of delivering the goods in those ways.

...But whatever that snap was needs to go lol
The bloke on the mark charged at him though, should have been 50.
He's like the 2025 version of Calsher, McCabe.
A lot to like out of that game. Dominated the clearances especially when Meek was playing, just need another tall or two in the forward line.

Can't wait to see Chol line up with Dear and Lewis.

He's actually done really well whenever Lewis has played.

Q4. We go down by 20 points. Didn’t really get out of first gear in the first half, and were only within reach because Geelong missed so much. Blitzed them in the third, then took our best players off and messed with structures in the fourth.

  • Day / Newcombe played three quarters and look to be a deadly combination. Day kicked 2.2.
  • Worps kicking into the 50 was pretty good.
  • Meek looks primed.
  • Mackenzie impressive. Class was on show and seems to be stronger.
  • Chol provided a lot of contests but dropped a few too many marks. Still a good game.
  • Battle looked great. Will fit in nicely.
  • Sicily played forward after HT but never got out of fourth first gear.
  • Lacked a lot of rebound from half-back. To be expected with the omissions.
  • Ward does some nice things but isn't a natural winger. Looks better in the guts but a lot of competition.
  • Mraz (back), McCabe (forward) took multiple strong contested marks in the fourth.
  • Bodie Ryan some nice moments in the fourth.
  • Weddle's role with so many other talls down back seemed a bit awkward. Liked him when resting forward after rucking.
EDIT: Maginness was used like a Swiss Army knife. Kicked two good goals in the first half, then was moved back to cover Sicily, then spent time on a wing. I thought he had a good game.

"He's not a whipping boy" - then lays out exactly why he is a whipping boy.

I watched from the start of the second. For mine:

Positives:
Frenchie (our best), Battle, Day, Newk, Worpel, Meek, Finn and Morrison were good. Ward was a mixed bag but more good than bad.

Moore, Weddle, Chol and CMac had some good patches.

Our stoppage work was pretty sharp and some of the transition from defence was Hok at its best.

Ryan, Reeves, HH, Mraz and McCabe did some good things in limited time.

Can’t be too harsh in a non-official pre season game. Defensive setup was average against the high ball. Barrass and Sicily back there for a whole game will help. Small defender spot is up for grabs. Maybe Ryan is a round 1 smokey.

No injuries is the real win.

Nice hit out. Nothing too concerning as we were blowing out the cobwebs.

Battle the standout, so composed and will be a good addition.

Frenchy looks super composed and reliable.

And Day is just elite. Really held the midfield together when we were struggling.

Ginni was basically unsighted and Worpel made a few too many errors but was at least heavily involved.

Not much to dislike other than the slow start.

We now have hokball every week until the bye from now on!

Reckon Impey, Amon, Barrass, Massimo (covering back) and Sicily taking things seriously will help out the backline. We looked a bit disorganised because there were a lot of our depth players there.
