Quigley's 2010 Mock (Not for the hard of reading)

In reading this draft, you have to take into consideration that it is Quigleys opinion only. He states that clearly at the beginning.

For instance, with Tom Lynch, it is his opinion that he rates him at about 18. Not that he thinks 17 other recruiters will also have that opinion. He will clearly go earlier but it doesn,t mean that 1 or 2 recruiters might pass on him as Quigley has.

In saying that, there are certainly some head scratchers here. But it was a good read for us who enjoy reading this stuff.

*Dreams*

Even though you gave us an amazing draft I think it's important that we pick a key forward up.

This is definetley a must read once I finish exams.:thumbsu: However, Gorringe definetley won't be coming to us, Rendell has already stated no ruckmen will be taken.

Really like how you base this on your observations rather than that of others.

Great detail and by far the best draft of those here.

The two I really don't agree with are Heppell and Jacobs. I feel they will be the two who have the greatest impact in season 1 outside of those GC boys. Also Billie Smedts is just such a super talent and everything he do has class written all over it. Don't think he will have much trouble developing and don't think he will be so limited in terms of position.

Really like how you have both Ben Brown and Andrew Phillips so high. While I think they will go lower rather than higher I also share the same optimism as to their upside. But gee you really like your Tasmanians!

Again can't state it enough. Outstanding effort and really look forward to your work again next season. Great read!

I like Knightmare rate Ben Jacobs pretty highly, but it was very interesting to see someone finally agree with me on some of the more controversial calls - I also rate Lamb and Bennell much lower than most, and I rate Gaff immensely highly. He's unfairly criticised a lot on here for no real reason. I also have Gorringe quite low, but seeing Lycett ahead of him here was a really interesting call as well.

I don't quite rate Green at pick 5 but I have him much higher on my list of midfielders than most, I would have him firmly in the top 20. Smith is one I consider to have a huge potential ability range, he could be a top 50 player in the AFL or he could fail to establish himself as a best 22 player. I'm not sure many midfielders in the draft have that elite top 50 potential, so I rate him highly. Also great to see the tide starting to turn on Darling. A lot of people have short memories and seem to have forgotten just how damn good he was last season.

The most interesting part of your rankings IMO was your assessment of the key position players, especially Mitchell and the various ruckmen. Really threw out some different ideas to a lot of the mocks on here. Top work anyway Quigley :thumbsu:

So you've seen him play a bit too then? :) I rate meat and potatoes much higher than flair, especially when the flair is delivered once a game or so.
I do however, agree with you taking him at 4 Quigs, because I think that's what West Coast would do, but it's not what I would necessarily do.

Overall a great read though Quigs.:thumbsu:

Its hard not to see him play living over here ;)

In all honesty I would feel extremely uncomfortable taking Bennell with pick 2. If the Gold Coast had only 1 first round pick and Day and Swallow weren't there, do you really think they would take him? They can afford to take that risk in the position they are in, but I have to agree with you swannies in that he is far too inconsistent for a top 2-3 selection. Especially in the position West Coast are in as well, they have to go for a sure thing, I don't think they could afford to take that risk either. Bennell has an extremely high "bust" percentage in my opinion. He was shown up several times both at the u18 championships and in the WAFL due to his lack of accountability and workrate, and that simply wouldn't be allowed in the AFL.

He has immense talent and can perform absolutely sublime feats on the field, combining some silky ground skills with the ability to take high-flying marks and kick goals from anywhere. But I just feel at such a high draft pick I would want a fair bit more certainty. A very low proportion of draft picks turn into regular AFL players, with the only exception being picks in the top 4 who have a much higher success rate (can provide statistics if requested). I don't think he would be worth pick 2 for any team except the Gold Coast.

Agree with all of that, high bust possibility etc, and with pick 4 being such an important pick for the Eagles I think they could over-rate the x-factor and flair and jump. Thye're normally conservative selectors high in the draft.

I compare him with Isaiah Stevens (not in quality but in style and output) from Swans, can do the absolute miraculous but you only see the input for a part of the game. Because of that I wouldn't take Stevens until late in the draft or rookie, when the bust (if it happens) won't hurt as much.

Wow... what an effort...

If anyone is interested... the word count is 43,392... that is just ridiculous... kudos to you Quigley...

Dear Quigs,

I commend you on your effort and posting and no doubt you may pick a roughie here and there. I just really think this year you've potentially gone way outside of the box and selected players for "shock" value.

It will be interesting to see on draft day, which recruiters think the same way as yourself. The main benefit of being a BF recruiter is your day job does not depend on your results, hence you have the ability to reach a little more with certain players.

That was the most left field phantom I've read, but very enjoyable.

To answer your rhetorical question though, I'd go Tape over Litherland, not by a great margin, but enough. We could probably use a second key defender out of this draft too. If Pitt falls to 37 I will fall off my chair.

Fabulous effort Quigs old chap.

You are one of the few who have put Angus Litherland in their top 25. I rate him very highly and hope he lasts to the Eagles two picks at 26 or 28. And if they don't grab him I will spew blood.

By the way you have given Brisbane pick 28 when I think it belongs to West Coast. I will soon be put in my place if I am wrong.

West Coast have 26 (priority pick), and 29 (second round pick). Brisbane received pick 28 from GC in the Brennan deal (GC's second rounder). 27 belong to North as their compensation pick.

Pick 26 - West Coast (priority pick)
Pick 27 - North Melbourne (compensation pick)
Pick 28 - Brisbane (GC's second round pick, first pick in second round)
Pick 29 - West Coast (second pick in second round)

You have put so much time into this so hats of to you...That said you picks from Hawthorn are way off the mark. Hawks don't need KP and certainly don't need wildcard players. Our biggest deficiency is wingman/classy mids and ready made forwards.
