Would Judd have gone at No. 3 in the 2001 draft if he wasn't victorian?? At the time he had shoulder problems, but he had the chance to play where more recruiters were able to see him.
I do ask this as a serious question, but it is similarly rated to this years draft. This year, there are a number of West Aussie boys who look the real deal, who led them to the Under 18 Championships. Would the fact that these players play in WA, away from the eyes of the melbourne media, and the main proportion of clubs have an effect on where they are drafted???

2 of the last 3 No.1 draft picks didn't come from Vic so no it has no effect if someone is good enough they will get noticed no matter where they are from.

i think the impact of hype should not be underestimated.

recruiters will look at whomever has the hype surrounding them. its the idea the eagles have put to use so well- these young blokes aren't being 'hidden in the country' as melbourne people have often suggested, there just isn't the hype surrounding them.

recruiting officers are the most over rated people in the game, because they'll only look at people who they're being told to look at.

best example from last year- jack riewoldt. i saw plenty of him play, and there is no way known that he should have been a first round pick. so why was he? hype!

The main hype surrounding him was about his name though... He showed a bit this week..

No probably more like...Richmond!

Bryce Gibbs was from Adelaide, I remember now. Not everyone that is good gets noticed though.. Dean Cox anyone??

and Cox was playing footy that should have been noticed before he was drafted?

Judging potential is one hard thing, but hindsight certainly helps:rolleyes:
