OK, I just spent too much time working this out.

Vic.......51.4%...(321/625)...8.2 squads
SA........18.4%...(115/625)...3 squads
WA........16.2%...(101/625)...2.6 squads
NSW/ACT...4.5%....(28/625)....0.8 squads
QLD.......3.5%....(22/625)....0.6 squads
TAS.......3.2%....(20/625)....0.5 squads
NT........2.8%....(17/625)....0.4 squads
Ireland...0.2%....(1/625).....0.0 squads

So SA & WA are the only states pulling their weight i.e providing more players to the pool than they take out with Tas & NT stumping up the overall numbers.

Surprised Q has less listed players then NSW.

The numbers are a bit forced IMO, as we have just seen a huge increase in NSW boys on the back of GWS's academy, we would also see increased numbers from WA if 4 teams were in WA and they each had their own academy.

The fact is Victoria TAC cup is far and away better run than any other state in terms of structure, funding and coaching, the players are just as good in other states.

Are you suggesting the AFL better fund junior footy in Vic than elsewhere?

I am suggesting the TAC cup which some people would not even say is junior football is well funded, well coached and resourced, all we have to do is compare what a well funded, well coached and resourced GWS academy has been able to do in a couple of years that no one was able to do for about 15 and that is ready players from its area to be drafted.

New South Wales has a far higher population and also a portion of it is a traditional Australian football area.

I would agree with you post, however the well populated areas of QLD do really well in producing AFL players, this is reflected in 5 of the 10 NEAFL teams being located in Brisbane/GC and only 3 being from Sydney ( 1 canberra, 1 NT).

Lol half the players are from vic and people want interstate Grand Finals
So you're suggesting that half the Grand Finals should be played out of Victoria? Seems fair to me, I'm on board.

It's still the vfl until the other states begin to make more proportional contributions. The players also reflect the fanbase, a Grand Final in a state like NSW (with no afl base) would be robbery

Proportionally though, NSW would deserve a GF more than the zero times they're scheduled to have it at the moment, no? They contribute more than a zero percent proportion.

Can anyone update this list? Would be interesting to see if the percentages have changed especially in NSW and Queensland.

This is 2018 so relatively recent
