Thought McGrath, Langford and towards the end Laverde were good.
Ridley & Francis too. Kids are smooth and classy. Im no longer nervous for Hurley or Hooker retiring one day. They find spots under pressure sooner rather than later.

For the blues, whoever doubts me that they suit up for us.....watch them get pantsed the next game.
Walsh, Cripps, Dow and Setterfield are gonna keep their fans happy for a while. Even if they don't win a lot of games.

Shithouse, embarrassing and appalling. All words that can be used to describe that rubbish, so bad that Lore hasn't even bothered with the review thread yet. (I now see the match day has become an autopsy) My player summaries below, think I've been fairly accurate.

1. Andrew McGrath - What a waste of a #1 pick, bobbed up late for a few cheapies.
2. Tom Bellchambers - Unsighted, our ruck division is absolutely ****ed.
3. Darcy Parish - The least talented Hanson brother just floated around the field.
4. Kyle Langford - Been reading his player thread to much, needs to go back to basics.
5. Devon Smith - Where was he when the game was on the line in the first half?
6. Joe Daniher - Didn't kick 10, horrendous at CHF get Davey in to teach him.
7. Zac Merrett - We delisted the wrong brother.
9. Dylan Shiel - Played our best footy with him on the bench. Should've got Wingard.
10. Aaron Francis - Still no brownlow, whens it going to click for this bloke.
11. David Zaharakis - Played better on drugs.
12. Mark Baguley - Looked good in the back pocket, I think he's going to reinvent himself down back.
14. Jordan Ridley - eth-dog thought he played well. I'll say no more.
15. Jayden Laverde - Number change confused me, switch back please.
18. Michael Hurley - The Samson of the team, bring back the ponytail.
20. Zac Clarke - Played worse than Bellchambers.
21. Dyson Heppell - Is it to late for Aaron to grow his hair so we can switch?
25. Jake Stringer - Showboating flog, use your hands don't just free swing from mid air.
28. Mitch Brown - Seems to have totally lost his ability since coming over from the Eagles.
29. Paddy Ambrose - Was solid enough, still fighting Hartley for the last spot but I like his hair better.
34. Jake Long - When he beckoned for a player to come he looked like his Dad. 10 year deal.
35 - Matt Guelfi - Laverde's number change made me think he was Laverde, should be ok after Laverde switches back.
36. Michael Hartley - Shit hair. Delist.
42. Adam Saad - Easily the best right foot kick on our team
43. Tippa - If I said anything mean I'd have to punch myself in the face, I love he's pushing more up the ground.
44. Shaun McKernan - Great 4 quarter effort.
45. Connor McKenna - Makes Michael Quinn look like Jim Stynes.
46. Tom Jok - I agree with Todd Davey "he has something."

Go on someone tell me Ridley isnt in our best 22 for round 1?

Best: Ridley and Tipungwuti (Dont bother about the rest)

Was a pretty disappointing game for us. Maybe not scratchy against an opposition whereas the blues had one but still saw alot of what we saw start of 2018. Carlton made us look pathetic.

Players looked extremely frustrated again and that showed with body language and some frees given away... talking on the phone looked like we didnt have answers. Woosha shaking his head ect

Its only early but i just feel right now were behind a bottom 3 side in the comp.

We looked very very slow. Langford cant play midfield looking that slow the new rules wont allow it.

Good to see everyone’s had a strong preseason working on their post game meltdowns.

Pre season game where we cared for about 15mins, minimal effort shown. We’ll be fine.

What when Carlton stopped playing because they were so far ahead in a preseason game?

Lets not beat around the bush we were ordinary tonight. Slow and lethargic. No doubt the intensities off a little but body language showed enough from enough players that we cared more than the performance aligned to.

Carlton were dismantled by the hawks last week

I hope its because we were one practice game behind them in vsing an opposition

With the way we started last year youd think we would show a bit more endeavour. Last year we looked that bad in preseason aswell and it translated to early season proper

I did say in my prediction that Carlton having had the practice match vs Hawks might be a little bit more ready than us. Certainly in the first quarter I thought that was the case. It took us a while to find touch in the middle. Overall I'm pretty neutral to the result and didn't see anything that really worries me but nor did I see anything that really excites me. Though I will comment on individual players below I do acknowledge that its very early days and there may yet be hope for our players.

On some individuals, McGrath, Tippa and Stringer played good games and I think they will all improve from last year, in particular McGrath who is ready to be a bonofide midfielder this year. McKenna, Saad and Hurley all looked good in their usual way. Super positive that Daniher got through a good 3 quarters and just seemed fit and healthy out there!

Mitch Brown did his round 1 chances no harm today. Jok didn't do that much but I really like the way he moves. Ridley would be a good chance for round 1 (kind of natural though with his competition all injured) but he got the ball a lot, though he could be more tidy than he was today. I didn't think Zac Clarke was that great but his stats are actually pretty good so I think maybe I was a bit harsh and he certainly got better as the game progressed. Long, Ambrose and Hartley all seem up against it, particularly Long who I don't expect to play more senior games for us unless we have a lot of injuries to small defenders. Hartley was the best of the lot but I dunno I just can't seem to get on the Hartley train, he always makes dumb mistakes that frustrate me.

I wasn't overly excited by Parish, Langford or Laverde. Parish seemed to be in a lot of centre bounces but didn't manage to get his hands on it all that much. He'd want to perform a lot better when the real stuff starts. Langford did gradually work into it but he was a bit off and just doesn't seem to have the physical presence we wish he had. Laverde didn't do enough but we'll see how he goes with a full game next time.

Hartley is having a very ordinary night. Not in round one calculations, nowhere near.

Hartley was the talisman for the night.

I can handle mistakes, they really don't concern me, it's the way we effortlessly revert to form.

Hartley played as though it was February 2018. Not even a small glimpse of the really significant improvement he made last year was on display.

Every rational part of me says it's just pre-season, and I know that to be true, BUT crushed in the midfield by Carlton with 1 genuine A grader? 3 of the mosquito fleet hanging off Cripps in the middle? Langford playing forward for substantial parts of the game? Only looked threatening off half back? Even if we had injuries, I thought that we were supposed to run a deep midfield? I couldn't help but notice fairly startling similarities to February 2018.

They're all thing to keep a look out for in the next month.

What do they say? "We need to get straight into to playing the way we want to play."

Yikes.
