The last contract was the one we needed to get Boak through... He's ours now for good....and will be our next Captain.

With his next contract taking him into free agency I think that will the last contract to take him through to a PAFC player for life

Honestly how can you be 100% certain he will stay with beyond free agency..

What half of you seem to neglect about the Boak saga is we are paying him 700k a year money he hasn't earnt if he went back to Vic his contract wouldn't even be near that....and if he was commited to us why only sign with us for 2 years.

I do want boak as captain...not because I think he is he best choice I am just hoping extra responsibility will help him reach an elite level which I doubt but I think it's worth a shot.

Brad will be elite captaincy or not he has a massive chance to win our first brownlow

People are overplaying the free agency thing. If he wanted to go to Geelong this year he would have gone to Geelong. A trade would have been done one way or another.
This was the year. And given the circumstances and the enormous pressure he was under to head home, the fact he didn't speaks volumes.
If even 10% of Travis Boak wanted out he'd probably currently be doing pre-season at the Cattery.

Boak is really not going to be affected by FA. He will be an RFA under current rules. This means we only have to match another club's offer in order to keep him, which we would be able to do since he is our highest paid player and the new offer is unlikely to be much more than what we are paying him now. If he wants to go it would have to be via a trade.

Boak himself would know this so the 2 yr deal is not about giving himself an easy out when he becomes an FA. He has a unique family situation and the shorter deals give him greater control over it.

I think he would be a good Captain. But there are others who could be just as good.

It's a massive massive clusterf... Come the end of his contract, as in 2 years time we have at least 5 blokes who could command that kind of money or at the very least command more money then what they are on now. Then what?

Sure but you have the AFL annual report that has the number of players that earn in each $100k band from $1mil down. Given there were
a) 20 players who made $600k+ in 2011 and
b) another 20 who made between $500k and $600k,
and that the salary cap increased by $575k approx in 2012 and another $400k in each of 2013 and 2014 and that he signed a new contract in 2012, we don't have many high profile high paid experienced stars, and we have to pay 95% of the cap, $700k is a pretty good estimate

If Boak has re signed and 1 of his 2 years he doesn't earn $700k and plays nearly every game then I would advise him to get a new manager. I have no idea what his base vs match payments split is plus if he is getting an ASA payment. If in 2011 40 guys got paid $500k inc ASA amounts then he would have been our player in that 40.

Worth and cost are two different concepts.

REH seems to think 700k is acceptable I think he is pretty non biased on the issue and defiantly his opinions are more educated then most and a pretty respectable poster dam he even broke it down for you so you can understand his conclusion

I can't speak for others but I was laughing at the notion that Beams would leave Collingwood to come to Port Adelaide, which is what you were suggesting. There was also the sublime irony in your slamming of Boak for being a mercenary and then in the next breath proposing that we throw the kitchen sink at Beams to get him to Port.
