Crows in massive strife - they look tired and they havent even stepped on a plane this year.

I normally dont rub it in but

after some of the comments I have heard from Adelaide supporters this week -

you can suck it!

Port Adelaide FOR LIFE KID!!!

The script couldn't have been written better. To have played so bad in the first quarter and then win by that much just rubs salt into the wound. Go Power!!

I felt that the players stopped worrying about the gameplan and started playing with their heads. We need Hamish to play more games. A great competitor in the packs and knows when and where to run to get the ball. I was particularly impressed with him. Will add to our ball winning and using ability. He can run and kick a long goal as well.

Wow what a Change in our team did our mids look better our pressure was the best I have ever seen....

Most observers during the week didnt really look closely at our team inclusions. All the focus seemed to be on our exclusions (KCornes & Pearce).

A couple of our inclusions (Ebo and Surj) were instrumental in demonstrating the intensity required to win AFL games. I'm glad Shaw made mention of their contribution and onfield leadership

Sure he'd be happy with that right about now too

He made some good changes at quarter time - but it's just the beginning. We were still deplorable early. The move of Trengove into the ruck and Surjan as a defensive forward were inspired.

We have still got to build on this though and when we drop off by just a bit, we look insipid.

Agreed - both of those inclusions had a major impact especially after quarter time. Ebert worked particularly hard. He did some brilliant things in the midfield - needs to be tried there in bursts from now on. He's too talented to waste in a forward pocket.

Im gob-smacked I seriously cant believe what I just saw. Massive game from our big men tonight. Brogan and Trengove got us going, Westhoff played like he was on fire and really pleased with Chaplins composure. The midfield lifted and imposed themselves on the game and we just outworked them and then rubbed their noses in it. We didn't let up.

Pittard was sensational I'm so impressed with this kid, he has a long long future ahead of him.

Rodan was in everything and Boak's work rate was first class and the forward line functioned perfectly. Thats how you break a side with frontal pressure. We pantsed them and I really think we broke their spirit and thats the icing on the cake. I hate those crow bastards.

The boys have set a new standard, lets see it maintained and we will be a happy supporter base.

On a side note I think I have to get my daughters hearing checked as she slept through me screaming and urging every bit of inspiring play and there was plenty of it tonight.

Thats what we can do playing 3 quarters, gee it was good.

GO POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was 2007 play revisited.

That was the worst Crows team i have ever seen in my life, we should have been dead in the water at qtr time....yes was a great comeback and i am as happy as a pig in pooh but seriously they let us in.
Anyway no taking Monday off this week ... Going to be nice in old Adelaide town for you guys :thumbsu:

Spot on 240volt. I stand by my concerns about some of his structures.

Not having a go, just curious what you want Primus to do?

Bring back guys like Pearce, Kornes and Stewart?

Send Ebert to a forward pocket?

Play The Hoff in the ruck?

I agree with 99% of your posts PJ but I am a bit baffled by this one.

I took a look at the Crows board and their supporters deserve the loss. Crazy threads calling for the sacking of the coach, a thread that says Adelaide Oval will never happen and a game day thread that calls us hacks and soft. They got everything that they deserve tonight.

Boy I like Pittard. I dont know why some of you blokes are so hard on him, he's a twig atm, he's played less games than Neil Craigs had sensible press conferences, and I recon he shows real promise. I've seen poise, skill, heart, courage, speed and importantly for this club, a brain. More often than not takes the right option. Sure he stuffs it from time to time, but there's plenty to work with. Great game today Pittard.

And to my buddy the Grew, I thought he was very solid down back. Did ok early and showed poise that tends to be our barometer. When the grew has a good game, we often do too.

Well done Matty, I dont care what anyone says, we got a win, so I'm backing the selection decisions

And the courage and tenacity that our blokes showed, that came from Primus, whatever he said, they felt it and played their @sses off. That was a Port Adelaide win, courage and never say die.

Sorry for the rant but I'm drunk and my god I love this football club. Supported em my whole life, just like my dad and his dad, and I dont wanna see em go anywhere.

What a win. I thought it was gonna be a long night after that first quarter. But wow did we turn things around. Such a great team play and taking chances and getting all the rewards for it. We looked solid, from defence to full forward. The Port Adelaide we saw after the first quarter is the Port Adelaide I know and truly love. More of that please. Well done Primus.

No issues at all with his selections this week, Waspy - as I posted on other threads, they were spot on. He ditched the two players who stop our run by calling for the stationary handball, he dropped Daniel Stewart who had been a spectator and he finally brought in Surjan and Pettigrew, who possibly should have been included last week.

My concerns are with the structures that he is implementing in our style of play.
Firstly: our kick-in routines have struggled all year. Now some of that comes from a lack of run to create options for Pittard to take. But I don't think we've worked hard enough to find ways to break down opposition zones when taking the kickouts. Too rarely do we find two or three consecutive, uncontested marks from a kick-in that move the ball forward.

Secondly: defensive positioning at stoppages. In the first quarter and a half, I watched as players like Broadbent, Stewart and Salopek stood on the wrong side of their opponent and ball-watched to the point of being caught napping when their opponents pushed off them and ran forward to spread from the stoppage. Now alot of that is the responsibility of the player, but it's happening with too many players, too frequently and that makes me concerned that we're not getting instructed properly and not setting up properly at stoppages.

Thirdly: we constantly play along the wings. It might work for a highly skilled team like Collingwood, but we are a long way from being at that skill level. We need to use the corridor more. It is an insult to our forwards, when players like Thomas, Brogan and Surjan took marks or free-kicks in the centre of the ground and ignored options inside our forward 50, preferring to push the ball wide to the wings instead.
Conversely, we do not maintain enough midfielders in the centre corridor to defend the area well. Too often the opposition, if they're prepared to run in waves, waltz through the middle of the ground with our guys not in picture.

Fourthly: Due to the dropping of D. Stewart, we went in undersized in the forward line. I don't think this is a longterm issue for us under Primus, but if we stick to Chad up there with Motlop and Ebert, we'll struggle against most sides. If Stewart's not up to it and Schulz is out injured, then I'd bite the bullet and debut Butcher.

These issues have nothing to do with gold passes or selections, which plagued Choco's last days. I would have expected most Port supporters to be worried about some of these structural issues.

I think the structures are fine, TBH. We are kicking longer to big forward targets like Westhoff and Chad (as well as mobile small targets, like Gray and Motlop). It's not a dissimilar gameplan to Collingwood, although they are much better. We had a midfield today capable of moving the ball quickly with good footskills. Hartlett and Ebert add heaps in this area. The fast movement breaks past any midfield zoning, and more importantly, moves the ball quickly. This is precisely how Collingwood burn the opposition, through fast transition play. Kane will have trouble finding a spot under this gameplan.

The intensisty of the midfield was good after half time, forced tons of Crow turnovers.

Consistent intensity, and the ability to maintain the structures is the key moving forward.

Im prepared to give Primus more time, I understand what you are saying, but I really think it is too early to be judging Primus and the structures he implement, especially considering the personnel issues we have. We need to accept that we played a very ordinary team tonight, but we also need to take the positives out of it - we smashed them for three quarters effectively beating them at their own game - and if our attack on the ball and the man continues like that for the rest of the season we should all be content supporters I reckon!

No issues with anyone saying that our gameplan is simplistic, but having a simplistic gameplan is exactly what Primus needs to do atm.

Firstly he has to instil the basics into the players, then once that is done he will undoubtedly start introducing a more complex plan/structure.
We have sucked at the basics for a very long time and it will not be an easy road for Primus to turn it around.

In the first two games we got to see it/them (team play/basics) for a quarter here and a quarter there. Tonight it was for 2 and 1/2 quarters. No doubt it will fluctuate during this year but the signs are all positive at the moment.
