This disappoints me, perhaps he didn't fit into the future plans or maybe he just wanted a change?!
Either way I don't appreciate Essendon doing their best to gut our club to bolster their own, **** off and BUILD your own club you poaching tirds

It's hard seeing Essendon steal your personnel, I have massive respect for Geelong.
Could you guys tell me a bit about Egan as a coach? I remember that horrible Navicular injury ruining his career, James Hird had the same thing but he was luckier.

Can't say this one worries me too much. He came to the club with little football experience, played a couple of good years of footy and had it cruely ended. Hard to say as a supporter how well he grew into the role but no doubt it started out with the club looking after him.

Scott-Caracella-Lappin is a strong enough coaching foundation to build around. New blood and new ideas is always helpful. It also opens up a development role for a retiree, if suitable.

Scott-Caracella-Lappin-Ling and one more outsider with different philosophies on footy would be perfect:thumbsu:

Get stuffed Essendon.

So now we have no one on the coaching panel from 07, correct?

We either had no role for Egan or he is a prick. I'll wait to hear details before making a decision. His father in law is an underhanded prick so it wouldn't surprise me.

Seemed to spend most of his time in a development role with the VFL side. He'd have a bit to offer to your young KPD, definitely. Came from nowhere and turned himself into an AA CHB and he's now had a fair apprenticeship in a development role. Obviously, Mark Thompson would know much more than any of us would and he must think that Egan has plenty to offer. I'd trust his judgment.

Egan's role was in the Academy wasn't it? Disappointing to see him go but understandable that he wants to broaden his horizons. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery I guess - that's the second coach Essendon have poached from the Geelong Academy in two years.

Would like to see Ling or Mooney replace him in that role and get an outsider in for Sando's position.

Not to mention the third coach in total, soon we'll be having a dig at your players, it's kind of sickening.

Effen bombers plucking fruit from our bountiful tree...

Hopefully its good for Egan....

Cant decide if i'm pissed that the club kept him on the payroll after the injury and gave him a job and a place to go career wise and now he bails out or whether its a good thing for him to get outside the Cats system and gain more experience to perhaps come back at a later stage.....

I just still have a foul taste in the mouth with peeps leaving the Cattery for Whingy Hill....

Not because of the fact they left, just the way they left.....

That coaching box will be East Geelong soon..... Bomber, McCartney, the fitness coach ( name?) and now Egan...
(McCartney now gone I think...)

Of course it tastes a little sweeter when you say 2011 Premiers.....:D:D

Go Catters....

Have to agree with some that if Egan is serious about a coaching future then going to another club is a good move for him. Good luck to him and thanks for your work as a Geelong man.

I can only hope that some of our retiring players might be kept around at the Club as coaches.

shame to see him go, but when unfortunately it's inevitable for anyone with coaching ambitions to go where the opportunities are

i remember throughout the 90's geelong was always criticised for its treatment of past players, but in the case of egan the club's handling of his post-playing career has been first class.

Cooky was on TripleM yesterday and he mentioned that 3 clubs were chasing Egan - he (from memory) said they'd like to keep Egan but it's good experience for him to go elsewhere and he hoped he'd return to Geelong after a couple of years away.
Very ordinary vc with the name calling :thumbsd:

Go CATS!!

Good luck to him. We've survived the loss of him as a player, Bomber, McCartney, Harley, Abletts, Moons and Dasher. I think we'll struggle by....
Our system and culture tis what counts. The only one we can't afford to lose is Wells!!!

They can poach all they like, but they will never be able to have the culture that the Cats' have built. Shit club with a shit culture, those Dons.

Anyway, best of luck Ego... Such a champion bloke.

Good luck to Ego thank you for all you efforts over the last few years and for being such a upbeat and humble guy even after all you have been through.

also

Andy D has just made an announcement:
"The AFL would like to inform the footballing community that the proposed Essendon training base at Tullermarine has been transferred to Corio Bay to assist Essendon in fulfulling there wish of becoming just like Geelong. the AFL feel that by doing this it will save the EFC a lot of time and effort of poaching Geelong support staff and coaches, the new facility will be known as Kardinia Hill"

James Tird - cant you grow your own coaches.

hacks.

I hope the irony of that statement is not lost on you.

Guss it comes down to the fact that if you are the best side, which you currently are ans have been for a while, other clubs will try to get the services of your people. It happened at Essendon, it happened at Brisbane, and it is happening at Geelong. Take it as a compliment. Besides, the assistant coach merry go round has more movement than trade week, noe assistants seem to be in place for too long anywhere. It's as much about there ambitions as anything.

I hope he really excels, and gains some excellent experience.

However I wonder why he would go to Ess as he has already had 3-4 years coaching under Thompson. Why wouldn't you go somewhere else and get new experiences? Must have paid him a small fortune!

This Ess raiding Geelong stuff is classic Sheedy isn't it? He wanted all the clubs to do it a year or two ago. He wants everyone to get Freo now as well. He is behind that sort of culture and thinking, and his young "disciples" like Bomber and Hird are at it as well.

It is a pity Sheeds will be gone from GWS before other clubs start raiding them!

Why don't all the AFL clubs get together and start potting Ess? Nothing worth taking I guess.

Dude, all I see in this thread is 99% best wishes to Egan and some banter directed at East Geelong / Essenlong, which on your board your mob (including you) have got a little precious about - suggesting a hope that it dampens our premiership celebrations.
