Oh the obstruction call against Manly, didn’t they bring in the discretionary aspect of the rule for the bunker about committing to a running player and not being in play?

Hard to see how it didn’t apply there, Gus banging on about how he wasn’t chasing was annoying but he was absolutely right

Those calls are utterly disgraceful. We can thank one man for this and it’s Gus’ mate up in the commentary box, Paul Gallen.

As hard as he could play at times, he made an art form out of not bothering to try and get to an opponent when he knew there was anyone even close to playing providing an obstruction and they blew it every time and no matter how many times they amend the rule the application of it never changes.

Another person who’s really good at it is Luke Brooks. He saved a few tries against WT by that method.

At the risk of defending the indefensible the sport needs an obstruction rule, we dont want blockers in the defensive line leading to tries so its always going to be a rule that either winds up black and white (as it is) and at the very least you cant argue for one over another, or you make it an interpretation rule which leads to inconsistency.

I dont know which is better (i lean toward interpretation so that ones like yesterday can be considered more than just "was he in the line").

I swear they added in the defensive decision thing for this year so that they could have some consideration around bloke who were never tackling or never really in the play not being able to milk those obstruction calls, hence the question.

Yesterdays was a shocker.
