I’d rather have Cheney than Otten and Mackay.

Can't say I've heard of that before, I'm only about 60 pages behind in the draft thread...
And he shows courage to leave his man to create a 2 on 1 contest in our favorcheney reads the play better than nearly all our other defenders for mine. dont understand not giving him another year.

Pity the Pies trade fell through when they kept their defenders.I would have paid out Kelly's contract and delisted him rather than delisting Cheney
West AdelaideIt was probably a list age profile decision ....Cheney is 30 yo ...it was a call between keeping Otten or Cheney ....Otten gave the list more flexibilityI would have paid out Kelly's contract and delisted him rather than delisting Cheney
When you look at it No.I’d rather have Cheney than Otten and Mackay.

Wow. Cheney has been very good for us. Do not understand this decision. Seems to indicate that we are not looking to trade up our picks.
West AdelaideWould he accept a year with Gold Coast ??It isn't like Cheney will have any takers, we can still nab him in the rookie draft
West AdelaideAs a Half Back ....I'd prefer & hope McPherson would get the nod ahead of a 30 year old CheneyWhen you look at it No.
For all MacKay's faults, he can play more than one position, he gets the ball more. He tackles more his metre gained he close to double Cheney. but the crunch is he a lot less injury prone.
Otten also plays more than 1 position ruck, KPP both ends of the ground. and gets the ball more.
Cheney would be a nice pick up on the rookie list but I would rather put time into McPherson and maybe Pohokle
The wrong question should be would Gold Coast take him for 1 year.Would he accept a year with Gold Coast ??

West AdelaideYes that ....but again would he wish to pack up & shift, simply for 1 year ?The wrong question should be would Gold Coast take him for 1 year.![]()
Otten plays both fwd and back...but he's not great at either. You can argue that Cheney gives as much flexibility as he can play equally on talls and smallsIt was probably a list age profile decision ....Cheney is 30 yo ...it was a call between keeping Otten or Cheney ....Otten gave the list more flexibility

Yes... but they have until Close of Business tomorrow to decide what to do with him. One. More. Day.
The decision to go with "Live Trading" has massively increased the level of uncertainty for players on the fringes. AFL Contracts expire on 31st October (tomorrow), and there are still a ridiculous number of players who haven't been re-signed and haven't been told that they're going to be cut.
It's completely understandable that the clubs won't want to finalise list numbers until they have a reasonable degree of certainty about what draft picks they will be able to use in the National Draft. For example, Adelaide currently has picks #8, #13, #16, #21, #73 and #83. If they cut Cheney, but then do a 2-for-1 pick trade, then they end up being forced to make a selection at #73 - not exactly plan A. On the other hand, if they keep him and a deal doesn't eventuate then they either lose pick #21 or go to a 39/5 list structure, which has TPP implications.
The end result of this is that many clubs have about 30 hours in which to make the final decision... in the meantime, there are a lot of AFL players whose lives are stuck in limbo.
Here's a list, taken from the AFL website:
Adelaide: Cheney, Hunter
Collingwood: Jarryd Blair, Josh Daicos, Tyson Goldsack, Levi Greenwood, Kayle Kirby, Jack Madgen, Sam McLarty, Adam Oxley, Josh Smith
Essendon: Mark Baguley, Matt Dea
Gold Coast: Jacob Dawson, Jacob Heron, Jack Leslie, Jesse Lonergan
Hawthorn: Ricky Henderson, Harrison Jones, Teia Miles, David Mirra, Marc Pittonet, Ryan Schoenmakers
Port Adelaide: Cameron Hewett, Peter Ladhams, Trent McKenzie
Richmond: Mabior Chol, Nathan Drummond, Derek Eggmolesse-Smith, Jacob Townsend
Western Bulldogs: Tom Liberatore
And... no.Not true.
Cheney had until November 8 to lodge the "player request for removal from an afl list" form ahead of list lodgement 2 date on November 9.
In past years clubs have made these decisions as soon as trade week finished. This year it's been drawn out, as the clubs manoeuvre behind the scenes, hoping to upgrade their picks. This has meant that clubs haven't known how many picks they would be using in the draft, and hence how many vacancies they needed on the list. There's always players on the cusp. If they had other suitors they'd be gone already. Cheney isn't angry at live trading, he's simply hopeful that he gets another contract. If he doesn't, he'll move on perfectly fine.

So do you think this leans towards us using all 4 early picks and therefore not trading up?In past years clubs have made these decisions as soon as trade week finished. Forgotten player. Anyone know how his rehab is going. As a Half Back ....I'd prefer & hope McPherson would get the nod ahead of a 30 year old Cheney
