I thought that all the negatives I'd heard about Peake must be true.
He was good at getting at the ball, but of all his posessions 80% must have ended up a turnover.
If only they didn't have deliberate out of bounds rules, his best bet would be to run as far as he could before stepping over the boundary.

I thought Heyne was OK, but I suspect a case of the jitters. 30000 people at Ettihad is a long way from Orbost.

Agree re-the others.

I think you're being a bit harsh on Peake, he had a couple of turnovers but I'd say it was more like 20% than 80%. The turnovers were more from him hanging on to the ball too long and getting caught with the ball, which may have been due to lack of options up field or just poor decision making on Peake's part.

I don't think his kicking is as bad as people make out either, most of his kicks last night were OK and found a teammate or were to our advantage. I'd certainly take his kicking over Ball's anyway. Also wouldn't mind seeing Peake used forward a bit more as well as he is a pretty good shot for goal on the run.

His own fault for getting involved in the play being flattened, however I thought it was a bit of a dog act to turf his face afterwards, Ben Johnson I believe it was (could be wrong, if so oops) by all means give the guy a spray but you're a small man indeed shoving someones face into the ground.

I mean shit, would be a different story if he had spinal injury cause of it and that shove cracked a vertebrae or something. Not a smart thing to do in my book.

But that was one incident, and other than that there were no reports and it would appear that everyone else kept their heads.

That bloke seems a bit old to be a runner doesn't he? He seems to have a habit of getting caught up in the play too and giving away free kicks. I think it may have been him that got pinged earlier in the game when Stanley took that great grab and also a couple of times last year for being too close to the play. Those free kicks can be crucial to the outcome of a game.

I don't condone the Collingwood player rubbing his head into the ground last night but if he keeps getting in the way you can't blame opposition players for knocking him over.

I just read some of the magpie posts. Its unbelievable, still blaming the umpires and are talking that they would have won the game in regular season. Truly they leave stunned.

Why is it always the umpires' fault when collingwood lose?

And whats with this perception that Riewoldt gets such an easy ride. He did get one free last night which resulted in a goal but the commentators agreed that it was there. He did give a couple away too, from memory.

At least hearing them whinge means they've lost again and it is always enjoyable beating that mob no matter the stakes...

Sorry man, but no matter how much I love Roo, he's a serial cryer.

- The collarbone incident
- B&F acceptance speech after Thomas' sacking
- GF loss.

Personally, I've never minded it - I think it shows heart and passion, and I think the whole idea that "big boys don't cry" is a crock. But he's not doing himself any favors with the macho morons (... who I suspect also have him as their first pick in DT and SC though, just quietly).

Yeah, you would think having a man who might need a sit down foot rub and a zimmer frame might not be a good choice for runner in the first place, it's why the issue wasn't with the initial contact since it's his own fault if he did, but the act afterwards.

I'd largely agree though, based on that game and his record (since I had a vague recollection of him being involved before tonight again) I'd be surprised to see him again nor would I understand it if he was.

Couldn't agree more. Geez the youth was good last night though. Very promising signs with Smith, Stanley. Armo and Schneids were brilliant and thought Roo was exceptional. Looks the best i've ever seen him and kicking looked confident. I thought Kos was pretty average and Peake was OK. Spewing we blew a 43 point lead but hey, we aren't going to Alice Springs which is a massive bonus for the boys.

Anyone know when Lynch will get a gig ?

I remember saying Smith looked like a footballer when he was given a guernsey back in '08.

Good game, caught glimpses (and the last 5 minutes) of it at the pub last night. Must have had 20 people crowded around the TV at the end. Seemed half were Saints supporters haha. Theme song went up when Schnadzo kicked the last...lol, probably the greatest/most enjoyable pre-season game I'll ever watch. Guess being drunk helps with that though...

And Armo, vindicating my alias at last? Always knew it was just a matter of time. <3

You might have to change it to Armitage2Schneider after last night's game though.:D

i think it was heath shaw, very poor form indeed...

It was Ben Johnson. But it was only a push, potential for spinal injuries is going over the top.

He bent down as he went for the ball, don't think Jonno dropped his shoulder on purpose. Fair game if the runners in that position, still shaking my head at how close he got to the ball.

The tap on the head was a bit much tho.

How come Lynchy wasn't playing? Hope he plays soon, to think of all our good young guns last night and we still have this highly rated kid in line. Nicky winmar too but he is too raw at this stage.

Also how far away is Jesse Smith?

If he plays any football at all this year I'll be shocked.

Watch again, he drops the shoulder. And that guy looked ancient.. at that age, just a fall could do spinal injury.

And why did he have to shove old mate's face into the ground after that?

You're obviously hallucinating.

The runner stepped directly into Johnson's path and Johnno tucked up for the impact. Waht else could he do?
He reached down and tapped him after he enquired if he was alright.

You're not wrong about him being old though.

Total non event,. The runner will have a good story for a few weeks.

Still don't understand how the umpire decides what level of interference deserves a free though?

Anyway, congrats on the win, looks like some talented young ones are coming through at Moorabbin, especially impressed with McEvoy.

Bullshit, took a cheap shot at a bloke about 30 years older than him. Toughest thing that pea heart Johnson did all night.

Gutless squib, and showed by pushing his face into the ground.

Really piss weak effort, but typically Collingwood.

Thought some were a bit harsh on Gaertner (or Gertna if you listen to Ch 7). Backed into a pack with some courage, and got a few good touches in very limited game time. Yes, has to work on his kicking but he is 199cm after all.

I guess Goodie is feeling better now that Ch 7 did not recognise Heyne either (and some couldn't pronouce his name).

Thought the extra clip from Johnson on the runner was really poor form, but at least he didn't drop from his usual standards.

BJ, Kosi (who looked it bit out of it after the early knock), Sam F and Blakey didn't play anywhere near their ability, so hopefully plenty of upside for them on that performance.

Go J:thumbsu:offa can understand legend status now. Any hints on how I can get out of the apprentice stage and begin the climb?

Didn't you just love how Timmy Watson and Richo were in the SAINTS' ROOM after the game talking about fow fabulous the LOSERS COLLINGWOOD were?! Gee, you're surrounded by the victors, and can't be stuffed getting an interview with one of them. No, talk about the filth.

It's like when you go out on a first date and the girl only wants to talk about how fabulous her loser ex was...

That's just the default message for the number of posts you have made.

Post more and it will change. :)

Although because of your large donation towards our player sponsorship I believe you receive a BF Platinum Membership and as part of that you can change it to anything you like. I'll chase that up for you.
