Haven't seen any analysis of this kid yet. Of all the new kids who played on Sunday he impressed me the most - very sure of himself, and a beautiful kick. Even looks a bit like Joel Selwood.

His resume reads well too:

"A medium-sized forward/midfielder, the West Australian was selected in the All-Australian side after last year’s NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Was seventh in the 3km time trial at the Draft Camp and equal ninth in agility. Leads up well and is a thumping kick. "

He looked ready to go. Any other side he'd play 22 games this year. I want to see him play but there's no way you could squeeze him into the 22.

Sounds like Ryan Gamble without the attitude....

Loved his decision NOT to handpass to GAJ, then side-stepped his opponent with a fake and goal!

Form, injuries and suspensions create opportunities. Everything that has come from the coaches in relation to Mitch has been positive.

He'd be looking at a half forward spot so therefore up against the likes of Chappy and SJ and compete with Gamble. You can cross out form but I don't think they'll both play 22+ finals. When the opportunity arises I'm sure the kid will grab it in both hands.

Yes!!! Told me something about him. It was very classy. I think we will be hearing a lot more from this boy.

Early Days but he has promise

Every so often one sees a young player that comes in a doesn't look scared to have the ball in his hands , that he wants it , that he wants the heat that it brings. GAJ was like that from so early on, he was willing to draw the defender to him and give the ball off to a team mate. The instinctive fake then shot at goal is a mindset sign of a player who is willing take the shot , a goto man , a match-winner. He is not that yet but it was a nice smooth move and we really haven't recruited to many like that.

The nice thing is at his size matched with his tank , he could quite likely evolve into a future goalkicking mid for us. Thats down the track , for now if he can get a game he will be doing well

They wont rush into the senior team unless he shows he absolutely belongs there (ala Selwood). So I expect he will play a few senior games this year. Other than that once he has a couple of preseasons under his belt he will be cherry ripe for senior selection. Players like him often hit the season running and then start to peter out by 2/3's mark of the season due to fitness.

I loved his game.

At one point he was about 60 out with no one on the mark, I would have loved for him to run up to the 50 and kick a supergoal. Could have won us the match!

But looking very good indeed, hopefully he gets a few games this year.

The most impressive thing i saw was his 60-m kick from half-back to a running Gary Ablett on the wing.

Class personified.

I was wrapped with his game and surprised i didnt hear more about it from others to be honest. He showed great poise and didnt seem to be overwhelmed by the occasion. He wasnt even Geelong's first round selection either.
He and Josh Hunt getting through well were what i took out of that game as a supporter

They've been talking him up during the preseason (as they did with Selwood) and you can see why. Some guys you can just tell they are going to be a player, and it took about 15 minutes for me to say just that. Very promising indeed.

I made the following statement about Mitch Duncan back in mid December

Mitch Duncan - Only saw him breifly but liked very much what i saw. Great foot skills, could be the player of the draftees to play this year.

Glad to see he proved me right somewhat.

I also said this about James Podsiadly on the same day as well.

James Podsiadly - Moved extremely well and seemed to be very quick on the lead. Got a lot of the ball in the drills and presented fantastically on the lead and his kicking was imaculate. I thin khe may be a surprise packet and play a bit more than we think and make a signuficant contribution, who wouldnt with the delivery he gets.

On fire with my predictions.

He totally shanked that kick. Had the weirdest spin I have ever seen yet somehow still hit Ablett on the chest :D

If he is given some opportunities it wouldn't surprise me if he is the next Joel Selwood. Was very impressed with the way he played, even though it was Joel when he kicked a goal lol

Agreed....from what I'd heard all summer I figured he clearly must be a good prospect, and seeing him for the first time live confirmed it for me. He still probably won't play a lot of games this year unless guys like SJ, Chappy et al are injured. But a really good prospect for our future midfield.

With Stokes and Corey missing some games early. He may get a few games in the first half of the season and then again if we get the chance to rest some players. Still unlikely to be a regular though, despite looking promising.

he jumps ahead of Ryan Gamble in my books, on the basis that Gamble was nervy in front of goal in 2009, & kicked some scrappy points after taking an inspired grab.

shonky kicking at goal is a heresy these days when games are on a knifes edge - a la Geelong's 2008 grand final misses & St. Kilda's muffed chances in 2009 GF.

I think a few people are getting a touch carried away here.

He definitely shows promise and did a couple of nice things. But let's put it in perspective, he's played 1 NAB cup game.

Let's just cool our heels shall we?

Exciting talent, no doubt, but I'd like to think that Hogan's still first in line.

Yes, let's not forget about this lad. Duncan certainly showed some signs, but Hogan has the runs on the board playing for the seniors, and playing well. I would not be surprised to see him in the 22 in Rd 1.

Anyone catch the audio today with Moon dog? Was talking about Corey's injury and then straight away jumped to Duncan maybe getting his debut. Another piece to the kid impressing all round puzzle.
