Hey guys, I'm reading the book "The Draft" at the moment and I'm interested to know how Patrick Veszpremi is coming along, the book mentions he has or had some issues with weight and discipline in his junior footy. The book also mentioned that he mightn't have the body to be a midfielder, what position are the swans developing him in?

Thanks :)

Veszpremi showed a lot of promise late in the 2008 season as a small forward but in 2009 he spent most of the season injured and when he finally got into the team he seemed to lack fitness.

Veszpremi has mostly played as a small forward but you are right that he has the potential to play in the midfield. However in saying that a remember reading a article a few months back that Roos is considering moving Veszpremi into defence as apparently with Mattner, Shaw, Malceski and Kennelly we don't have enough half backs.

This isn't helpful for you at all but in 2010 we could see Veszpremi in the forward line, midfield or defence. Your guess is as good as ours.

I read this book

very very good.

I hope he gets it together.

He reminds me of Nick Davis. So much ability, but does he have the fitness / running capcity.

Nick could have been so much more, as had a heap of natural ability like Veszpremi. I hope he does, because Vespremi could be a very good player.

Lots of parallels with Nicky D, though I think Veszpremi is significantly stronger overhead than Davis and has a more explosive burst of speed. On the other hand, I don't think his kicking for goal will ever be quite as exquisite as Davis' was.

I thought Vesz was a dead eye for goal in the year he was drafted? Think I was hoping we got him with our pick 20 which eventually went as part of Judd deal.....

I think he is a pretty good shot for goal, though he's missed a few relatively easy ones in his fledging senior AFL career thus far.

But Davis was truly a fantastic shot for goal, especially in difficult conditions or from tight angles. Many players you watch line up for tricky set shots (eg with difficult windy conditins) and it is obvious they don't know where they are trying to kick the ball. But Davis always worked out the exact trajectory he wanted to send the ball on. Even when he didn't execute it properly, he always knew what he was trying to do.
