to find the words to thank Sheedy and Hird for their contribution to the Essendon Football Club.

I'm not sure it is, as I was driving to work this morning I was trying to comprehend the amount of passion and emotion these two have installed into our supporters and they hatred they've driven into opposition supporters. The amount of extra bums these two have put on seats, the revenue they've generated, the players and lives they've made better.

Yep, it's only footy. But sometimes footy has a way of enriching us all.
For some it unites family and friends, for others it's simply a medium of entertainment. For some of us, some of our fondest memories are centred around EFC and Kevin Sheedy and James Hird.

The game will go on, the club will go on and I'm looking forward to seeing the legacy these have left behind drive us forward.

It's sad that the careers of these two are coming to an end, but we're all better for having them at our club.

Thanks Kev, thanks Jim.

I've thought about this too.

Wouldn't it be great if we made the finals and gave them both a send off in front of a jam-packed MCG.

They don't deserve to have their last game together at Subiaco.

Hopefully the players feel the same way.

Awesome post, you've gone some way of putting my feelings into words, although that would be impossible to do true justice to them...

I can barely comprehend these two will be out of my life in 6-8 weeks time. It's shattering, and yet all you can do is celebrate the impact they've had, the difference they've made; and delight in the fact we've been blessed to have them as a part of our lives.

Kevin and James, you've been such an unbelievable part of my life. You magnificent bastards

You're not wrong, seeing the little highlights package some sports programs are putting up, watching Sheedy and the jacket wave. The time we lost the 96 PF and Sheedy's steely determination walking around the playing group straight after. Watching Hird's elation when he lifts the premiership cup with the boys, when he hugged the bloke after the West Coast game. Or both men's efforts in the Anzac Day matches. Of course many more.

It's memories like these you store away and sort of take for granted. When you see them again it stirs up so much emotion, so much inspiration, that now, when you realise that you won't see another moment like it, brings so much more meaning to it, and also an element of sadness.

It really won't kick in how much I'll miss them until they're gone, but it's going to be tough not seeing Sheedy walk down from the box or Hirdy not going through the banner. Thanks guys.

Dont know about the hatred part. I really admire both Sheedy and Hird for their contributions to both the Essendon football club and the AFL in general. The game needs more people like these two gentlemen. As you have said, it's only footy, but I will certainly miss them both. Looking forward to coming down for the round 21 game against Richmond to see off these 2 legends of the game. :thumbsu:

Hird leaving was bad enough but now Sheedy...I've got no idea how I'll react. It will be so sad, but I'll also feel so lucky to be an Essendon supporter and having grown up with these 2 Legends of the game. Probably my 2 favourite people in football.

I would be beyond proud if we could somehow forge our way into the 8 and somehow get an MCG final.

Great post, football plays a huge part in many lives, wether it be country football or the big stuff. Sheedy and Hird have given me so much entertainment over the years that there are no words to explain it.

The way Hird has played the game is amazing. The consistency in which he has played his football. I will never forget the Bombers of 2000. Thanks to Sheeds and Hirdy

nice longy

Dont know about the hatred part.

As Essendon supporters, one thing we can always take away from any season, good or bad, is that we are generally hated by the larger football community.

It's actually a pleasure and an honor to support a club that stirs up so much emotion in not just our own supporters, but in opposition supporters as well.

People don't necessarily hate Hird and Sheedy, but they hate Essendon Football Club. Hird and Sheedy are in a large way, responsible for that.

Impossible. Even 2 minute highlight reels of each of them can leave you're eyes watery and they have done so much more than that.

God knows where we would be without them, can't thank them enough, thank's for the memories Kev and James.

not having a go at you but i reckon i could find 2 days worth of footage for each.

I think you misunderstood what he was implying, he was saying that a 2 minute clip of Hird and Sheeds achievments for our club will leave you watery.

It's true, even now when i watch Hird's best of video for his farewell dinner i get the odd tear.
