Agree with this. St Kilda's problem is they lack the A graders, not a lack of mid-tier / fringe players.

I have for a few years (since our era ended) thought that what you need is a quality coach and game plan, 6-7 A graders and the rest of the list can be solid foot soldiers. The latter are easy to find - you can get them as draft picks or mature age recruits. Saints for example have them in abundance. The A graders are the difficult ones to find and you need them to actually break games apart - our recent approach has been to just take known A graders from other clubs rather than look for them in the lottery. It is the correct modern approach in my view with loose player movement.

It does not mean we will definitely win a flag - only 1/18 does every year. But it means we are giving ourselves a chance at it. And the last 3 premiers have shown you don't need to be perfect to win it.
Good post man i agree with all of it

I think what we've seen since our threepeat is 3 premiers that are similar to our 2008 team.

Definitely worthy winners that had great seasons, but don't have the solid foundation of sustained success and top 4 finishes that you historically associate with flag winners (or, Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong in this era. Essendon/WestCoast/Brisbane if you go back a bit further.)

Too early to know yet if Richmond are about to set themselves up for a long stay at the top - but landing Lynch the year after a flag is a damn good way to go about it. Collingwood are just as likely to disappear. West Coast - too soon to tell if they just took their chance when it came or if they'll be around. Bulldogs have now disappeared for two years since their flag.

If we can wrap some key position players around that midfield of Mitchell, O'Meara, Wingard, Worpel, Scully then we've got 5 years of potential, rather than a flash in the pan.

Would Jye Bolton be worth a spot on the rookie list if he’s still available?
I also think if available ex pie Marsh, who has had a couple of good years in WAFL, as a rookie. At worst could be depth, but could also turn into something. He left originally to mental health issues, which it sounds are under control now, settled with girl friend as well.

He is absolutely someone I'd love the club to pick up.

Been doing a phantom draft and the outcome of our 1st Pick was this.

Hawthorn select James Rowbottom with Pick 53.

Of those i thought would be realistic available at our pick I was hoping that either Hamill or Jacob Kossie(CBF trying to spell his name) would be available.
Had to do a bit of quick research when neither of those were available and arrived at the clearance machine that is Rowbottom.

He reminds me a bit of Worpel with that acceleration and willingness to scrap under a pack. Hawks have recently delisted O’Rourke, Lovell & Langford so a midfielder was on the priority list.

Interested to know if you guys would be happy if this is the result of our 1st Pick.

Still hoping Sydney Stack might slide. He is going to be an A grader for sure. Be the steal of the draft

So we have two picks and are likely to have to bid on Mozzie for one of them, is that right?

It seems to me that we will go with two rucks next year, rotating at FF, to address our key forward weakness and so makes most sense to hope we can get Mozzie with our second pick and select best available with our first.

I’m intrigued by his name alone.

Sorry i don't care if he is the next Buddy but i am totally against having anyone on our list with 'Sydney' in there name.
Paul Hawke played for Sydney

They owe us!

Especially someone with a ‘Stack’ of Sydney. I little bit of Sydney is more than enough let alone a stack

Sydney being “stacked” is how we got their 5th best midfielder

Anyone think that Jordan Clark will be available at our pick with the announcement if his Glandular fever. Hawks have been known to take some risks in the draft such as Burton(injury) & Garlett (off ground issues)
