Reading the article in The Sunday Age today on St.Kilda and Greg Westaway, this quote regarding match-day returns once again grabbed my attention:
"Geelong is another team which has control of its own stadium and can pocket huge returns on relatively small crowds"
Given our deal at Etihad is up in 2014, is there any scope to return our low-drawing games to Princes Park ? Even with the new building it must still hold up to 20K with standing room ?
I assume the real money is made on Corporate boxes which would now be all removed from the ground.
Does anyone know the maths on this ? Obviously, short-term a lot of money would need to be spent to get it back up to the Kardinia Park status but would it be an investment in the future ? Would it work on just 3-4 games a year or would it need 7 games a year ? Would we make better return playing to small crowds at the 'G.
.. or am I just an old fool living in the past ?
