Mega Thread Nick Daicos - Can he be the GTWEB? Part 2

Yep and when he doesnt perform (Prelim Final vs Brisbane) then he should cop it as well.

Cant just sing his praised and then go quiet when he doesn't do well especially in Finals.

He was quiet today. He wasn't good enough. He got 27 possessions....but he didnt have the impact. His finals series this year hasn't been that good. Different kettle of fish to Home & Away footy.
Yeah, a 'quiet' game for Daicos

'Only' 27 possessions and his team's best player.

And look at the pile on.

But he is the emerging GOAT.
Certainly very advanced in his skills.

“The Daicos effect” in the opening post is an interesting idea.
Looks to me like the Collingwood method is built around Daicos blowing up the GPS and using his skills as an offensive weapon.
Unfortunately two soft tissue injuries to over 35 yr olds threw the structure outve whack, particularly Pendlebury.
Daicos couldn’t be a 100% offensive midfielder and “The Daicos effect” was you couldn’t get first hands on the ball and poor at defending stoppage.
Think the score from stoppages back that up.

Not going to be too critical in the tackling efforts when he’s had to use so much energy chasing tail.
Not sure he’d be to familiar with that.

Except....

His ratio of matchwinning games to games played is higher than every other current player playing the game...

This doesn’t change what I’ve said at all. His entire career he’s been in a contending side, nothing to do with his ability to drag a side over the line at the coalface when it matters most, which is limited.

Could have very well wrapped up the Fadgelow too.

To have 2 x Fadgelows in your first 4 seasons is unprecedented.

But he is the emerging GOAT.
4 score involvements and no goals yesterday. Just 3 handballs and no kicks in the final term?

Smith and Holmes have had better finals series than Daicos. McCluggage even with his QF fizzer has now gone ahead too. All get to play in and potentially decide the biggest game of the year now and secure the MeowVP.

You’re kidding me if you think he was Collingwood’s best player last night. Elliot with 4 goals in a side well beaten? Josh Daicos with 26, 8 inside 50’s, 6 rebound 50’s? Cameron with 15 disposals, 35 hit outs, 5 tackles?

Nick was absolutely nowhere when the game was on the line, and even your insane bias knows that.

Really good first half.

Wouldn't have been in the top 15 players in the 2nd half when the game was decided.

Not sure whether he is directed to simply skirt packs until the final siren, or if it’s just his natural game, but when your team isn’t winning first ball it’s extremely ineffective.
Clearly he is an offensive weapon, but in the context of this ridiculous thread, no GOAT is simply watching his team lose the game in a prelim from 6-8m off the contest.

No doubt he is a gun but geez he needs to learn how to stick a tackle.
Two really poor misses on bailey and wilmot resulted in goals. On both occasions it felt like the lions player was going to dispose of the footy before the tackler arrived but then realised it was Daicos and man handled him like a child.
In finals football being able to apply intense pressure and sticking effective tackles is arguably as important as what you do with the ball. The teams that are beaten in this aspect are knocked out more often than not.

Now not every star has been elite in these areas. But generally your midfielders will at least be competent at this stuff.

Of course you are not alone. You are hiding in Daicos's bedroom right now while he is sleeping.
Hahahhaha, yep its the old collingwood hype, as noted previously in this Thread and is absolutely true, if he played for an interstate club, we would hear nothing about him.

How’s the media puffing him up too, he gave a basic hand ball under no pressure to player standing on his own and old D Russel the usual suspect commentary was “ Brilliant bit of play daicos “ I cringed

We see through the bias crap

I think the coaches will be voting accordingly in terms of Gary Ayres votes.

Daicos won't be getting many votes because he didn't really play well at all despite getting 27 disposals - his impact on the game was poor....little to no impact especially when the game got tight and Brisbane started to impose themselves - Daicos was nowhere to be seen.

27 of the most irrelevant possessions in the history of the game.

The fact that Daicos could have had 100 and you would have still lost says it all.

Unless Nick Daicos magically grows into a full-size footballer, his tiny little frame will stop him from being better than several other undersized outside accumulators like Dayne Zorko and Rory Laird.

Think it’s pretty clear that if you can’t win your own ball or 1v1’s and your team can’t get it to you you’re not going to have much of an impact.
I’d reckon Daicos might’ve run over 17k’s last night.

If the game evolves to a point where that kind of player is considered in GOAT conversations ahead of a player like Dangerfield, 30 contested, 3 goals when it counted.
Then the game is rubbish.

Danger had 13 score involvements, 2 goal assists and around 20 contested possessions too. Stacks of crucial clearances. Handballs to release teammates after busting packs. Long driving kicks before the opposition defence could set themselves. Just annihilated Hawthorn and broke their spirit. Monster finals performance. He's had others. Ablett, Judd and Dusty did. Buckley, Voss and Hird did. I still haven't seen that from Daicos.

Gun player, very special. Area of improvement is tackling, he missed a few critical tackles yesterday. As he gets stronger they will likely stick

Very interesting read on how the assessments have been set up and I do like the idea of ticking off anyone he may have passed as his career progresses
Incredible first couple of seasons that do stack up against anyone entering the league

Still has a long way to go though to match the feats of several hundred players let alone the top 50, I can see possibilities of getting to top 15-20 but unfortunately the rose coloured glasses will see him much higher in this I imagine, totally understandable though so will read on with interest

5 years away from his peak?

Interesting to learn that Ablett as a Cat and Judd as an Eagle played no finals at their peak.

Ablett turned 23 the year he was clear BOG in a QF + PF (deciding the latter classic).

Judd turned 22 the year he tore the 2005 finals series apart.

Daicos turns 23 in a few months.
Different physical types.

Juddy arrived in the AFL physically outstanding in terms of pace, power and endurance and repeat efforts. Gaz just needed one preseason where he did enough work to have all three. Those two were really rare in that regard. Usually the powerful blokes need 5+ years to develop the endurance and repeat efforts to play midfield, eg - Petracca, Degoey, Heeney. Or the outstanding runners need that long to build up the strength to be good in a contest - Daicos, Holmes, McCluggage.

Nick arrived a skinny flanker and is gradually developing his strength. If his body holds up, like most players, he'll physically peak at about 28.
