Player Watch Marcus Bontempelli is overrated

Did you miss the part where I have said several times that Bont is the number 1 player in the league

Best captain awards are a load of sh*t though and I stand by that

No, I didn’t miss that part. It is a sh!t show of an award.

I am not sure why you do, so I thought I would ask. No big deal, just curious.

Don't necessarily hate the Bulldogs just haven't rated them as high as some all year.

Too much of an outside team with lack of quality talls.

Might sound crazy too as Bevo has won a premiership but is he really a top coach who can come up with a great gameplan?

What is it was the bigfooty wide incessant Bulldogs hate from Melbourne supporters??

Have I missed something. I know a lot of them are pissing their pants that they’ll miss out on Mac Andrew while we were able to secure JUH, or is it the Bont > Trac/Oliver thing? Or is it just that we were able to break our duck before them.

I don’t get it, can someone fill me in?

Ok. Was just curious.

Talls is interesting comparison:
Missing Bruce (only recently & who is better than Brown or Weideman)
Naughton is better than McDonald
Martin got cooked (no back up ruck)
Keith concedes almost as few as May Lever we don’t a good option
English currently better than Jackson (I used currently)

When you are missing Dunkley for most of the year, you look more outside than the Dees. Dunkley makes a big difference to the inside outside balance.

Many Bulldog people question Bevos ability too. You aren’t alone in that.

Anyway, like every year, I am hoping we get at least a third matchup this year. That means we are both in finals and this year it can only be a GF.

No dramas from me handing out these medals but do laugh when posters use them on a players CV as of it means something.

(Full disclosure - I've probably done this on occassions)
Why. I would have thought the ultimate accolade would be the players awards.

Don't understand why everyone is so down on awards per say, sounds like tall poppy to me.
From Brownlow to AA captain to coaches awards, some posters have to run the players down, (not directed at you).

I don't think our tall forwards are anything special tbh. Bruce is a very good forward and Naughton will be a star long term but Bruce is now out injured and Naughton hasn't looked much good since his head hit mid season. Brown is coming into form but Tmac has regressed again. This gets off set by having a medium tall like Fritsch firing though.

English and Jackson there isn't much difference but having Gawn allows us to utilise Jackson's strengths a hell of a lot more than you guys can with English. Also allows us to play Gawn back or forward to mess up the opposition's gameplan. Doesn't help when you have games where your coach refuses to let your ruckman ruck either

I rate Keath but he is all you have to rely on down back. Petty/Tomlinson being able to lockdown a 2nd tall from opposition's allows Lever to clean up

But our midfield defensive pressure gives our team its biggest edge. Pressure around the ball forces opposition teams to hurry with their disposal which leads them to bombing the ball long. That plays into our hands as May and Lever just clean up intercepting everything. When that drops and teams get space in the midfield and have time to hit up targets we struggle. It's a gritty style that at times isn't pretty

To me Bevo seems to want to play a beautiful free flowing style of football all the time. Flicking the ball around the midfield and attacking. That's great when you get in front hence you guys belting some teams. But when the pressure comes it seems to fall apart and that's been a big part of your loses.

But that's just my opinion

Coaches award is the most meaningful, and the AFLPA the least. Some players have openly said they don't really watch footy (e.g. Chad Wingard), and yet they can vote. I don't blame them, I don't feel like watching videos of my job after hours. But it makes the AFLPA MVP seem a bit of a joke.

The players don’t care. Essendon nominated Jayden Laverde FFS

I don’t think the bulldogs aim to pressure the ball any less than Melbourne. For mine the difference of Melbourne’s game plan is your willingness to keep your back 6 at home much more than the dogs. Melbourne probably are more consistent in their ability to apply pressure though.

Traditionally sides that play as “safe” as Melbourne have struggled to score enough but Melbourne’s ability to dominate the territory battle to such a large degree seems to overcome this problem.

Richmond were somewhat similar but they seemed create more space in their forward half and just force the ball forward and backed the athleticism of their half forwards. Melbourne are also much stronger around the stoppages then Richmond were.

Footy is a tough sport for fans to follow at a high level especially if you can’t attend game (Not in any way trying to suggest I understand it to a high degree at all. I’m very much a layman). I mean coaches talk about how finals footy is a bit of chess match at times in the box which means there must be multiple schemes and actions with counters and counters to those counters

Because they are upset at us getting good f/S players and NGA guns and now this year they wont with their promising NGA one.
Lol

Yeah that's it

In my opinion, yes

Daicos is unproven
Ablett was a 1-2 dinky-di handball stat peddler

The Bont is the Bont - can't drag his team over the line when the chips are down.
Tom Mitchell won a brownlow.

Says enough about it.

MVP is much higher rated these days and who has a number of those?

Think everyone can acknowledge that the MVP is trash, both in the style of voting and the people that vote.

Doesn't mean that Bont isn't one of the most watchable players this generation.
Yeah... look who has won the brownlow.... rubbish award now.

The fact Bontempelli hasn't won one somehow either..
