THE future of Melbourne rising star Tom Scully could be a lot clearer later this week when his management team meets with Demons officials.
Scully’s managers Peter Blucher and Alastair Lynch from Velocity Sports are expected to hold discussions with Demons chief executive Cameron Schwab and list manager Tim Harrington in Melbourne.
Speculation will intensify leading into the crucial meeting that Scully is leaning strongly toward signing a new deal with Melbourne and turning his back on a massive contract with new AFL outfit Greater Western Sydney.
The potentially brilliant left-footer is high on the Giants recruiting hit-list.
Scully is believed to have already been offered in the region of $4million to take a five-year deal with the Giants at $800,000 a season.
Velocity management had been due to hold discussions on Scully’s future with Demons officials last week.
But Velocity and Lynch in particular were heavily engaged for much of the week in the dramatic sacking of another of their top clients Brendan Fevola from the Brisbane Lions.
Velocity’s Victorian-based agent Mark Kleiman left the company early into February to take a football director’s job with top Melbourne radio station 3AW, which further stalled Scully talks on his future.
Scully, just 19, is out of contract at the end of the 2011 after just his second season in AFL ranks after he was the prized number one pick at the 2009 national draft.
He has been the prime poaching target for GWS recruiting gun Graeme Allan and Giants list manager Stephen Silvagni.
But the Giants scouts are believed to be resigned to missing out on winning Scully’s signature to join the new team next season, which will be coached by AFL legend Kevin Sheedy.
