I loved this article. Dangerfield makes a statement that turns the table on the media personalities who regularly discuss the futures of footballers, possibly influencing public perception of these players.

IT’S already that time of year where every day there seems to be a new story or whisper about a potential trade.

The talk is everywhere — he should go there, he’s not needed here, he would do well in this side, he’s not pulling his weight or a change of position could turn around the team’s fortunes.

It’s not list managers saying all this, it’s the media, whether that be the written word or on radio or featuring on the plethora of TV shows such asAFL 360, The Footy Show, Talking Footy and Footy Classified.

The media is an industry just like football. It’s highly competitive and a tough road where there is pressure to produce results. You need listeners, you need subscribers, you need an audience and if you’re not getting that then maybe it’s time to get someone who can. Here are some possible trade scenarios for the football media industry.

A few examples of the trades he suggests:

HAMISH McLACHLAN: Replaced on Game Day by Gillon McLachlan — he’s better, he’s older, he’s taller, has a deeper voice and, after speaking to his mum, he’s apparently the favourite child. Hamish is keen to pay the players what they want so will be the perfect man to be in charge of the AFL (Should be easy to deal with, Marshy!)

BRUCE McAVANEY:Hard to replace Bruce but we’re going with Cyril Rioli’s mum, because nobody loves Cyril more.

BRIAN TAYLOR: A straight swap for Mick Turner, Geelong’s Team of the Century wingman. We’re sending Brian to the Geelong Falcons football factory because he talks so much about it.
