You saw that with Freo - lost Cerra - then recruited 3 WA kids with their 1st 3 picks.

Its why at a min it should be 3 years when drafted.

Again - Could not agree more.

Also when requesting a trade, you shouldn't be able to nominate a specific club.

Pretty unusual to see this much discussion of a player who hasn't signed a second contract in thier seco preseason. I imagine (without having any interest in researching it) that a significant chunk of this draft class would be in the same position and hat the vast majority will re-sign with thier clubs.

That Logan is singled out for discussion speaks to firstly, how exceptional he looks like he could be, and secondly, the extent to which the west Australian clubs fan bases perceive the need for a young key forward.

I guess we should get used to it but it is frustrating already seeing the pressure on to not just lose our most exciting young player, but lose him at a crappy price so early in his career.

What's he worth at the trade table? Genuinely not interested because he has a whole season to actually demonstrate where he is at and give us all something to make an estimate on first, and we have no reason to believe he will want to leave either. His value in the trade table is conditional first, on his wanting to leave and I don't think that's likely.

Maybe come September we will be able to productively discuss his trade value, I certainly hope not.
I would say its because most if not all top 15 picks from that year have already signed up

I wonder why a North supporter would say that?

How many players have said no thanks to North?

Just think how good your side would be right now if players didn't have a say in who employs them.

You are dreaming (and basically being very selfish as a supporter) if you think players will one day be traded and not have a say on who they work for.

The Salary Cap makes it almost impossible to enforce that stipulation when players want to return to their home state.

In Cerra's case, he nominated the club that were willing to give Freo the best or closest deal they needed for a player of his services.

We didn't lowball Freo like the Crows did with Dawson.

We attract good players to our club, because their managers know that we generally (Carlton) are fair traders and do what it takes to get the deal done.

Now clearly we paid overs for Saad, but now I think we got a bargain in Cerra.

Some clubs and their recruiting managers (not naming names but we are know of at least one from a big Melbourne based clubs) are obsessed about 'winning' any deals they are part of, sometimes to the detriment of their footy club.

Like the NBA and the NFL? Which we copy at every opportunity.

Selfish as a supporter that players on average earn 5 times more than a civilian and get double the annual leave?

Pull your head in. Players have way too much power.

The Crows have a bit of a history when it comes to low balling though.

They've done it consecutively now to GWS with Jackson Hately and again w/ Dawson (Sydney)

I suppose it doesn't help your reputation when your club director (Mark Riccuiuto) publicly threatens clubs via the media ... :drunk:

"If GWS don't play ball, we can get him for nothing in the pre-season draft, so he'll become a Crow."

You pull your head in.

The US players you use as an example get paid How much in comparison to AFL players?

10 times?

20 times?

Actually more.

That's the difference. Go and pay players that much and you have an argument. But they don't.

It's sports entertainment mate.....not life or death.

And finally how do you think a player would perform if they were forced to relocate against their will? Is their partners and family expected to just jump and relocate without any dramas?

Some things are just more important in life than your footy team. Sooner you accept that the better.

Nope, they certainly dont.

Average pay in NFL is 860k, so double the AFLs.

Players at the moment are saying "Draft me, ill stay two years, then trade me to where i want to go, at the detriment of their initial club". It is the only league in the world that operates like this and it is absolute archaic.

If you don't want to play for certain clubs, don't nominate for the draft. Simple as that.

In Tim Kellys case, Fremantle actually had better picks, but he blatantly refused to play there, which meant Geelong could only deal with one club, which lowered the market.

They still got way overs, because WCE blinked, but the whole situation was completely unfair on Geelong

Freo dodged a bullet with Kelly, both in terms of SC space and wasting valuable draft collateral.

Geelong got Jeremy Cameron essential out of it, so they came out of it all right.

The Eagles ended being the biggest losers out of all this really

Geelong would have got Cameron regardless.

There’s a reason both Adelaide and North Melbourne overlooked him. I think Sydney will get more than fair value for him if he does leave.

Sydney got a first round pick for Dawson, which was very fair.

The Crows were willing to pay for Hately, even though they didn't have to. GWS got distracted by Caldwell and a deal didn't get done. Ultimately, they probably for what Hately was worth.

Very much sounds like $s is the only hurdle.

Have to say it's an interesting strategy to lock players in for 4 years as second contract. He could be a superstar or a bust in that time. How do you formulate such a contract?

Likely why it was bounced back:
-Logan's team would be betting on their best projection
-Swans team would be betting on a conservative projection
