Paddy Dow losing his teeth in his first half of AFL football and then coming back on says it all.

We have evolved.

Gibbs personified recent Carlton. A pretty pony. Dow’s courage is indicative of the new Carlton. He is resilient, dedicated and has natural leadership qualities. Fisher, Charlie, Jack, SPS, Caleb, Jacob, Cunners, Harry and OBE share this trait.

It will take time to fortify but it’s coming. When a man does what Paddy did last week, it naturally builds resilience. The bar goes up a notch.

BB and SOS are building a very powerful Carlton.

I’m proud again.

Love your post Tommy

I have a 6 year old daughter and she idolises Charlie. I asked her why and she said “he is beautiful and brave”. Words from a child.

Charlie flys back into the pack more than most. Hence he is already becoming elite in contested marks.

In saying that the kids will prosper, I reckon the hardest nut I forgot to mention in my above post is Jones. This guy has been slated as a hack. He was put in the twos and told its curtains unless you learn a new craft. He then worked his guts out to become a defender. Now that we have good coaches, he was given a shot after grafting out strong performances. What does he do? He grabs the chance and throttles it. That’s tough. That makes men rise. He will die for his craft. I won’t be surprised if he is AA at the end of the year.

What Jones has proved is that we have a sound system. We choose players that deserve it and then offer them the opportunity to perform. As our list develops depth, there is no doubt that our hunger will also develop.

Great coaching. Great structure.

We are on the precipice of greatness. No doubt about it.

I reckon Kennedy deserves a mention in there too, TA. His stoppage work in the last match was brilliant; directing other players, and often doing stuff that didn't benefit him but would help the team. He'd signal to Kreuzer where he was going to head before running through, blocking opp mids and then creating space back where he started for Kreuz to tap to one of our players.

It seems like they're building a bit of that kind of culture at the club which is great. I remember someone here saying they had Barker speak at a work function and he was talking about the terminology they're changing like replacing the phrase "sacrificing your own game" for "investing in the team" and then those acts being a real focus at team meetings.

Kennedy and Cripps are going to be the next Stoppage terminators. Both have very strong cores. Both are slow (ish). Both can take a contested grab. Both are fearless. Both won't lie down easily.

Sok been a month and a half and I still don't get it ........

Read "bolts" as a shortened version of Bolton - but the thylacine60 was playing the word 'bolts'

as plural of bolt - as in metal bolt that goes into a nut...hence hard to peel...

Reckon Bolts showed a bit of mongrel yesterday telling that * tosser to GAGF

:clapping::clapping:

I've enjoyed watching Ed step it up as far as mongrel goes - he is hitting tackles much harder over the last couple of weeks and imposing himself -getting back to top form of pre injury 2017...unfortunately he had a brain fade and pushed an ump - after he dumped Merrett into the ground..really nailed Zaharakis as well...

Cripps is now also developing some 'smart' mongrel stuff - really good to see...

Kreuzer seemed to take pleasure in laying some hard tackles against Essendon loved the one on the finger pointer..- don't think he likes them much...he should be just as hard against every team ...

On the negative side- I'm getting a bit tired of seeing one too many half steps from Garlett - too many one arm attempts to grab a ball in congestion - SPS seems to be getting over the one arm fake attempt though so that is a positive..

Ed Curnow's mongrel was on point against Essendon, his energy expenditure would have been very high i swear i saw him 20-30 times get into a player at a stoppage, it was great to see. Lamb has to play the mongrel role every week, target the play maker and send him to them, he doesn't give a **** and when he plays that role it brings the best out of him, he was clean, sidestepping, kicking goals was awesome. I look forward to his Sicily matchup later in the year.

I just wanted to bump this thread, I'm interested in where people think we are genuinely at with this in terms of future premiership aspirations? We all have different views on what it takes to win premierships, but my opinion is that it is the leadership and drive for excellence of the leadership core of the top 8-10 players that dictates whether you succeed or not (with some luck and good list management with the right age profile thrown in).

Carlton, this century, has never had enough of a core of experienced players with "mongrel" that ever really have looked like achieving ultimate success. 2009-2011, we played some exciting footy and had some genuine talent but we never really had that pure leadership mongrel and drive for excellence that Hawthorn and Geelong had. Judd had mongrel aplenty, Carazzo too. But to me we just didn't really have enough players who wanted it enough, players like Joel Selwood who have more competitive spirit than a huge chunk of our list back then combined.

Cripps - Quite possibly the best guy we could possibly have to captain us, thank god he is ours.

Docherty - As above, an outstanding person to have. Unfortunately there has to be a serious question mark on what he can do going forward with his 2 ACL's.

Walsh - I've seen enough. He hadn't played a bad game in the 2 years prior to joining us and is now delivering the same for us, you don't do that without an insatiable appetite for excellence and inner mongrel.

I'm going to stop there as I'm interested in others people's opinions for the rest of the young guys, there's a huge amount of young talent there now, unlike we have ever had for as long as I can remember. Do we have too many high draft pick types and not enough role playing mongrels?

It's easy to get mongrel ****heads, it's the mongrel within our future leadership core of better players that I am discussing. How do you think we rate?
