It's just so hard to see how Freo were ever going to afford him at the trade table.

Hopefully they didn't give him false hope in that regard.
Not sure why, but I give the club benefit of the doubt.
They may have offered up a very good player, next years first, and a steak knives player for all we know, and the players said no to the trade.

But it doesn't mean we should just accept the 37th best player on their list and next years first. If you want a contracted exciting forward prospect, you gotta pay overs.

Your fans may not like it, but you do what you have to in order to land him.

Was a rubbish deal.
Wasn't the offer pick 22 and a future first round pick?

That's fair in light of this news. If the player wants out, then trade him like Yarran, Henderson and Bell. Yarran was worth as much as Henderson, but we still less for a contracted player and drafted Cuningham.

No one is irreplaceable if they want to leave. We traded Menzel after he re-signed in 2014. Bemusing by GWS after they were involved in trade and gave us four players to get a future first round pick.

Clubs and players all play hard to get...

Aish got to the Pies after they wouldn't hand him over for Beams.

Yeah they may have thought that they would have enough to get the deal done, we'll never know. Just hard to see how they could have had sufficient currency.

signing people up for long time periods when they haven't played many games is a bit disingenuous and shows you how GWS are running things - stock piling picks and locking people in. That doesn't sound like they are looking after the players at all.

What a load of crap. How is offering a zero gamer with several key forwards ahead of him a 3 year contract extension disingenuous???

We had a lot of second year players, Dylan Shiel, Jeremy Cameron among them, that were very homesick in their second year.

We turned them around.

We backed in our systems, gave him special dispensation over the summer for more trips home. It's not as simple as Yarran wanting out, so you trade him.

What would you know?

Way to sh!t on him without knowing what he's going through.

The kid comes from a family of mad Freo supporters, Freo offered him mega bucks to move and GWS said no. He's contracted to the end of 2017.

The AFL should come in and say if you are depressed enough not to honor a contract you signed then sure go home and play WAFL but as a duty of care the league stipulates you can't play for another AFL club next year. Have some time off young man and get your head right. Then once you've grown up you can have another crack.

See how he walks away from a job that pays hundreds of thousands playing a sport he obviously loved at some stage.

It's a set up and Freo are pulling the strings here.

The AFL don't have to say that mate.
We have a contract that says it for them.

The issue is Freo people claiming he has mental health issues and at the same time claiming those issues wouldn't exist had he been traded to Freo.

That's not how depression works it's not circumstantial.
Incorrect. Population examples: depression rates increase as people get older, or after particular life traumas e.g. losing a partner for instance. There are always individual circumstances that can help to lead to an understanding of why a person develops depression - hence why psychotherapy is effective for people suffering with depression.

In fact it is the case in all illnesses, physical as well as psychological, that social circumstances play a huge part - see the Kaiser Permanente adverse childhood experences study for evidence - http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/acestudy/findings.html

I don't know what CMac's issues are but it seems quite likely he has a vulnerability to developing a mental illness, in common with perhaps 40-50% of the population, which has been triggered off in part by being forced to live his life far away from his home, and away from his family.

Theres no way he misses just his family.

He would miss getting on the piss with mates and surfing.

GWS really is a shithole for both of those things

Playing for $400,000 less at GWS after signing a contract extension too quickly.

Like I said if he is depressed fair enough, Cam can go home and take a year off (2017) playing AFL before Freo can re-sign him.

Ffs there was no godfather deal, His management and our football club have confirmed this. But just keep yapping on about it, it's only making you look stupid.

Hawthorn really wanted Jed Anderson for 2017 after a couple of players retire. He really wanted to play football in 2016.

North Melbourne made a sweet deal and everyone is happy.

Its that easy. It really is.

Freo were fiddling around trying to get McCarthy and Bennell and were playing games. Because of it they had to beg Pav to stay another year because they were left without a key forward.

If Freo really wanted McCarthy they would have got the deal done. It would have been too good for GWS to refuse - despite them saying they wouldnt trade.

Just like Brisbane and Aish. Just like GWS and Treloar. Both were wanted by their clubs but ultimately traded because the deals were sweet enough.

The 2 clown clubs of the trade period were St Kilda and Freo. Possibly Richmond who didnt get anyone, but clearly were not 100% invested in getting players.

Maybe you should become a list manager if it is so easy. Please tell what you would have done to get this easy trade done. Using Weller in the equation may have had some very small chance, but really the only thing which would have tempted GWS was letting go of someone like Neale or Hill. Which would be beyond stupid. Giving them something "too good to refuse" is what made us clowns in the past (Croad, Tarrant, Carr), yet you claim we are also clowns for not actually doing such a thing (while getting Bennell for a bargain).

Western Sydney and Sydney are 2 different places. Are you that stupid?

This is Balmain. Balmain is closer to Homebush (our training base and home ground are located in Homebush) than Homebush is to Blacktown.

Just a little heads-up for you Soggy Sao. Because, I'd hate for anyone to think you were that stupid to not know the difference.

No are YOU that stupid? It seems you are.

This is a car.

This is a roof rack for surf boards.

And you can even use a car to go to the beach with your :eek:friends even if it's not near where you live.

And don't rent / buy in GWS. You can use the car thingy shown above to drive from work to a nice place to live. Maybe near a beach with surf if you like that sort of thing. In fact that's what most normal people do.

Originally I thought the Freo offered not enough for him. But:
He isn't a core GWS player (as in not in best 10), he is depressed/homesick, is a lead out forward (which GWS have 2 others in NEAFL) and he wanted to leave.
Beginning to see the two late first rounders as a fair offer.
On the other side, GWS needed to make a stand OR how many would leave this year.

Missed the part where he is contracted for a further 2 years and freo desperately need a forward

Not every football department knows how to get a deal for a contracted forward done in trade week.
You're lucky the Dogs do.
Freo fans, not so much.

So many badasses calling Cam soft behind their key boards when they havnt got a clue what's going on, the dregs of society have gravitated to this thread.

GWS have a duty of care to sort this problem out they have handled it poorly, it's about the person now not about making a stand on not trading him.
