Mega Thread Nick Daicos - Can he be the GTWEB? Part 2

LOLOLOL.

We're being reliably informed that Daicos has never been the best player in the league because he's never win a Brownlow.

But then when the same nuffs have it pointed out to them that Daicos has received 0.2 more votes per game played than the player with the next highest average in the history of the game, the response is...'Um, look over there!'
No you’re not. The Brownlow is a midfielders medal so that automatically rules out 2/3 of elite players. We are saying he isn’t the best because irrespective of awards he still doesn’t do what the best midfielders do.

He just isn’t as good as players mentioned already.

Yeah, they've really picked apart my analysis of Daicos v. Cripps over the last 3 years, by saying 'I don't see much of a difference there....', despite:

Cripps beating Daicos in 2 of the 7 major individual awards - by 1 position and 2 positions respectively.

Daicos beats Cripps in 7 of the 9 individual awards - by 1, 6, 16, 17, unknown, unknown and unknown positions respectively.

Add in Daicos' 3 x All-Australians v. Cripps 1, Daicos 3 x Coaches votes in 4 major finals with a Premiership v. Cripps 1 x Coaches votes in 3 minor finals plus one major final, with no premiership.

'But there's no obvious difference in performance between the two players!'
Why do these awards make him a better player?

Just out of curiosity, does anyone think Nick wins these awards, or comes 2nd in a few, whilst wearing a West Coast jumper for the past few years ?
Just a reminder...

Collingwood finished 17th in Daicos' draft year, and we were told by all and sundry we were in for a handful of years of Carlton type mediocrity.

Guess what happened next?

So why is he regularly outperforming ALL OF THEM, as judged by the players, coaches, umpires and media?
Umpires can’t do their jobs let alone judge players. The media panders to the name and Collingwood. He gets the ball, he is clean, he is highly skilled and he looks great going forward in a team doing well. There has never been such hysteria for a young player, purely due to the media exposure.

Honestly, he just isn’t as good or rounded as a pure mid as other players. He was god awful come finals. You can wipe your arse with the awards, given his performance in the PF is a measure of how he played then he was shockingly overrated.

So rather than deflect for a change, how about you answer the basic question of whether you think he still collectively wins these awards whilst wearing a West coast jumper for the past few years. A simple yes, or no is the only answer here.

Of the game-by-game voting systems Daicos already has an impressive list of accolades after 4 seasons:

-AFL Best Young Player (2023)
-Collingwood B&F in non-finals team (2024)
-AFL Coaches Association Award (2024)

Winning a BnF or Coaches Association Award/Brownlow in a finals/top 4/grand final team are obvious things to tick off next. Hird, Buckley, Voss, Ablett Junior, Judd, Martin, Dangerfield and co. achieved this.

Obviously Norm Smith and Finals MVP Awards in premiership teams would be a big trump card too.

So far Daicos' best game-by-game accolades came when few other teammates fired a shot in 2024 (not much vote stealing).

You could accuse Ablett of the same at Gold Coast but he did already have multiple Coaches Association Awards + BnFs in grand final and premiership teams at Geelong. Plus bottom 2 teams (2011-2012) get so few votes collectively they almost never produce Brownlow/Coaches Association winners. Only in 2013 and 2014 until his injury were they competitive enough to give him a chance.

If not for a late season injury in 2023, Daicos would have had at least the Brownlow and Coaches Award, and maybe the Players MVP, in a premiership year.

As it was, he was the best player in the competition across 2023, when considering both home and away and finals.

And good to see the Players MVP doesn't really count now that Daicos has ticked that off, when we have been told for the last few years that Bont is the best in the game - just ask his peers!

He has been a big, big part of it.

You think we finish top 4 without him in 2022?

You think we win the flag without him in 2023?

You think we finish top 4 without him in 2025?

I don't.
Probably not. Nobody is saying he isn’t good. He is an elite player. The real test for him comes when has to be the no.1 midfielder and shoulders the burden like others mentioned. You’re understating how important Sidebottom and Pendlebury have been. As well as Crisp.

What are the reasons he didn’t win your B&F? Seriously? Clearly he was not rated more so than Cameron. I’ll judge him after 2-3 more years when he has been the no.1 midfielder at Collingwood.

FMD.

If Daicos hasn't been Collingwood's #1 midfielder since halfway through his second season, who has?

Oh boy.

Players MVP is valuable. The clue is in the name.

My post instead praised Daicos' list of accolades in the game-by-game voting formats. For some reason this has made you upset again. It was a complimentary point that also showed what things Daicos may look to build with in the future.

A BnF/Coaches Association double in a premiership year is an incredible boon and something I'd like to see Daicos achieve.

Even a Brownlow in a finalist team like Cripps or Rowell would be a bloody good effort. If not Brownlow, then a BnF also works nicely.

The disingenuous one is at it again.

Ifs, buts, and maybes don't cut it .
If Curnow wasn't injured, he'd be a 4 time Coleman medalist....

Can I ask why you’ve posted over 1000 times on this thread? I mean, why are you so staunchly defending him? Not many people don’t rate him. He is an absolute gun, but the level you’re going to is, hmmm, weird.
Um, I started the thread, and Daicos is a Collingwood player.

Seeing as you brought up post counts, why have you, as a Melbourne supporter, felt the need to post nearly 200 times in this thread?

Weird.

Well if you wanted it isolated to Collingwood opinion then put it on the club board.

You want people replying? Or you want people replying with an opinion that reflects yours?

Yeah...

Media
Umpires
Coaches
Players

Suggest the few nuff nuffs on BigFooty that keep potting him are in the minority.

He will continue to fry your brains over the next decade.
How has he fried my brain 😂😂 back to back flags, our young superstar with back to back norm smiths and little Nicki’s pathetic effort in the final played it’s part in it all happening. Everyone is over hearing about him, he is a gun no question. But his staging, clapping in first year players faces for bullshit 50’s, his vanishing act, his dad carrying on like a moron, his coaches pathetic little swipes about him and Collingwood supporters insane over rating of him will always ensure he is not liked let alone loved as some real champions before and in the future will be and have been.

Take out his support and he’ll really struggle. You’re underestimating your senior players so much.
LOLOL.

One minute we're being told Collingwood are a one man band and would be screwed without Daicos, and the next minute we're told he's got all this amazing support?

The last few years he's had 30+ year olds in Pendles, Sidey and Crisp, with cameo appearances from Mitchell and De Goey.

Compare that with Bont, for example, who has Libba, Richards, Macrae, etc.

And guess which team has performed better?
