The Tasmanian Greens have chosen winemaker, academic and former investment banker Peter Whish-Wilson to replace Bob Brown in the Senate.

Whish-Wilson runs the Three Wishes Vineyard outside Launceston and previously worked for investment banks Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank. Whish-Wilson, who has been a high-profile campaigner against the Gunns pulp mill near Launceston, also lectures in corporate finance at the University of Tasmania.

Like Queensland Premier Campbell Newman and Tasmanian MP Andrew Wilkie, he attended the Royal Military College at Duntroon.

Clearly a communist who will attempt to destroy the economy and have us live in green huts.

A socialist who produces wine.

What's the bet the clown makes chardonnay!

Prove he's a socialist.

He's even been described in the article used as a moderate.

Don't think too many socialists have ever worked in investment banking firms have they?

Typical extreme right-wing character assassination going on in this and QSaint's post.

Re: Bob Brown resigns as Greens Leader - Milne elected leader

An economist and somebody who has worked in finance?

A Senator for the Greens?

Well no wonder this is getting no response on bigfooty.

He's got more economic and financial education and experience than the treasurer or shadow treasurer. But, obviously, he's just a tree-hugging, chardonnay-sipping/making socialist

Funny type of appointment. From what I hear, the guys got creditibility (not because of being a merchant banker - honestly - they are as trust worthy as lawyers who worked for Slater and Gordon). Not sure how the dynamic will go with Milne (as a hard liner and quite frankly a bitter old bint who is opposed to any progress) and SNY (who will make it her aim to be leader of the Greens at the earliest possible opportunity). Economic rationalists or any rationalists for that matter don't last long in the Greens party (well in Tassie anyways).

Hehe, funny thread.

Just so I'm up to date, merchant bankers are someone to be admired now? Or just this particular dude?

Well, IMO Malcolm Turnbull is the only half-decent individual in parliament for the coalition, so that surprisingly makes two of them. Probably only because neither of them are merchant bankers any longer ;)
