Opinion How is Taylor Walker viewed by neutrals?

His teammates clearly don't have a problem with him, including indigenous boys.

Maybe they know him better than you and don't judge him by one word in a private conversation.

Kinda GIF

Glad this thread was made.

I've come full circle.

Thought he was a tosser 10ish years ago.

Thought his 2017 GF speech and the subsequent fall of the club made him look like a crap captain etc.

But in the last few years I couldn't be more full of admiration for an oppo player. Gives 110% every week, massive leader, beautiful field and goal kick, and ageing like a fine wine. Hats off to him. Possibly we both grew up a bit.

He's the best kick I've seen if you factor in field kicking, goal kicking, and opposite foot kicking. A smart and powerful KPF, he's won Adelaide plenty of games off his own boot.
His legacy will always be tarnished somewhat by the racism incident unfortunately.

Granted I don't watch as much neutral footy these days.

I always considered Jack Riewoldt a brilliant kick, both feet, for goal or field, and very intelligent to go with it. Clearly nowhere near the physical presence of Taylor, but he could jump to compensate.

These days when I watch Taylor playing and doing field kicks it reminds me of Jack just for the sheer quality of it.

Far better kick than Riewoldlt.

Even if we forget the racist remarks, I don't think he will be remembered all that much over time, other than by Adelaide supporters. He was a good forward, but he's not one of the great forwards. His head will pop up from time to time, and you'll be like, "Oh yeah, he exists." I don't think he's ever even won a Coleman? No premierships. He's got a stack of goals, been consistent but that's about it. If he can stick around for a few more years, maybe snag a premiership, crack into that top echilon of total goal scorers who knows? He's 35 though so I wouldn't hold my breath.

That is a good summary for how I expect Tex to be remembered. Important to Adelaide history/lore, not so much the AFL's.

When it comes down to it, he is missing some of the accolades needed for a HOF career which puts him in the Sav Rocca tier.

Obviously not a neutral and just with reference to on field performance. I think he is underrated by most, a true CHF that goes at more goals per game than the push in the back merchant full forward Tom Hawkins, and same goals per game as the other 'great' contemporary full forward Jack Riewoldt... but didn't play in Vic sooo....

There is context.
Yelling to a players face when he is playing is one thing, saying it to someone in a a private conversation that was overheard by someone and reported is another.
He wasn't at the fence screaming it out to him, he didn't post it on his social media.
If one player is talking to his brother at home and called someone "ghay" or the like, should he be banned from playing for two years?

He got Six Weeks (plus two pre season games) and a 20k fine.
Barry Hall only got Seven.
Seems a fair punishment for a bad comment made to a friend on the sidelines of a SANFL match.
1. I never specified the context of his actions so I can't be wrong with what I said.
2. You can put aside your understandable club bias and see it for what it is. As fans have done with Thomas, Balta and Bruhn.
3. I am highlighting the very large and unfair disconnect between how the behaviour is treated for players and fans.

If you think what he got as punishment is fair that's fine, but the sanction for fans should also then be much more lenient. But it won't be because leniency, just like inconsequential fines on miniscule value for streaking, will only lead to drunken gronks behaving poorly in the stands more frequently.

So based on that I think he got off light. It needs to be more substantial to show that players are held to account just like fans are. Aliir Aliir having what looked like paper/cardboard hurled in his direction saw a young patron given a two year ban.

Two years for paper. 6 weeks for racist remarks.
It's out out of kilter.

Never liked him since the Adelaide camp scandal
Tex didn't have anything to do with making the camp up.
He was just another player that had to attend it.
The camp was the bright idea of the Birdman and his his mates at Collective Minds.
After the intervention worked so well for the Cats, everyone though this was the way to get results.

Tex is a legend, great player, elite kicking and footy smarts. Probably his last year of AFL footy. He will be missed at the Crows.
Haters gunna hate.

2 goals as a key forward in a side whose midfield got well beaten is invisible is it? Yeah righto champ.

When one of them comes at 40 points down with 20 minutes to play it’s probably not that meritorious, and they only lost inside 50s by 9, not like it was 20 or something

Nonetheless one game is not necessarily reflective of every game a player has ever played either

Along with Shaun Rehn and Andy Mcleod as my favourite Crows players of all time.
If he'd landed at Port we probably win a Premiership in his time as a quality forward of his kind is what we've lacked.

Imagine the extra fawning if he played for Geelong?
Yes,great player but we have to shield ourselves for the Dangerfield Naicos mayo fests by the boy's club media.
