dickster you need to fix your quoting but your probably right in that it's the media scrutiny that would get to a guy like Lockett.
Sorry mate im still new to this, but ill try and workout how to fix my quoting thing.

We should debate if Hodge or judd is better next, thats never been done as far as i know
Plugger spent good chunks of his career carrying crap teams. Look at the years he played in good teams and he had some of the most dominant goal kicking seasons in history. Did also win a Brownlow into the bargain.
Dunstall played with some of the greatest players of the era. Lockett dreamed of playing in a similar squad. The closest he got was playing in the Vic squad.
Watch how he dominated with Ablett up forward
Agree. I think he would be good in this era but not dominantDunstall was a way better defensive player, a very good tackler and chaser. The first full forward I can recall doing this consistently. It is now standard practice.
He was a great competitor so of course you can point to some excellent plays at ground levelLol at Dunstall not being a threat at ground level. Ever seen his goal where he turned bruce doull inside out in a grand final? Or his goal at the whitten oval where he controlled the ball on the ground making doug Hawkins look stupid?
Dunstall gets pidgeon holed as a lead out take a mark kick a goal player which is just unfair. Easily the best player ive ever seen.

Monkhurst had one really good year when he was one of the favorites. Merret played for a long time after his best. You may have forgotten that for a few years at essendon he was considered the best CHF around. Two names which jumped right out: roger Merrett. Damian monkhurst. Wow.

But he didn't dominate in that area his big trick was great acceleration and perfect timing of leads into space. I don't think his skill set would make him great in this era.
I'm pretty sure I've seen comparisons that have had Kernahan ahead.
You know that video might just explain why Derek Kickett looks the way he does these days
You sure would have. I've seen a few scribes or ex-players who put Kernahan ahead, but he didn't have the aura of Dermie among fans. Sheehan for example had Sticks at no.33 in his best 50 players of all-time; Dermie didn't even make the 50. Kernahan is one of those players underrated by footy fans it seems, while his peers etc seem to rate him much higher than fans generally do.
Wayne Carey, Glenn Archer, James Hird, Shane Crawford, Stephen Kernahan, Mike Sheehan are just a few of the football personalities that rate Dunstall higher than Lockett for example.
Lol at Dunstall not being a threat at ground level. Ever seen his goal where he turned bruce doull inside out in a grand final?
What has that got to do with individual achievements? Imagine how many goals Lockett would of kicked at Hawthorn? 1800 would of been possible.Damn there's a lot of Hawk envy on here. You'd prefer one grand final appearance over 4 flags from 7 grand final appearances, in a team sport? Nice troll....
What stats exactly? Lockett has a higher average of goals per game and Ablett as a full forward has a far higher average. Both also played in inferior sides and didn't get anywhere near the supply. Both kicked numerous bags of 10 plus in sides that we're getting beaten. I doubt Dunstall ever did.Based on stats Dunstall is the greatest full forward to ever play the game. He is ahead of Gary Ablett and everyone else.
Yep, and yet Dermott has 5 flags to his name and Sticks has 2. This is the entire original point. You sure would have. Read the original question before you comment. It was 'whose career would you rather have, in a team sport?'.What has that got to do with individual achievements? Imagine how many goals Lockett would of kicked at Hawthorn? 1800 would of been possible.
