Ziebell and Garner cost us the game (ignoring the shit coaching).

Absolutely terrible with ball in hand.

Should have won by 5 goals +, Dogs were terrible.

Seems you're just looking for validation of your own viewpoints, which perhaps isn't everyone's idea of a message board. However, many do seem to think that's what a message board is about.

If you had read my post with a level of comprehension you would have come across this in the first line "It isn't that I only want to hear good stuff about the club".

I don't have a problem with diversity of thought (although some people do stretch the definition of "supperter"), it is more that a lot of people here post rubbish in a repeat fashion and I think there should be a shift in burden from readers managing their ignore lists to making people post quality content.

I am not suggesting this be site wide, just have a specific thread or two for it. Tiered system to encourage better quality as it may be.

So instead of engaging in meaningful, critical debate, you just want some sort of echo chamber thread where everybody waxes lyrical over Scott and the club direction and any dissenting opinion is immediately censored?

I admit that there were some garbage posts, from myself included, in the emotional aftermath of a match that was particularly heated, but I put that down to people expressing their passion and despair over the result without the use of a filter. I agree, however, that some of those posts are in bad taste if they're made in the proceeding days.

There are many people who have posted excellently, with compelling arguments, about their concerns over the direction of the club and the list in the medium and long term under Brad. It seems though that lately around here there has been an increase in the amount of people critcising these people for having these perfectly valid opinions. Just because people hold these opinions it doesn't mean that they are embarrassing or not adding to the quality of the debate.

I don't think I'm saying that at all. Criticism is fine, but it should be proportional and balanced. I really enjoy reading compelling arguments about the direction of the club. I do not enjoy reading single sentence posts about how shit player X over long periods of time from the same posters. The burden should be on them not to post shit, not on me to put them on ignore.

The toxic atmosphere in here especially after a loss also drives away the people who were previously great contributors. I missed the first game of last season because I was travelling in a jungle area with no phone reception. Decided to read through the game thread when I got internet without first looking at the scores. I was convinced we were ten goals down by the comments, only to find that suddenly we were in front and had won :S

Delusion at AFL house continues with the AFL claiming that the ruck free was the correct decision...before they said visual cues were the method of communicating but now the goal posts have changed again with audio cues...
Seems the only time they admit a mistake is when north gets a 50/50. I can hardly recall any time they admit an error when it costs north.

But even if they have allowed an "audio" nomination as they say happened last night, then the first free is against bontempelli for competing in the ruck. The only free that could have been payed was a free to Goldie.

Doesn't suit their narrative. Looks to me that Dunkley has nominated then Bobtempelli is infringing the ruck contest first. But some ****wit at headquarters doesn't want to admit that it was a **** up of a **** up of a rule.

Anyone should be able to contest the ruck, but if you have 2 from the same team contest it should be a free against...

Is it that hard?

That's fine but given they also pay frees for blocking they've backed themselves into a corner. How do you know if a ruckman is getting blocked if you don't know who the ruckman is?

Hey lads and ladies.

As a newly International member, unfortunately I didn't get to watch the game live. Just finished watching over 8 Bud Lites and thought I'd share my thoughts.

Recon the only reason we lost was the quality of disposal when on a 'fast break'. Both teams fumbled the shit out of it all day. Both teams had a pretty crap run with the umps. Both teams didn't fire up forward. BUT, when the bulldogs were transitioning on a fast break, their disposal was much better than ours. Meaning almost every time there was 4-5 disposals in a row, they scored more often then we did.

I thought the backs played well bar MacMillan. JMac's one of my favourites but recon he's been off the boil so far this year. He's panicking under pressure, not taking as many interception marks and become the tackle turnstile from 3 years ago. Loogie, Scooter, Taz were great. Fishy & Marley are playing really great footy, for their limited abilities. Really needing Wrighty back soon though, as a second Jmac style player is really missed atm.

Mids were OK. Cunners killed it, JZ was better than most are saying. Spitta... man, don't know what to say. Kinda feel sorry for him. He's got no confidence in his body, playing out of position, and kinda passed the new style of footy. Thought Higgo was a little down on his best today. Thought LMac when he was on the wing seemed dangerous... at least he has a defensive side.

I wouldn't mind seeing Spitta & Gibbo managed out of the team. Cycling through the kids game by game. Don't think you can drop both of them... just one of them each week.

Thought Goldie was OK, but not BOG like DT would have him. Recon Pruese wasn't great - probably give him a rest for Perth & give Maj a run. For playing two rucks, to only win the hitouts 46:39, and only win 6 more clearances is a little concerning.

Forwards were so-so. Browny, despite 4 goals, didn't have a huge impact. Thought Simpkin & Turner were good but not great... so much potential though. Simpkin will be my fav player in two years time, but Turner needs to get more of the ball as he's not the silky player.

Garner was a standout for me. I know he only went at 50% DE, but hey, so did our captain. For a forward flanker, Garner showed an awful lot. Really hope his body stays OK, cos in 4-5 weeks he's going to be a star.

As for LT, man, woeful. I know that there's 5 or so LT diehards on the board here that don't like to hear anything neg about LT, but even you blokes must be sweating at the moment. He's really struggling, is our LT.

For next week, recon we give big Hybrid the week off and Maj another chance. Play Golidie back as full time ruck (which he deserved after this week) and Maj as a full time forward (essentially replacing Waite). If Wood is 100%, I think Lindsay should miss. That'd be Turner Brown Simpkin Wood Maj Garner.

If we're fair dinkum about playing the kids, we should look to getting Durdin & Clarke into the team too. Cycle Thompson, Hansen, Spitta & Gibbo through the kids and get some games into them.

Overall, a super entertaining second half of footy. To all the negative nancies - most of us never expected to be top 4 or top 8 this year. It's just exciting seeing so much new potential - and getting the chance to see the Garners, the Simpkins, the Dumonts, the Mulletts, the Preuss' and the Turners have a real crack!

How are all players within the ruck area supposed to know who the nominated ruckmen are?, specially when each player is supposed to be watching the ball or immediate opponent.....maybe they need to learn to constantly turn circles!....also what's to stop a player from another far-off part of the ground from nominating? or is there a time-frame in which the ball MUST be thrown in?

Was the umpire watching the ruck contest? if he was watching the contest he would have seen 'The Bont' was also rucking, who in turn should have been penalised for being 'Third man up'! specially when the umpire stated that he already knew who the nominated ruck men were,

Th AFL might claim that ruck decision was correct, but ffs this is supposedly a professional sport. If the players from both sides, coaches, supporters, commentators and media don't know what going on you've clearly got a pretty significant problem.

I don't understand why the afl refuse to come out and say the umpire got it wrong. It socks but I can live with a human error. But defending wrong or iffy decisions really is off putting and unfair on the footy loving public.

He was watching. He couldn't miss Bontempellis arm in the air. It was directly in front of him.

That's what makes it farcical.
Should of been a free to us after two Footscray dick wads nominated

-The AFL's decision in relation to something that is clearly and obviously a wrong umpire decision now really highlights how much we can believe and rely upon from the AFL in relation to any future decision making across the board.

Parallels with Government, unable to see the obvious or logic, or make the RIGHT decisions.

The AFL has now made this decision a double-wrong, in so doing lost credibility.

Moral: Do not trust the AFL, regardless of the obvious or how much something may be a No Brainer.

One thing you can trust them or bet on what they are likely to do.....the illogical.

Yet another "we completely screwed that one up" loss.....sigh....... A feature of soccer is very often the better, more dominant team losing a match because of poor finishing, 50/50 decisions not going your way, hitting the post numerous times, missing a penalty, bad refereeing, goalkeeping howler, a horror backpass.....and then watching your opponent score from a dodgy offside call. In footy generally 99% of the time the better team on the day wins. What frustrates the hell out of me is that we have made an art form of being the better team on the day and losing over the past 4-5 years. So many times the players have busted a gut to get a 25-40 point lead only to then watch them in horror cough it up. It's definitely become a mental issue now. Teams know that we are gettable. Look, I like the way how we are trying to play a more fast, aggressive and attacking game and that it takes time for 5-6 new players to gel into the team however the team must start to get rewards for its effort. We really should be 2-2 at the minute.
Watching our boys slump to the ground at the final siren brought a tear to my eye last night, it truly hurt them, it wasn't a routine loss, it meant a lot to them. As a fan who has been going week in, week out for 35 years that is all I want to see from my players 100% effort and commitment. We'll be right, it'll turn, luck will go our way eventually.

Can't go on too much about the skill errors, everyone has good days and bad days. Can't question our effort, a couple of lucky bounces or more accurate kicking and we would have buried them.

Gibbo was strong in the contest, showed a bit of leadership out there.
Thommo was aggressive in the right way.
Backs played pretty well as a unit
Love watching Preussy lay a tackle, hope he hits a few more in the coming year.

A few things that we do have control over:

Atley - Fkin run! See the bulldogs half backs get on their bikes and get it into their fifty as quick as they could. Back-ward handpassing was infuriating, especially when he has speed.

Centre Clearances - Kingy has it spot on (hate to say that) we just plod around the centre and have no coverage for the quick break. Rotate Turner, Simpkin and LT on the back of the square at centre bounces. They are quick, agile and tough and can stick a tackle. And if it spills forward they all think quick and lose their opponent in the traffic.

Have you actually not noticed we've been shot gunning guys like Thomas and Hrovat off the back of the square all year or did I miss the joke?

If you had read my post with a level of comprehension you would have come across this in the first line "It isn't that I only want to hear good stuff about the club".

And yet I never stated that you did.
What I did say was that it seems you're after validation because when others don't give you that you want to control what they post. I'm not justifying abusive posts directed at individual posters BTW which is a separate issue.

I do agree about some who throw in the towel early in the game only for the team to end up winning. However, this is no different from being at an actual game.

In light of that news, I'm expecting 10 campaigners to put their hand up for ruck in rest of games this weekend, while one quietly tells the ump he's the ruckman. Thus guaranteeing a free kick for their team. Farcical.

We should do exactly that next week, seeing how the only way stuff gets negative attention is if we do it.

Its just that we keep hearing the same boring monotonal whinge over and over again. Well reading it anyway.

Saintly for example .. its gone beyond a joke ... everything is shit coaching. If we'd beaten the reigning premiers yesterday he'd still be whinging about the shit coaching. Even tho, by definition, beating the premiers is something that requires at the very least "better than shit" coaching. Saintly isn't an idiot, he has often got insightful intelligent things to say about the game, but he never bothers any more because all he wants to say is how shit the coach is.

I've only been at this website less than 2 years. During that time for the first year or so we won 24 out of 30 matches including losing a preliminary final where we were basically robbed and on a level playing field would have won.* People were still whinging about the shit coach during that run. This time last year we were in the middle of it. He was still a shit coach.

During that time people put up a series of things that Scott needed to do to show he was capable of adapting and taking the team forward. Playing young players - done, developing youth - KT, TG and BBB have all developed into very good players despite BBB's limitations and the other two having bad runs with injury, not losing the first round of the year (gee that year worked out well). Adapting during games. Changing things up to try and win (remember Taz on the forward line on the weekend? Just what people wanted and it might have cost us the game.)

But nooo that's not good enough.

*Shit skills also cost us that day but the umpires cost us too and we would have won despite the shit skills. We also could have won despite the umpires if our skills were better. These two things are not mutually exclusive and this year we finally have a skills coach. Not that it seems to be helping but given the individual expected to be playing this time last year he could probably be given some consideration. So Scott deserves criticism for skills being shit and apparantly not having a dedicated skills coach for years but he has adjusted, adapted and changed that situation.
