I think the only change for next week, will be Heath Shaw in and Nathan Brown out. Nathan needs a full game in the seconds and get some confidence back. Maybe playing Nathan at Centre half forward.

The rest of the team, I suggest picks themselves. O'Brien should cover Lucas and Presti will match up on Lloyd well.

B: Shaw - Prestigiacomo - Cox
HB: Clarke - O'Brien - Toovey
C: Lockyer - Swan - Barham
HF: Didak - Cloke - Thomas
F: Medhurst - Rocca - Anthony
FL: Fraser - Pendlebury - Davis
INT: Beams - O'Bree - Goldsack - L. Brown

But you've got Rocca in that team

Rocca didn’t have a good game, but he needs game time. However, if by some miracle Dawes/Reid kick a large amount of goals in the seconds, then I suggest the forward line will need to be reshuffled.

Easy selection for next week;

In: Shaw, Bryan/Wood

Out: L.Brown N.Brown/Goldsack

Josh Fraser will be run into the ground if we continue to ruck him one out, and the next few weeks after Essendon, all sides have 2 rucks (Nth, StKilda and even Carlton).

Time to bring back a 2nd ruck, Leigh Brown is good for backup, but not as a 2nd ruck, only as backline relief.

In: H Shaw, Sidebottom (assuming McCarthy is not right)
Out: Toovey, L Brown

Shaw is an automatic selection, and I would bring in another midfielder against the Dons. I would love for it to be McCarthy, but I don't think he will be right. Malthouse knows Sidebottom is a big game payer, and doesn't shield players from this game.

Toovey makes way because there is no real matchup for him - Essendon don't really have a dangerous offensive mdifielder or medium forward. L Brown comes out too. He is not offering enough in the ruck to justify his selection. If we are going to use someone for just 5 minutes a quarter to chop out Fraser, I would rather it came from the current team. Possibly try Nathan Brown in this role - we know he is running well from his preseason form, and Essendon don't have too many tall forwards that we need him permanently down there. Either this or bring in Bryan, who offers more when off the ball in the forward line.

We were too top heavy last night,

The game was won by the smalls. So get more smalls in. I thought we nearly cost ourselves at the seletion table by naming 10 talls in the wet.

Rocca, Cloke and Anthony were non-influential...whilst Goldsack and Nathan Brown had no roles. But i thought our 3 talls forwards gave us a lot of structure that brought Medhurst and Davis right into it.

Leigh Brown was ordinary but he was handy as a backup down back. Was killed in the ruck. But Bryan and Wood cannot defend...so Leigh Brown has an edge there. We also don't need another forward so Bryan is not needed there. Leigh Brown will hold his spot.

I reckon drop 2 tall defenders.

Out: Nathan Brown, Goldsack
In: Sidebottom, Heath Shaw (if ready) otherwise Stanley.

Our smalls won the game last night.

mattys123;14224858Josh Fraser will be run into the ground if we continue to ruck him one out said:
Fraser's getting another longer break this week so I think they might keep that structure, except I think Hille is probably the opponent he plays the worst, though Hille's form is just so-so at the moment.

But no place for Nathan Brown in this side playing the way he is, just a passenger.

Out for Shaw.

Who goes out for Heater?

I say it'll be N. Brown, he needs a rest, a run in the 2's.

Re: Out for Shaw.

Who would go on Ryder?

Presti - Lloyd
O'Brien - Lucas (has a good record against him)

He's almost 200cm and spends a fair bit of time in the forward line... We need another tall to take him surely

Re: Out for Shaw.

Ryder's strength (mobility) is Brown's weakness. That match-up makes no sense.

I'd like to see Toovey go to him.

As for changes, IN: H.Shaw, Wellingham OUT: N.Brown, Goldsack

Re: Out for Shaw.

If we do the obvious and rush Heater in then Goldsack would probably be the man for mine. Harry, Presti, Brown for Neagle, Lloyd and Lucas.

That said I wouldn't be against Heater coming back through the magoo's. Missed a lot of football towards the end of last year and has struggled early days this year, copped the corky against Geelong too, a week to rack up some easy touches in the two's wouldn't hurt IMO.

True I didn't think of that, would be nice to see Toovey playing another role as a tagging midfielder though.

toovey on ryder? wont have the height MDC

Any of goldsack/leigh brown/harry/nathan brown can take ryder

Basically i think Toove goes out for heath, as much as i liked tooves game

Re: Out for Shaw.

Goldsack or Brown. Whichever one MM feels matches up better with Essendons 3rd tall forward. We have their other old farts covered with Prest and Harry.

Re: Out for Shaw.

Either Goldsack or Toovey. Keep in mind I haven't been able to watch more than 15 mins of last night's match, but we don't need all of O'Brien/Cox/Clarke/Shaw/Toovey/Goldsack. 5 HBFs will be more than enough.

Ryder doesn't use his height, so it's a wash.

Of the guys you named, Goldsack plays far too lose, Leigh Brown plays far too Leigh Brown and Nathan Brown isn't mobile enough.

Harry would shut him down, but Lucas is the more dangerous forward so should go to him.

I know where you are coming from but with micks history of having faith and big games nathan brown may well still play and of course shawry will come in.

Yes you cant expect one ruckman to go it alone so i think bryan will have to come in to give josh a break.

Leigh Brown has to stay. He isn't setting the world on fire but can be moved around and the other 2 should be destroying it in the seconds if they want a game in the AFL. I don't know how they went but unless they are BOG then why bring them in. If Brown kicked straight against the cats he is our best player and he didn't go that bad last night. All we need is someone to ruck for 5 to 10 mins a quarter to give Fraser a rest and Brown has been doing that job.

If Shaw isn't 100% fit don't bring him in. He hasn't been as good as we know he can be so if he is not right go with they guys who won us the game last night. If he does come in then its got to be the Sack to make way for him.

Bolded bit LMAO

otherwise i see your point

Knights has been persisting with a very tall forward line thus far. Any of Lloyd, Lucas, McPhee, Ryder or Hille could push forward (not all at once of course). McPhee was playing very good footy before being suspended and has played well up the ground with stints forward. I would think you would need at least three genuine tall defenders and then win the footy on the ground from there.
