Can someone please explain to me Betfair, more so the ins and outs of laying a horse. I have a futures multi going and now only need Cascadian to win the Northerly to get up. When laying it, the liability is how much money I am willing to place correct? And the stake section is how much profit I will get back if the horse doesn’t win? Example, I’ve got $250 in the liability section, with $65.79 in the stake section. That $65.79 is profit on top of my $250 bet yes? Not just $65.79 returned (effectively a loss)??

odds = the odds you've given them $3.65

Stake = the money you win if this horse loses, Eg $50

Liability = the money you lose if this horses wins Eg $132.50


You're basically being the bookie and giving someone 3.65 odds on that horse

Also there are like 5-10% commission fees depending on the market

You'll also notice very little liquidity until just before the race in most cases so that's the best time to lay if you can, unless it's a big event like the World Cup.
