YOU LITTLE RIPPER.

It's Official - Jack Martin is Carlton bound, and there nothing opposition Cry Babies can do about it !!!

So Martin has just named his price. Over 3mil for 5 years.

Now tell me blues fans. Is a player worth paying that much for that long worth less than a 6 pick downgrade?

If you get him for free in the PSD yes, that is tidy business by the Baggers. A top ten draft pick is more valuable than salary cap space, and we all know it.

If he performs and doesn't push players to seek better deals, then yes it's a top get.

But if he doesn't perform and say in 3 years you can't meet the cap and players want better deals, then no.

It’s not quite official yet. But Martin just has to get through Gold Coast and Melbourne. Gold Coast could still select him; they will get a good player for a long term. But it is a big cost. For either GC or Carlton. Martin is the biggest winner here (as long as he is selected). Good luck to him.

We got most of our young guns on long term contracts, shouldn't be a problem for us.

That kid is very talented, sure. And he has a lot of unfulfilled potential, but no way known as it stands right now is he worth that kind of money.

That said, IF the blues can extract the best football out of him, this could be an excellent player grab

Only on Bigfooty and amongst all the Carlton haters could it be seen as a smart move by the Suns to refuse to trade Martin.

Come on seriously. How can anyone think it’s smart management to refuse to get something in return for an out of contract player and instead lose him for zilch in the pre season draft?

This is a guy who was playing in the Suns reserves at stages this season and they’re valuing him as a first round pick. Absolutely hilarious.

I believe the only reason they’re behaving this way is because the AFL has given them a ridiculous leg up with picks to supposedly set them on the right path.

It’s hilarious you claim he isn’t worth a first rounder but your happy to pay him 600k....

There absolutely is a difference... If you are contracted you have committed to playing for that club for 'x' period of time. Martin has given his years of service and now has every right to move on to where he wishes to play.

Literally not at all comparable situations.

no he doesn’t, that’s the right of an unrestricted or delisted free agent and he is neither of those things. He has the right to put contract terms on his head and go to the first club that calls out his name. If he doesn’t like it, he has the right to sit out the term of the contract or 12 months, I can’t remember which it is. You’re manufacturing rights that he doesn’t have.

Gold Coast are a pile of s**t and should fold for the benefit of the entire competition.

They've clearly been tanking for years, have been rewarded them with excessive priority picks and concessions... and yet they're still unwilling to trade players who don't want to be there and improve their list.

All this only a year or two after they refused to trade Gary Ablett which was pathetic given the circumstances.

The Suns are garbage.

That said, they should definitely "TAKE A STAND!!" and re-draft Martin because I don't want Melbourne to take him and it would be hilarious if Carlton missed out.
The Gold Coast are a relatively new club in a developing AFL region. Obstacles like this are natural.

If you want to talk about pile of s**t clubs, look no further than the dumpster fire you support. Melbourne are an absolute rabble: 0 flags for 50 years, tanking sagas, miserable culture, constant begging for the AFL to help them.

Well to be fair, pick 9 has a lot more significant value in this year's draft than say pick 15 or 16 .
Pick 9 was earmarked for the Papley trade anyway, so it's a false narrative to suggest that it was always in play for Martin.

If he is so bad, why is your club going to pay him over 600k for 5 years?

Another poster with no idea.

This isn’t free agency compensation we are talking about here.

He’s being offered a contract with massive overs because Carlton has a lot of cap room and are in desperate need of mature players.

By your logic no player offered a substantial contract would ever get traded because the club losing the player would never get a fair deal. The Cats would never have gotten Dangerfield.

He isn’t worth 600k as it stands. It’s a gamble by the club on getting the best out of him, something that the Suns couldn’t do for whatever reason. Maybe he just isn’t that good or maybe development was an issue for the club
