Wood? not sure how much the AFLW overlaps with the VFL season, but Cloke is also there to support.

If we are going external then Michael Barlow is the guy, money should be no object

AFLW starts this week and VFL ended a couple weeks ago, but if there was VFL finals there'd be a clash

VFLW and AFLW are more compatible which is where Cloke is working across both and doing a specialist dev role for the AFL team.

Maybe Trav is helping Weideman with his goal kicking 😛

Doing a good job at Werribee.
I'm hoping for a little more. There's plenty of football people doing good jobs, I'm curious what makes Barlow the guy compared to others.

Plenty of people around the traps rate him . Speaks well when he has been on radio. There are plenty who say he is doing as good a job as Williams and he was very highly rated for his footy IQ at the Giants.

Just make him contested marking coach for the AFL side, get him out there for an hour or 2 each week. Even being retired for 6 seasons he'd probably still out-position and out-muscle most of our list.

Because he’s a gun. Should be in the afl system
Very high footy iq and has excellent rapport with players

Don’t think he’ll jump back into afl yet, he himself has said he like being able to do media/ podcasts alongside coaching werribee.
And he hasn’t just done a good job, he’s turned werribee into a power house.

Not only is he doing a good job at Werribee as mentioned above but he's doing it without stacking the deck with ex AFL players like the other standalones are and getting better results.

From the outside he's managed to get consistent buy in from everyone from grizzled veterans that have been plugging away for a decade all the way through to players just out of the TAC cup, bringing all different cultures together and getting the best out of them.

No better candidates on paper IMO.

that second paragraph all but rules him out of contention then. Don’t need any upstarts with radical ideas and abilities like that entering our entrenched boys-club ecosystem

I'd be going hard at Shannon Hurn if we could get him to move to Melbourne. Jack Riewoldt would be a great forwards coach too imo

maybe i'm losing my mind but having travis cloke being our forward coach is insane to think about considering towards the end of his career he could barely hit the side of a barn within 40 meters.

surely that's not a permanent position, right?
that part is a worry, but he was great at all the wrestling/bodywork/pack crashing and general big guy stuff that our big guys cannot do

I would think a forward coach would be more interested in the forwardline as a unit and prioritise creating set shots at goal over how to actually kick a ball.
